The grading is meaningless and quite ugly, so I'd say it's worth no more than any other boxed and nice Duo.  The consensus seems to be that they never were sealed from the factory, so I wouldn't pay more for something fake and unverifiable.  Actually, if it truly is new it'd be worth less to me than a one that's been recapped and confirmed working; after all this time, the odds are pretty good that the caps have leaked out on the pcb and eaten traces and/or destroyed other components.

I don't think the slabbing fad will ever go away. Action Comics #1 gets slabbed, regardless of condition, and then sold for 7 figures. That said, I find it funny that people get so upset over something like this getting slabbed. One Turbo Duo off the market for playing doesn't effect the prices of others that bad. I'm sure that for this one TD getting slabbed, there are 5 that have been thrown in the trash, because they "don't work."

Slabbing an Action #1 is done to protect a $300,000 book that nobody will ever read from elements that will eventually destroy it. It's not a great choice, but really the only one for books that significant.

Leaving aside that Action #1 is the peak of comic significance, is three times the age of a Turbo Duo and that a single clean copy is worth more than every Duo that currently exists combined, never minding all of that, only a complete fuckwit would see an analog here. Slabbing this system GUARANTEES damage rather than preventing it. It's not like a CD-ROM or something where it really will last forever and the only things to fear are UV radiation that would fade the cover. This system isn't being protected, it's being doomed. Truly the fin de siecle of moron collectors who only see shrink wrap, card board, and dollar signs when they look at anything game related...or maybe anything at all. The dumb box may actually enhance its "worth" at the moment, but word will get around, slabbing games will die down, and if this guy waits 10-15 years to sell the thing he might very well find a market that doesn't even want it since BY THEN IT WILL NEED A PCB TRANSPLANT in addition to a recap just to boot a game whereas running (but nowhere near original) machines will likely still be plentiful.

Assuming someone buys into this stupid Duo, it will never ever leave the plastic tomb. They bought it because it was slabbed, so who gives a fuck if it works? They slabbed it to keep it "new in box!" Action #1 is not a "collectard piece". Neither is a Fabrige egg, a Stradivarius violin, a Ming vase, etc. It's an antique artifact that is valuable not just for what it actually is but mostly because of its cultural significance. Nobody who collects Mesopotamian pottery actually uses it to store dry goods. Furthermore, simply touching an Action #1 with human hands does damage. Exposing to light does damage. The slab is basically required to keep the thing from disintegrating. It's not disrespectful to the comic or what it represents in any way.

Right now, this Duos greatest threat isn't external damage, its internal damage. It's literally dying in there. Making a case for this is just indefensible. Nobody is protecting this Duo at all and it isn't even worth protecting because it's nearly a 23 year old machine that could be doing what it's designed to do right now, but it isn't because some shithead doesn't value it for what it is. Now it's not a game machine. Now it's a giant box of junk. It can't play games. All it can do is give its owner a raging 2" boner.
