okay, so a couple years back (college dorm days) I bought a PSP so I could game without bothering my roommate too much.
since I left, I haven't touched my PSP too much, until recently.
and lo and behold, there have been a lot of good games to come out towards the end of this buggers life.
some games i've enjoyed:
Final fantasy Dissidia
Ys remakes/7
Prinny 1/2
Star ocean

...and just about any rhythm game I can find has been at least fun to mess with.

so, what else is good? I just picked up 3rd birthday, need to give that a shot.
what about legend of heroes? is that good?

The "original" (to psp) Legend of Heroes trilogy is pretty hacked up, but still enjoyable IMO....now Trails in the Sky (the newest in the series in the US) is by far one of the most enjoyable modern games I've played in quiet some time.

More greats:

Jeanne D'arc
Ultimate GnG
Brave Story
Twinbee Collection
Parodius Collection
Gradius Collection
Salamander Collection
MGS Peacewalker
Half Minute Hero
Disgaea 1&2
Metal Slug Anthology
Genesis Collection
Capcom Collections
Gurumin
Lunar Silver Star Harmony
Gundam/Macross series

Jeanne D'Arc is one of the best PSP exclusive games by far!

Arkhan Asylum

Growlanser for PSP is good.  Ragnarok Tactics.   Legend of Heroes: Titties in the Sky

God burst eater was legit.

There are a ton of boner inducing PSP games.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Actually beats Final Fantasy tactics in some ways

I didn't buy a PSP until near the end of the series 2000. Because of this there was a lot of great shit to choose from.

Super Robot Wars Z2 (parts one and two)
Super Robot Wars MX
Initial D
Macross Ace Frontier
Macross Ultimate Frontier
Densha de Go!
Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts
Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast
Space Invaders Extreme

If you haven't done so already, I would HIGHLY recommend that you hack your PSP so that you can copy the UMDs to the Memory Stick. The difference in load times is HUGE. Eventually games started coming with an "install" option (SRW Z2 1&2 have this) but earlier games don't. Honestly with games like Initial D I don't think I would have the patience to play through if I had to sit through the INSANE load times that come from running it off the UMD.

yeah, that was one of the first things I did :D
partially because it saves battery/time, and partially because I have a couple of those limited box set thingies and the boxes are nutso impossible to open.

Jeanne D'arc has interested me for a while, as has Gurumin, what makes the two of those so good?
also, is there any reason to get the shmup collections on psp in particular? or are they just good ports of the games?

hoobs88

Killzone was the game that got me interested in the PSP. Dead Head Fred is pretty cool too.

Gurumin is by Falcom, so that's why that game is good. :D  Seriously though, it's a really good platformer/action/RPG.  It's cute, so be aware of that incase that doesn't agree with your stomach. :)

Oh, & I don't consider 3rd Birthday the best game ever.  It's a fun game, but there's some frusterations at time from what I recall.  I still haven't played Parasite Eve 2 yet, gotta get around to that, but I loved the first game.

GohanX

On top of the other games mentioned, I would add FF7 Crisis Core to the mix. I'm not a big FF7 fan, but I loved playing through Crisis Core. FF7 would have been 10x better if it has Zack instead of Cloud in it.

For some cheap, long lasting fun, the Ridge Racer games (or at least the 2nd one) and some version of Monster Hunter (preferably Freedom Unite) is a great bang for your bucks.

blech. not a fan of monster hunter, personally.
to me it comes across as WoW, but without the huge online multiplayer.
so basically a time vacuum.

Crisis core I almost beat a while back, too bad I've completely forgotten what the hell was going on.
I'll have to sit down with that again.

That sounds more like the Phantasy Star Portable games to me :P But I can see where you're coming from. MH is best enjoyed in local multiplayer.

lol, totally forgot those came out...
but yeah, I only know one person who plays monster hunter, and he's kind of just totally nuts and grinds my patience away after about 45 minutes, so i don't think i'll be playing those games anytime soon.

I managed to get a friend interested in MH just when I was starting out as well, he's more hardcore than I am now, so I guess I should consider myself lucky in that regard :D Spontaneous PSP multiplayer just doesn't seem happen in this part of the world...
But yes, enormous timesinks

I've been getting into some PSP as of late too!  I've got the Gradius and Half Minute Hero games- pretty fun stuff.  And I totally agree about the Legend of Heroes games, great stuff!! If only there was more time to play all these RPGS!!  TOO MANY!!!

I also really enjoyed Taito's Space Invaders Extreme.  Pretty rad stuff.  I'll have to check out more rhythm and music games.  Any suggestions for those?  Its cool to have more options for quick pick up and play games vs. having to invest time in an RPG.

From the top of my head DJMax? Haven't played it, but the music's (or what I've heard from it) is pretty good :)

Yeah, I used to love playing MH. After well over 1000 hours though, my interest started to wane.

I didn't know Space Invaders Extreme was decent, I'll have to look for that eventually.  On that note, in some googling, I found there were 3 or 4 Space Invaders games for the PSP, but only Extreme made it out here, I might try to track them all down.

On Legend of Heroes, since there's HD versions being released for PS3(in Japan), I think that may give the rest of the series a better chance to be released out here(on PSP, PS3, or Steam).  Also, Legend of Heroes 8 was just announced for PS3 & Vita!  http://the-magicbox.com/1212/game121216c.shtml

Aghhh.  Yeah you have to beat Crisis Core.  I wasn't really that satisfied with it, but the story - and the ending - is epic.

I can't add any recommendations not already made, other than that I enjoy the Lego games (available on every system and generally better on consoles anyway).  If you want to fall out of love with your PSP, pick up a copy of Dungeon Explorer.

I'll say Crisis core is great too, I also like the Prinny games as they are hard but rewarding when you get good at them.

Has anyone mentioned the redone Ys games yet?  I really like Chronicles, the soundtrack alone was worth it t me.

Prinny 1 was awesome, took forever, but i finally curb stomped that game a while back, never got around to prinny 2: DooPD
Ys goes without saying round these parts, though I still need Chronicles, I've got 7 and i'm playing oath right now.

My recommendations are:

GTA LCS
GTA VCS
Ace Combat X
Burnout Legends
God of War (both of them)
Echochrome
Echoshift
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
MGS Portable Ops
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
Monster Hunter (any of them)
Syphon Filter (both)
Darkstalkers
There are probably more, but of the games I own, those ones are great fun.
