Well I am now the proud owner of a green 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, nice smooth handling, all the power I'd really ever care for, and a FREAKING SWEET AFTERMARKET SOUND SYSTEM. The cruise is shot, but Im getting that fixed. My dad shelled out $3800 for it, and I love it so much. :)

I HAVE A CAR!!!!

Well why don't you get your ass out of in front of the computer, and get down and mail me some money for a new car then?

Or maybe you're one of those leeches who stand in the wellfare line perhaps?

EDIT: Removed harshness.

Wow, that was AFTER the harshness?  [-(

Anyway, I'm glad you have wheels. If Texas is anything like Nebraska or Iowa, being without a car sucks massively.

Also: living on your own is overrated. Get turbo goods instead!

Congrats on the new car dude  :) Now you can run people and animals down, haha.

You said you spent $3800 on this geezer mobile. $3800 will buy a fine car. Money isn't the problem. For example on Craig's list in my area right now there is a Corrado G60 for $3000, a '95 Civic for $2100, a Volvo 850 for $4000, a 318i for $2900 (very nice deal!), and a VR6 GTI for, hey, what do you know, $3800.

Well, dick, my dad never bought me a car, I'll tell you that. Also I've known some extremely hard working people who have also collected public assistance in tough times. Luckily I've never needed to do so myself.

I'll say, with the AARP car and hatred of poor people, you are well on your way to some day being a rich white asshole. Make sure you pick up a pair of those hella dark shades that fit over you glasses, and a membership to the John Birch Society on one of your many many trips to the gas station.

Shit, it must cost $55 to fill that tank...and something 20MPG, maybe. Weee!

That doesn't apply to my shithole of a town, and I can't go that far to do Craigslist, so STFU until you've lived my life. You've probably had everything handed to you.

Kitsune rollin' in a panther - how fitting.  I'd rather have a P71, but they've all been rode hard and put away wet.  Even better would be a Marauder, but that would've cost ya many, many more pennies.  Congrats on the new ride, now don't kill yourself taking 'er drifting.

Word, though the platform has actually been around since '79 (it's older than Kitsune!).  It's amazing that they can keep cranking out cars on the same basic skeleton for thirty years, albeit with multiple upgrades and sheet metal changes.

I'm not a car person, as long as it goes I don't really care about it.

But I do have to agree with Zeta that a Mercury is an old person's car.  Sorry, Kitsune-chan.

guyjin

old people cars are better, because they've been treated better.

Ceti Alpha

Quoteold people cars are better, because they've been treated better.
Exactly. If you're buying a car for under $5000.00 you really want to make sure it's in good shape. Older people generally drive those cars, but that just means it's in better shape and less money you'll have to put into her.

I'm rather puzzled as to why you seem to think this. Well, first you thought I was on wellfare, now you think I'm Richie Rich.

BTW, my first car was an '82 Escort with a lot of Mercury Lynx trim and body parts on it. It was yellow with one black door. I will always remember it for the trip to Chicago my friends and I made in it, and the fact that if you were driving it after 2:00 am you were almost guaranteed to be pulled over by cops because...well, you just look like a drunk rolling something like that.

Heh, not really. Sure they are less rusty because they don't get driven in the snow (or hardly at all in some cases), and they are usually fully insured so the dents from weekly backing into shit get repaired instead of just leaving it that way, but old people are usually %100 certain that whenever you try to sell them anything you are trying to screw them, so they only change their oil once a year and put a piece of tape over the check engine light when it comes on so it doesn't bug them.

I'm actually a mechanic by day, and I'll tell you I've seen some horrible abuse done to cars by old people. Brake rotors as thin as a razor because they drive around with their feet on both pedals. Never change the automatic transmission oil. Ever. Just wait until the trans totally fries rather than do proper maintenance.

the REAL reason he got a Marquis, the extra large rear seat area.
