Never seen one of these before.  According to the seller these were raffled off to people who bought PCE Gradius II.

I am too lazy to research this, but the box is clearly official, labeled Not for Sale, and is from 1992, so I'd say the story is probably accurate.

Neat!
But that's actually a resin cast model kit, not die-cast metal.  Which makes me want it even more...

Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

If you say so.

Anyway, I found a couple more pics of the kit that I saved from an auction years ago

My guess is that it might be a polystyrene plastic model kit, since I build and paint both resin garage kits, plastic model kits and R/C car kits.

Yeah, "poly" kits were basically made of Bondo. They were sorta popular in the 80s GK scene but mostly I associate poly kits with really really bad bootlegs. I think that stuff went away when the bootleggers ended up surpassing the quality level of the original creators.

No, bondo is polyester.  This is made of polyurethane resin (ポリウレタン, on the second line of text on the box,  means polyurethane).  It's the good stuff.
I've seen a lot of crap bootleg kits made of polyester resin, but never original garage kits from Japan.
So if one of you wants to buy this, you'd probably be paying too much, but you'd be getting a good quality kit.

You guys can punch me, especially because I loved drawing (and looking at) very technical illustrations of weapons/vehicles (when I was a kid)....but these days?

I WANT SUPER-DEFORMED versions of Vic Viper...I want Parodius kits, really.

Truth.

Oh well, thanks for making clear what that kit is made of. I'm only used to paint on polystyrene, polycarbonate and some gk resin (but please don't ask me what exact kind of resin, I have no idea).
There seem to be a lot more materials like polystone, polyvinylchloride, etc. I used polyurethane only as a foam for insulating purposes (and my better half uses it for her cosplay weapons).
