Your favorite Hudson game not on PC-Engine?

Bulk Slash (Saturn).
Its a 3D robot action game, where you can transform between Robot and Fighter modes with the push of a button.  Its nicely varied instead of just "Kill all target" scenarios. There is an escort mission and even a bombing run where you have to deliver bombs to certain points in the middle of an aerial mine field without getting shot.

What really makes this game memorable though is the Manageable Intelligent Support System (M.I.S.S.).  On every mission there is a female navigator to find.  She'll help you out by making targets easier to find and each girl has her own secret bonuses (faster speed, more shielding).  They'll get delighted when you get big combos but get pissed when you take hits, and are totally hilarious.  Plus each girl has her own fully-animated love ending with the hero.

Too bad this one never left Japan, as its great fun for all.

Ninja Spirit

my favorite...what do you get when you throw Ninja Gaiden, Strider Hiryu, and Shinobi in the blender?

You get HAGANE for Super NES/Super Famicom.
From time to time I picture this game in Super CDROM2 or even Arcade Card format

Keranu

I'll need some more time to think of my favorite. I haven't heard of that Hagane game before, but it looks pretty sweet!
Quote from: TurboXray on 01/02/2014, 09:21 PMAdding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I don't think I've played a Hudson game that I've liked... at least not that I can think of.
Quote from: Seldane on 04/21/2007, 07:28 PMDVDs are for suckers. Illegally pirated and stolen videos all the way. No menus. No "DO NOT PIRATE THIS!" screens. No fuss. Only perfection. I honestly only pirate movies because that "don't pirate this" screen annoys me.

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

GUTS

Hagane is legendary, I've never seen a cartridge that didn't have a torn label, it's like it was only released as a rental over here in the USA.

I'd say Super Adventure Island II.  It's a shame this is the only action RPG in the Adventure Island series since it kicks ass, I always wished they would have made a #3 with even more levels and more power ups to find since it's kinda short and easy.

rolins

Hmmm...prolly Star Force on the arcade. Had a lot fun playing this at a laundry coin-op years ago.

Seldane

Oh of course! Super Adventure Island 2 is pretty great. Hudson did what Westone couldn't - design levels.

Saturn Bomberman

Tengai Makyou IV both on Sega saturn

Bulk Slash was never released here because the game never shuts its mouth.  It would have required over 100 hours of new English voice, and that's just for stage 1!  The game looks a lot like Metal Head for the 32X (which also talks a lot).  Is the game really as jerky as the Youtube video suggests?

That video is just crap quality.  The game runs at a respectable framerate about 90% of the time.  Also the person playing it totally sucks. And if you don't like the chit chat, you don't have to use a navigator, but it certainly takes away the fun.

Tatsujin

that could be probably chôbôkenjima aka super adventure island on the SFC, since the BGM from kojiro blowed away anything at that time. but seriousely, for any reasons i never was really interessted in hudson products outside the PCE biz. all the master pieces where found on that system (beside of some good old classics on the FC in the pre-pce time) :)

<Senshi> Tat's i'm going to contact the people of Hard Off and open a store stateside..

Kitsunexus

I have to say I'm pretty partial to the Super Bomberman games on the SNES, also the port of Bomberman '94 on the Genesis (Mega Bomberman), it has a completely different but also awesome soundtrack.
Forgive me, my brain is on par with the Bubble System.

Saturn Bomberman, without question. That will go down in history as the ultimate 2D bomberman.

Joe Redifer

What's the average price for Bulk Slash complete for the Saturn these days?  It definitely doesn't look like a bad game to have.  And since I have Metal Head, I'd like to have something similar that is actually fun.

GUTS

One of the Bulk Slash games, maybe part 2, ran at an ultra smooth framerate.  I remember thinking "wow this looks as smooth as Virtua Fighter 2" back when I first played it.  I swear it was 60fps, anyway though it was really, really nice looking.

ParanoiaDragon

Right now, Super Bonk 2 comes to mind, I'm sure I'll think of something else, but, for now, Super Bonk 2.

Bulk Slash Part 2?? Does this actually exist? I have never heard of a sequal, but I'd be very happy if there was one.

As for Bulk Slash's price, the game had a SataCore release, so its fairly common.  I bought my mint copy of the original print from play-asia about a year ago for $40.  Right now on Ebay theres a Sealed copy of the SataCore release BIN for $63, not too bad in my opinion.

You're right, I don't know why I thought there was a part 2.  I think it's because I remembered seeing a part 2 announced or something back in the day, but obviously it never came out if it was.

Kitsunexus

What is Bulk Slash? I've never heard of it, it sounds like something a supermarket would do to the prices of bad meat or something...

CrackTiger

Not my absolute for sure favorite, but if I have to pick one on the spot:

Tengai Makyou: The Apocalypse IV
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Favorite Hudson game not on PCE:

Faxanadu - NES

My grandma gave this to us for xmas -- she randomly chose it! Amazing, since she often chose LJN's stuff...

Runner up:

Adventure Island - NES

One of the first NES games I became obsessed with. I still love this game.

I still haven't played SAI2 for SNES, even though GUTS told me how great that game is a long time ago.

Favorite Hudson game in the modern era:

Ninja 5-0 - GBA

I have to thank Nemo for telling me about this since I have never spent much time with my GBA or exploring its library.

I'd probably say Tengai Makyou IV or III or something, but I consider those RED games.

T&C's Surf Design, while having the most misleading name since it lacks and editor, has one of the most awesome music tracks ever on the NES (The in-game NES-punk-rock track, god that song kicks so much ass).

I had that game. Wasn't it a paintball game? Crap, or maybe a bunch of mini-games and I only played the paintball part? I don't remember the soudtrack, I'll have to give it a listen now! :)

The sequel might have been paintball, but I'm talking about T&C Surf Design: Wood and Water Rage, which was just skateboarding and surfing. I'll upload the MP3 later today, anyway. ;)

T&C Surf Designs is one of the most fun and addicting games ever made! Well the skateboarding part at least, I never really got into the surfing.

Haha, well maybe it was, but I have fond memories of it. Nostalgia sucks.

I haven't played it since like 1992, at which time I thought it was the shit. If I were to play it again today I might think differently.
