I don't recognize the songs, they sound new, though, I'm not as familiar with Mega Man's 4-6, only beat them once.

Quote from: CrackTiger on 07/07/2008, 04:51 AMHere's some footage of the game in action with NES music. I'm not familar enough with all the 8-bit games to say whether or not the music is new, but it does look fairly certain now that the game is going to be fully NES-like without any kind of noticible upgrades.
what'chu talkin' 'bout, willis?  i instantly notice two upgrades even in that super tiny video snippet:
1) no sprite flicker
2) that x-axis 3d rotation as the bomber rode that moving red and blue pill platform-y thing.

and, i'm sure there will be way more to come :)

1) NES games don't flicker constantly, especially not in screens with 0 - 2 enemies. :P

2) Thats like 4 - 8 frames of animation (just like Megaman's end of stage warp). If they programmed it to have the Wii render it instead, it would be much more work and probably wouldn't line up as well.

Yeah I was suprised to see that they used premade frames for that rotation. Judging from the screenshots of it I saw before the video, I thought for sure that was going to be done with the hardware.

I am not seeing ANY rotation ANYWHERE in the clip.  Perhaps you guys are confusing the little animation he does when he is on the Dr Mario pill?  That's definitely not rotation, more like "swinging" and there is no hardware with built-in "swinging".

Keranu

But there is built-in scailing and flipping :) .

Capcom has changed their mind again and MM9 is back on 360/PS3.

Here's the first official trailer-

http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14260822/mega-man-9/videos/mm9multidebu.html

Although there are some nice touches here and there, its still nothing an NES couldn't do... except that quick dragon clip looks like flicker has likely been eliminated.

It also looks like Capcom has brought back the technology used in the Arcade version of Ghouls 'N Ghosts to enable Megaman's feet to walk behind the grass.

The swinging technology would still require the extra frame of Megaman's back as he comes around the other side.

I like the retro theme of the trailer with the pixelated gradients that accompany the silhouettes. It looks like Capcom actually cares about "hardcore" game players.

I'm just happy it takes place in the year 20XX.  All the best games happen during that year.

I believe Godzilla on NES took place in 20XX (and I love that game). Strangely enough, 19XX featured technology unavailable in the 1900's! Same goes for 1944 and probably to a lesser extent the other 1940's games.

don't be silly. 19XX is clearly the year before 20XX.

I'm so excited about Megaman 9! I can't wait for it to come out! And I think it's cool that they went back to 8-bit. That's awesome. You don't need modern day graphics to make a game good. This is gonna be one of the best games to ever hit The Wii, and probably one of the best games in years. This guy made a great point about it most likely to be better than today's games in this video:

here's an interview with someone who's not actually one of the creators of the new game, but he is really close to the project (producer), so the info is pretty pertinent and interesting to read:

capcom only had the wiiware version playable at the show, but showed video of the ps3 and 360 versions there, too.

As much as I hate Mega Man, I almost feel compelled to buy it when it comes out. Might be useful for my Crapcom article.

Mega Man 9 will have flicker, slowdown and any other NES quirks available to turn on or off.

I think it's very cool that not only are they actually putting it in, but they give you the option.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3752/he_is_8bit_capcoms_hironobu_.php

It also turns out that the game had more complex graphics at one point, but Inafune made them simplify them.

I think adding in glitches is a pretty interesting, but dumb move; however it's negligible considering it's optional. Also, I wonder how long Mega Man 9 is going to be, especially since the interview revealed it would be too big for the NES? I'm pretty excited for this game, though at the same time, cautiously optimistic; however, I feel it will be at least the best Mega Man since the third installment.

PCEngineHell

It looks like it'll be pretty cool, but sucks its just going to be  a download only.

Joe Redifer

Yeah.  I would kill for the "Ultrasound Graphics Synthesis" box... especially on a real NES cart.  Oh well.  I hope someone makes more new "retro" games in the vein of the SMS, TG-16 and even Genesis.  That would rock.

CrackTiger

I expect this game to be recreated by fans in a Famicom rom within a few years. Hopefully one of those rom on a cart guys can piece together the hardware to make it work within a regular NES cart.

But once you beat one robot, then beat another, it gets easier and easier
