Diary of a "Collectard"

I've tried to make some normal conversation with some of you guys, some of who are really cool, very informative, helpful people and i thank you for that

Some of you, are just a bag of hole-less dicks with blue balls dating back to the early 90's.

I guess most of you can put me under the "collectard" category or whatever the fuck it is.

I collect Games, some of which come in those shiny, fancy, pieces of cardboard. I like some of the "Collector's Editions" especially the ones that have some cool statues. I don't mind paying a bit extra for those (notice how i said A BIT)

I've been playing games all my life, i've owned every console except the Atari Jaguar, and Virtual Boy.

Yes i have a fucking 3DO and i love the fuck out of some of the games (Road Rash, Monster Manor, Super Street Fighter 2) the console sucks but i enjoy some of the games, sorry i left out GEX which is also a favorite of mine.

I've made a bunch of purchases on the internet, garage sales, ebay, etc

I've come across some extremely valuable shit in my short time as a "Collectard" and i've sold some extremely valuable and shitty games for some high prices.

This is how it works in case some of you didn't know

I buy a "Lot" of games for the SNES, hmmmm a copy of Earthbound? i already have this shit, oh and a copy of fucking Chrono Trigger i don't need a second copy? BUT WAIT! a copy of Super Valis IV, man i've really wanted to try this game out so i'll keep this, oh and NHL 94??!??!! I USED TO LOVE THIS FUCKING GAME! i'm gonna light up a fucking fat joint and drink a beer, play this with on of my fellow Ranger Fans!

so i keep the two games that I personally want, and guess what? I sell the fucking dumb copy of Earthbound along with Chrono Trigger on the internet. Somebody wants to pay me $170 for a "Rare" copy of Earthbound and a "Rare" copy of Chrono Trigger???? When the fuck did these games become "RARE" i don't fucking know, but i don't fucking care either because now i've got $250 in my pocket that i didn't have before. Hmmmm, it's just some extra pocket change, i'll set it aside in case i find some great games i want to play at a decent price

A Week later I find a 3DO holy shit! comes with 30 games? some of them SEALED? and the guy only wants $150??A?!? i'll take it!

so now i have an additional fucking $100 i got off somebody who believes Chrono Trigger and Earthbound are holy fucking grails and no other kid in their neighborhood has them and they'll be the god damn talk of the town!

oh, and i also have a 3DO now fucking SWEET

but what the fuck do i want these god damn Sealed Games for? i'm only gonna play 5-6 out of these games so i'll trade these stupid games off, whatever

2 months later, someone posts an ad on craigslist, HEY I WANT SOME SHITTY 3DO GAMES !

so i write to this idiot who wants to play TWISTED and fucking KILLING TIME

he tells me what he has for trade, holy shit a fucking set of AES Games! I have an AES somewhere, shit i dont' have any carts though. fine lets make this trade happen

3 months later i build a MAME cabinet, hmm. i guess i'll never touch that damn Neo Geo Again. Maybe someone i know can use it? Trade it off for some SNES games (he got the better end of the deal of course) but i don't fucking care, now i can play the BOF games for SNES and some Lufia, etc. i'm a sucker for RPG's.

I had a turbografx-16 with sidearms, Bonks revenge, JJ and Jeff, i didn't even have fucking keith courage for christ's sake.

I come here looking for more info, man some great stuff on here i didn't know! i look further into the TurboDuo, and find one at a good price. Cool, now i can finally play that Dracula X game which sucks on the SNES, oh and Ys! FUCKING Ys!!!! (which i still don't own) cool i'll sell my turbografx-16, why keep it if i'm never going to use it?

someone offers me $80? hmmm, well they do sell for $100+ on ebay... whatever kid just give me the $80, hey i'll also toss in this copy of Keith Courage since i have 2.

TurboExpress, hey does anyone want this? somebody offers $150... i saw nah man! this thing needs to be recapped! $150 is too high, oh wait what's a recap he asks? i tell him, check out fucking pcenginefx those dudes can help, they're the best in regards to this Turbo shit. He ends up giving me $100 since it's cosmetically in great shape and the video still works.

So now i've got $180 laying around, hmmm a collection of games on craigslist for $100? some titles in here i wouldn't mind playing.

i come home and see some fucking weird game called Congo Bongo? i post the shit up online and people are like HOLY FAAAAAAAACKIN SHEEEEET is that the fucking INTELLIVISION VERSION?:!>!?!

I'd have to say though, I think 3DO is cool. Way more good games on the system then just 5-6 titles. Especially if you import. The thing about selling sealed, originals, doubles, triples, rares, no one cares. Sell your doubles all you want at fair market value. If you can make your hobby support itself without ripping people off, more power to you. Come on the forum though and try to sell them for more then a fair going rate, then obviously you will get hounded.

As for the other stuff, no one cares. Seriously. NO. ONE. CARES. If you think we are all like fucking assholes or something, go take a trip on over to Neo-Geo.com or something, then get back to us after a couple weeks or so.

Polygon, I, too, have a 3DO and I have enjoyed many games on it.

But that's not the point.

The point is that we are not going to collectively throw up our hands and say, "Well, I guess we should passively accept the collectardization of our hobby."

Of course, if you are older, you know that Atari suffered collectardization much earlier, because the folks collecting were older than my generation.

And, like a naive ponce, I thought: well, that will never happen to NES and beyond...

Of course, I was wrong, not realizing that collectardization is a function of aging generations + nostalgia + disposable (hopefully) income + fetish for physical objects + (occasionally) genuine love for a damn video game.

Most of us (except for emulation-only) have admitted that we are varying degrees of collectard (for some of us, if we had the money, we would want sealed games...if only to open them. I fall into this category. However, I don't have money in my budget to buy games, period. But if I could, I'd want all the cardboard and paper and plastic.)

Elemental Master is definitely one of thest shooter on the Mega Drive. Ince you learn the first 4 levels, items and controls it gets really good. Worth giving it another go for sure.

Actually, after seeing what that person did i don't plan on promoting them. I am planning on shedding some light on this subject to my "Followers", and sharing it with the community i'm a part of. I was directed here by a member of that community, who actively posts/buys/trades here which is why i'm here to begin with. A friend recommended this forum for more info on the TurboDuo, etc.

What i find weird is that, that same person was the one who told me about the PCEworks stuff, since they're pretty active on here (so they say) i wonder why they would point those products out to me? anyway, that's besides the point

Considering how good deals take place here all the time I would actually argue the opposite. Nobody is going to sell Beyond Shadowgate for retail price, but we'll sell you Bonk for $2 all day, which prevents full colectardation from setting in.
