Tight MC vids! No wonder the US version is so damn expensive!

Thanx y'all. This is getting pretty fun.

Oh yeah the Valis 4 video

The only Turbo Valis game I don't have and it has some pretty parallax scrolling.

I thought Valis 1 was the last one they made. That one doesn't have it.

I just beat Genpei Toumaden 2 three minutes before making this post.
I'll have to practice this game harder before making any more vids of it.

Digi.k

bah I gave up on that level early on in the game the one where you being chased by hot molten lava and you forced to keep going forward... grats on completing it though.. hehe you should try the first Genpei game.. O_o;

added another vid of the last boss on bomberman 93.

OK, you can tell me how far I got in the game. I can get up to the boss at the waterfall -- the "whistle" music plays as the boss slowly descends.

Back in the day, I could beat him every now and then (pure luck), but now when I get to him, I just totally choke.

Did I at least make it halfway through the game? The map, IIRC, looked like I barely made it 1/4 - 1/3 of the way. :)

Yeah that's like Round 3.

This is one of those games where you really have to study boss patterns.  The best time to hit the boss with the whistle is when he does that spinning attack. Duck first then jump over it, and if he lands close enough to your player, it's the best time to hit him. It's a bitch trying to jump his knives though. A more advanced strategy would be to actually know when to jump before he swings his sword when you're in close. I may twist my mind and my tongue, but on some bosses in Samurai Ghost, you have to really know how to manipulate the time frame between your attack and the enemy's, or manage recovery time after jump dodging an attack. For instance, a fraction of a second is a huge difference on when that you land that weak spot.

Some Samurai Ghost facts:
>Mid bosses are actually optional, so you can just dodge your way to a red gate. If you beat them, you get a bonus stage.

Best tips for playing in any stage in general is to always be in guard position (holding down block). Best for several reasons:
> Aerial enemies that can be killed in a single hit such as the fireheads, the hands that appear out of thin air, the frogs that hang around poison water (in fact, you can tell that poison water is around because a certain music track will play only in those stages) will easily bump into your sword.

>Those irritating "hit and run" enemies, and enemies that can block your hits, y'know when you try to attack them they keep backing up, such as the red goblins, the crow, or the colored ninjas (blue throws shuriken, yellow shoots fire arrows etc).  When they hit you when you're in guard, the enemy will be in block stun which means you get a free easy counterattack. If the enemies fly and back away everytime you swing, you can bait them with the guard position.

Oh and a small spoiler: The final stage is nothing but rematches with the bosses you've already beaten.

You just gotta keep at this game. It really didn't take me long to learn it. It's one of those games where it's tough at first, but is tons of fun once you get down the patterns.

Ha! I knew I didn't make it far in the game. Yes, the kool thing about the game is that you actually do use all the different moves: blocking, up+swing vs. down+swing vs. swing, etc.

I know that you can jump over the "Red Gates" at the end of every stage. Sometimes there is a second gate to enter (and sometimes its a different color -- yellow? -- as well). Have you figured out any strategy to these gates? IIRC, they take you to different sub-stages.

Without spoiling things: are there many more parts with crumbling bricks that disappear from underneath your feet? I figure there must be :).

I never actually tried jumping over the gates. Yellow gates are bonus rounds as previously mentioned after optional mid bosses are beaten.

There's more of those block crumbling stages ahead. But wait til you get the ice stages where the ground is slippery, and you'll have to play "hurdles".

There is one more certain stage to tell about though. It's very very easy. At the beginning, it gives you a sword power up, but all you'll be doing is jumping demon dogs and small platforms. Never attack ANYTHING, because at the end of that phase, there's a giant centipede that you can kill in several hits otherwise it'll take forever and it'll chase your ass down too if you try killing it with your standard sword.

Dude, you'll have fun jumping over the gates! Maybe the yellow gates only appear after beating the sub-boss (my memory is hazy), but there are definitely instances where a second red gate (or archway) can be accessed by hurdling over the first one.

ICE!? Noooooooo..... That actually sounds vaguely familiar, I wonder if I got that far in one of my lucky games back in the day.

Ninja, you've inspired me to re-visit this game!

That's it. As soon as my dad gets in bed, i'm gonna record the rest of the game. If I die, oh well....

I just got one just now.

they're all over 50Megs.

Because I died twice in Round 6 and been cautious on tactics, the round 6 video is at 98Megs.

that's even better, my VCR > PC capture device for some reason won't do direct feed on old school systems. the preview screen would freeze and I can't capture anything. It can do it on Playstation 2 and XBox though.

TurboXray

Quotemy VCR > PC capture device for some reason won't do direct feed on old school systems.

Is it a composite to firewire/usb device or an actual internal card?

Composite to USB device.

TurboXray

I guess it doesn't like the 240p signal of the old system :(

I remember some guys were using there Mini DV cams as capture devices. They'd hook up the composite signal into the external input of the camera, and run the firewire output to the PC/MAC  - instant capture device.

it's all cool, lol.   btw. i conducted my precision 'anti-arcade perfect' air raid strikes on neo-geo.com forum first, only then did they try to flame the hell out of me-- well after my points had been made. by then it was much too late. their flames were all in vein, lol.   like after a bombed out city, the survivers screaming wildly at the jets that just air raided their city.   some of the survivers do shoot down some of the intruding jets and 're-build' their city  (thread)  in this case, they erased/hid posts, but the memory will never be forgotten.  god that was fun.

now, i've got a samsung digital camcorder that can obviously make superior videos than what i did with a 3.1 megapixel digicam.  it uses mini-DVD-RW + SDcard.  i gotta find the battery and power supply. and experiment with taking vids of games and uploading them to youtube, or this other new place called gameklip.com  that lets you upload vids, or will do soon.

Yeah seriously, I never seen a gamer with a really strong eye for comparisons between different versions as far as minor things like background detail and other things of that nature.

I gotta look into this gameklip sometime.

handygrafx

hell i could be another  "me too" and say, 'yeah the Genesis and SuperGrafx versions  of Ghouls 'n Ghosts were really great ports of the arcade, nearly arcade perfect'  and be done with it.   but then, that would be boring, untrue and not helpful to someone who wants a detailed comparison.

all this 'passion'  (lol) goes back to me as a little kid being HORRIFIED and dismayed that Genesis Altered Beast was not 'exactly' like the arcade-- my first look at the Genesis version, i instantly saw how it was different, not as good as the arcade game that i had been playing every chance i could.

Keranu

Welcome back, SuperGrafx/handygrafx/Airraidx/etc..! It's nice to see that you boldly posted that you weren't dissing the Genesis or Super Grafx versions in any way but honestly saying that they aren't arcade perfect.

exactly!    i love the SuperGrafx, Genesis, TurboGrafx/PC-Engine, TurboDuo
etc.

i'm just against the liberal use of any word, phrase or implication that games are identical to the arcade if they're not.

NEC and Hudson never really pushed those false ideas, but Sega did in the beginning with Genesis  (and im a huge Sega fan).

GameFan was one of the worse magazines in that regard but there were many others.
(i still enjoyed GameFan and many of their staff are kewl including ECM)

i also hate censorship.  on neo-geo.com forum, they're really like little laughing hinena NAZIs over there. its disgusting.

Hahah even though I enjoyed the Genesis version, I know what you mean. If you were playing two player on the arcade version (in which one of my friends has a cabinet of in his own house) and both of you were werewolves, the game would have an insanely hectic pace if you just kept doing the dash attack non stop. Genesis version didn't have that because it could only go so fast.
