@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Quote from: Ninja SpiritHahah even though I enjoyed the Genesis version, I know what you mean. If you were playing two player on the arcade version (in which one of my friends has a cabinet of in his own house) and both of you were werewolves, the game would have an insanely hectic pace if you just kept doing the dash attack non stop. Genesis version didn't have that because it could only go so fast.

well yeah true, but there's alot more to it than that.   not only are the Genesis graphics VERY significantly different (downgraded or cut out) from the arcade, i.e.  sprites, color, animation, missing FX. etc. -  but also the pacing and the gameplay difficulty are far different on Genesis.  the Genesis Altered Beast is MUCH easier than the arcade, and generally goes at a faster pace because of this.  although the arcade is more hectic as you said because enemies don't die as easily.

the one thing the Genesis version had that the arcade did not, was parallax scrolling.  but that did not make up for the overall downgraded, washed out graphics with smaller sprites, less animation, missing scaling/zooming effects. etc.

of course, the Genesis version is overall the best home version of the arcade overall.  the music is very close to the arcade.  music from Sega System16 to Genesis did not suffer much downgrade.

the PC-Engine HuCard (never saw the CD-ROM version) although not on par with the Genesis version in many areas (music, parallax)  the developer (NEC Avenue?)  actually tried to be more faithful to the arcade
in other ways, than Sega's own Genesis version. more color, sprites that look more like arcade, effects that attempt to immitate the arcade more.
still, the Genesis version was superior overall, dispite this.  neither system could reproduce the System16 arcade - i would've loved to have seen the SuperGrafx try though, with a 16 meg SHuCard.

i was pretty pissed when, years later, the Sega Smash Pack for Dreamcast and PC  had the Genesis versions of Altered Beast and Golden Axe instead of the arcade.

Ninja Spirit

Aight fellaz, keep the NEC/Hudson love flowing through youtube.

While you're at it, I'm gonna be doing Sega master system videos for a bit, Keranu and I saw there's not enough of those either :D. the hands on retro action shall be spread!

Keranu

And after I do some more PCE videos, I'll be doing some 3DO and PC-FX ones! :)

way ahead of ya with the sega saturn video stuff (although I suck at the radiant silvergun)

Ahem* i 'll try and get some more PCE stuff later this may ^__^

Ninja Spirit

Yeah I just put up Time Soldiers and Kenseiden vids.

guyjin

my god, I forgot how horrible time soldier's music was  :(
But kenseiden is neat.

(BTW, please put "sms" or "master system" in your ms videos, to make them easier to search, thanks)

Ninja Spirit

Ah that was you! Yeah I'll be more specific next time.

guyjin

didn't think anybody read video comments...

Ninja Spirit

Better believe it dawg. Got quite a bit of them on my Dracula X videos, and also got fans (Fans = people who saved your videos to their favorites.)
For them to post comments on videos of obscure games like that really shows that they're up on it as we are.

However on my vs fighter match videos, I deal with a pestilence of slam critics saying that we suck and they'll pwn us, but we really play better than what they see.

Can't wait to get home from school. Tape myself blowing shit up with my light phaser in "Rambo III".

Digi.k

some vids of the later levels on Salamander..

Anyone who says the PC Engine has a lame sound chip needs a slap on the wrist!!  I got proof it's awesome *cough* my vids!  I am seriously falling in love with the music in this game.. its just amazing!
I'll try and get a vid of the last level if I can figure out how to do it ... its insane...

Ninja Spirit

Digi.k, you're the star of this whole movement now! 8)

Your Radiant Silvergun videos are awesome!

Back to Salamander though, that music is pretty off the chain!

I love the drum set Konami used in it. It's also been used in other Konami PCE games. Doesn't Snatcher's PSG tracks use that same drum set?

Wow, now I realize, Life Force on NES is INFERIOR.

What's level 4 on the PCE version is stage 2 on the NES.

Dracula X action.

Ninja,

That vid was helpful.  I stopped playing right there.  Got to the sorcerer and couldn't finish him off.  Maybe I will pick up where I left off there about a month ago.  It seemed that the super cross attack was a huge factor.  I was using the bible hidden in the room before the bosses.
What a horrible night to have a curse...

those are truly exellent videos. i didn't realize how good Salamander on PCE was, and the music is quite good!

btw, what did you use to capture the video?   did you use an emu or the real PCE and HuCard, and some capturing software?   my knowledge of this stuff is incredibly lacking.

thanks for those vids.

He definitely played on the real system with a camcorder in front of the TV. You can tell a live video by its quality and how hollow the sound is. That's how I did my vids as well. Unless the game was unreleased and can only be on a rom, we PCEFX'ers say "NO" to emus. 8)

TurboXray

QuoteUnless the game was unreleased and can only be on a rom, we PCEFX'ers say "NO" to emus.

Really? I prefer an emu pipe'd to a TV - with nice filtering and all (plus save states). I personally don't like the PCE output - to sharp and such. I used to have a specific setting/profile saved on my old TV for my DUO - back in the day. SNES btw had the best output of the three - regardless of color usage.

Also, I prefer not to put any wear & tear on my real systems unless I have to or for testing hacks/translations/DEV.

Digi.k

yea the pc engine is 'real' but I'm using A/V booster and hooked it up to an amplifier.

and Yes! I love those drum beats and Konami did use the same ones in their other games but I think Salamander just has it playing out more forceful!

I'm not really using a true camcorder. I 've recorded it using canon ixus I zoom digital camera but personally I think the results are pretty good.

I've only used a real camcorder twice .. the frame rate and sound quality are much better but the resolution when its uploaded to you tube is lame. you can see those here:

parodius pc engine.. but its not hooked up to the amplifier downstairs:
Radiant silvergun sega saturn clip:
so I'm gonna be sticking with the canon till I can get off my ass and buy a capture card.

I absolutely love the changes Youtube put on their site. Anyone notice these?
A real volume bar was implemented, a timer, a bar to see how long you have until your video's uploaded, and the best part ever: They optimized the verification/processing time after uploads.

I finally got around to getting my videos on youtube to play in-sync(by switching to mpeg).

I've finally gotten a few more PC Engine videos up on YouTube after putting up something like 25 Saturn clips(pretty much all fmv rips).

Street Fighter II CE: the entire game-
Gallaxy Fraulein Yuna: full HuVIDEO segment-
Dragon Egg!: the entire game-
Among the Saturn videos is the complete sets of cinemas from Tengai Makyou The Apocalypse IV and LUNAR SSS.

Finally, after being inspired by the all-knowing AirRaidX, I put up my own Ghouls 'N Ghosts comparison video with lengthy commentary-

I forgot about AirRaidX... he had some solid points but he was really abrasive! I remember listening to various songs that he had compiled from all the different version of GnG. Crap like this goes beyong abrasive-

"some of the faggots on neo-geo.com forum and

digitalpress forum ARE OWNED because of their sheer stupidity and faggotry."

You lose all credibility when you say crazy things, like when a Sega "fanboy" does a comparison review of a game on Turbo & Genesis and points out flaws in the Turbo version each time as being inherent to the Turbographics16 being such a crappy 8-bit system that simply "can't do this or that" and that anything positive about the Genesis game is due to the fact that the Genesis is far more technologically superior(like most of the sega-16 "reviews").

But AirRaidX goes far beyond losing credibilty with ridiculous comments such as the one listed above and things like describing parts of the Super Grafx game as "NES quality".

This tempted me to do an NES Ghosts 'N Goblins comparison, to show how it rocks the SGX GnG.
