I don't know why I'm thinking about Y2K, but I am.  Do you remember how the world was supposed to end at the beginning of the year 2000 because computers running ancient code would flip back to the year 00 and they'd all crash?  Utilities were to be lost, famine was to occur and people would roam the streets in packs hunting and killing people.  You were supposed to buy lots of non-perishable food and water, guns and board up your house.

I was watching TV when the stupid New York ball dropped in Times Square at the end of 1999.  Right as it hit the bottom, right at 12:00:00, the screen went to static, but only for a second.  It was the local TV station playing the greatest prank ever on Y2K believers.  It was awesome and I started out the new millenium with a big laugh.

So did YOU fall into the Y2K hype?  Did you know anyone who did?  Any plans for the end of 2012?

Arkhan Asylum

I sure as fuck didn't.  At our new years party, I was ELEVEN.  playing playstation and eating pizza.

Everyone (old people) were ranting about how this is the end and shit, and i'm like "you know, in Japan, its already the year 2000, Its been that way since you woke up today. You're all idiots".

then there was that story about the dude that built a bunker full of food/gas/stuff, and a brushfire blew it all the fuck up and wiped him clean.  He had NOTHING afterwards, and Y2K was all a huge joke.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

I just got my super soaker with pump action!  Thank goodness I hoarded all of the bottled water before Y2K!  I can never be defeated!

I was working at a company switching over old Unix computers for Y2K.

When midnight hit and nothing happened, my boss got on the intercom and said:

"Well, shit. The world is safe. You can all go home now."

I knew tons of morons who fell for the hype and marketing bullshit. Also, if you want a few good Y2K laughs, go here. I had been a computer programmer for many years prior and knew about the issues and how obsolete they were...and also that the vast majority of them had been fixed WELL in advance in preparation...when the stories of these fixes escapes into the public, media companies (in usual media company fashion), twisted everything around for their own gains. It worked too...

It was a real concern, but it was taken care of years before Dec 1999, and I think anyone with a non-paranoid outlook on life understood this.

For those that didn't, I worked at a store that sold computer keyboards that said, "Y2K compliant" on them. There were quite a few things marketed that way that were even stupider, but I can't remember them for some reason.

I still remember the y2k compliant mousepads...

Personally, I thought it was great anticipating a computer-based Apocalypse.

Best way for a millennium to end, IMHO.

 In that vein, esteban, I was amazed at my neighbor who bunkered-up, spending $2700 on portable generators and water/canned goods/beer for his cold-war era bunker.

I asked him If I could have his Chevelle if the world ended.

I don't recall being really concerned about Y2K.  I figured someone would fix the problem, & what do you know, they did!
