Babymetal gets alot of hilarious flack from "hardcore" metal fans. It's pretty pathetic to watch.

Then you have members of Carcass, Anthrax, Marty Friedman, and others who defend them and go "they're having fun who fuckin' cares." So, *actual* metal musicians are on board, but metal fans still go NO THEYRE STUPID, KILL THEM.

I enjoy Black Metal fans ripping on them.

They have stuff like this, but make fun of this:

and go so far as to talk about killing the girls in Babymetal. I mean, way to be retarded?

They're just upset that 16 year old girls can sing coherently instead of just gargling rice krispies into a microphone, I guess.

I was amused for a few songs, but there is no way I am going to spend time listening to Babymetal.

Once the novelty of the concept wears off...you're not left with much.

Given a choice, there are other manufactured/corporate-created bands that I would rather spend my time with.

It's all about "suspension of disbelief"...I can't take Babymetal seriously right now (as a reference point, I take the theme songs from old tv shows and commercial jingles more seriously than Babymetal). For me, it is a function of time. Once fads fade, and the promoters have long been paid, and nobody remembers Babymetal, then I don't mind evaluating them and appreciating them (if I choose) on their "own" merits.

This is the same pattern I've used for a lot of pop music. I need some distance from it. I'm in no rush to embrace it now, (*)but if I listen to it in a few years and I like it, well, damn, that's great.

Black Metal is freaking rediculous, but I love it. A lot of those guys take the shit dead serious too. Especially the original scene in Bergen Norway. Those guys were crazy as hell... You had bands burning down churches, committing murder, committing suicide.... Hell Mayhem took a picture of their bandmate that blew his head off with a shotgun, and made it their album cover!
I have no doubt that some of those guys would murder babymetal if given the chance lol.

Yeah, the nonsense surrounding black metal's start is really retarded, honestly.

I saw Babymetal live in NYC, and will see them again in May. They're a fun show. They also had a song about putting down your goddamn phone, and people sat there and filmed it with their phones.

It was hilarious.

The division in the metal world is pretty hilarious, but as someone who has followed underground dance music for the past 25 years I can say that that scene does basically the same thing.

Anything popular enough to headline a festival is crap.
Anyone not popular enough to headline a festival is crap.
Genres that sound too professional are sold out big budget crap for drunk frat boys.
Genres made entirely on 30year old gear are unprofessional and amateurish and are for hardcore users of any drugs that aren't booze.
OGs love to complain about how such and such DJs are naff and too reliant on new technology, despite them having probably never once actually rocked a crowd, and certainly not in years.
New DJs like laugh at old guys because they actually played tracks off discs that could only be played from beginning to end with no quick cueing functions.

Most of the people complaining about various genres of metal have one key weakness: they entertain nobody. The guys who are doing it on stage every day for weeks in a row, the guys that quit their day job, despite the hardship, so they could devote three months of their life to their album, the guys who actually entertain people in person with shit they created, those guys, they are the ones doing it right, no matter what the stuff sounds like. That applies to everything. You don't hear Helloween shitting on that Midwestern American, Cookie Monster vocaled noise with Pro Tools quantized high speed chuggy guitar NüMetal, heal wrestler opening theme Monster Energy Drink anthem, and guys like them are the ones thay have every right to. Its the frustrated Facebook otaku who's mad that this world isn't the place where his favorite band can thrive.

I hate Cookie Monster metal, the stuff where the guitars just chug and the volcalist is totally impossible to understand. It's very very same-y, and I hate evil, so it's not for me. That stuff is changing all metal though. Many of the aspects of that sound work their way even into the world of metal bands that can sing, read music, stay out of jail, etc. Its all God's play and we're just actors in it.

Hahaha. Yes, the same basic dynamic occurs in all genres of music.

As I said, I take the songs from 80's cartoons more seriously than most pop music now. But, in a few years, I'll finally acknowledge that some gorgeous music was created.

The other thing I forgot to point out that relates dance music to metal: the public at large is almost totally ignorant of the existence of either of these sub genres, at best it is a fuck buddy relationship where they enjoy it for one or two nights of their lives. The intrinsic silliness of anyone quarreling over legitimacy in an art form so sidelined by the world at large is pretty damning of the entire idea.

We can all agree Nü Metal/BroStep is total crap, Maiden Rules, the 3DO is garbage, Dracula X is the best, etc, but only people in our little world care.

Ok, I had no idea what baby metal even was/is.

After some googling and a couple youtube vids...

I can see how this can be catchy with some of the songs but most seem to have metal sections and then more of a pop song style section. I enjoy most metal, I could prolly enjoy some of this baby metal stuff.

But I think for the time being I will enjoy the relaxed sounds of Scar Symmetry, Primal Fear, CoB etc.

Interesting story.... When I was younger I used to have the cd-rom interface memorized on the Duo so I could play my music cd's in the console while I had headphones on going to bed. I mostly listened to ride the lightning, painkiller or white zombie devil music volume 1 while falling asleep with the volume level maxed.

Now I can barely fall asleep unless I have some sort of music going on in the background.
