2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

OK, some people will kill me for this, but here are some games that everyone else splurges over, but I absolutely hate.

Resident Evil 4 - Why do people like this game? It was INSANELY boring and repetitive, I got to the area where the house was being overrun with zombies, and I said "THIS IS BULLSHIT" and returned it in exchange for Ikaruga. The sad part is that by buying this game, I missed a chance to snag the exceedingly rare Bloody Roar 4 for GameCube. I've never liked RE games, and whoever says this game is different is completely full of shit. You're still a fucking army tank, but now it's an over the shoulder Border Patrol simulator instead of a survival horror game.

Halo - This game isn't really that bad, but it's not really good either. It's just a standard FPS, with a generic story and weaponry. Why so much hype? And why only hype from the jock-types and rednecks? Goldeneye pwned this shit.

Grand Theft Auto - OK, I LOVED Vice City, and I still do to this day, but this is like Pokemon or those homojock sports games. Every year, new graphical polish and maybe one new feature, and like a new soundtrack. WOOPTY-DOO. It didn't take me long to jump off that boat.

World Of Warcraft - I don't even care why people like this game. It's retarded.

Killzone - I FINALLY figured out why everybody likes this game! DENIAL! Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has...something, I guess, so PS2 fans have to get behind soemthing, even if it's crap.

Call Of Duty series - Call Of Duty 1 was AMAZING. That is the first game that made me feel like I was actually watching a movie (Metal Gear Solid was like watching an anime or something, not that cinematic). COD2 was great as well. But COD3 was RIDICULOUSLY HARD, and 4 is going to ramp it up even more. Massochism, anyone?

And that's about all I can think of. What popular games do YOU hate?
Forgive me, my brain is on par with the Bubble System.

I don't really hate it, but I kind of agree with you about Halo.

I played the original when it first came out at a friend's house and I found it kind of tedious and boring. But I guess it should be stated that I tend to dislike FPS games from the get-go. The only FPS games I even own are the Bond games on the N64 and GameCube.

Four or five years ago I lived in this house with three roommates and they went through this phase where they would have "Halo parties," like, every fucking night during the week. It got real old real fast. I usually just went to my room, drank a lot of Busch or MGD and played TurboGrafx and Nintendo 64 games with my girlfriend. We did have some fun though, just about every weekend we'd find an excuse to throw huge house parties (150+ people) that just went fucking crazy and trashed the neighborhood (the house was in a suburban residential area just outside Seattle). Fights, kegs, and lots of girls. This happened almost weekly for like three months until we got enough complaints from the neighbors that the landlord evicted all of us. Ah.... good times.

But I digress...

Regardless, I would never wait in line longer than 30 seconds to get a copy of either it (Halo) or it's sequel(s).

Because it's on Xbox.

Agreed.  These games are lame.  However I pretty much extend that to all PC games.  I just can't get into gaming using a computer.

I really hate the controls in resident evil 4 or whatever version i played on my friends ps2. It drove me crazy, its not like a standard fps control setup, but some weird ass crap. Oh well, I know that game is popular but i can't stand to play it, haha.

I really hated Halo when it first came out because it got more hype than it was worth, imo. Its like people were telling me that it was the greatest thing on earth and shit, but it wasn't for me. The online multiplayer is lame, you can't even choose your game type( at least it was that way when i played it online), the system selects it for you. Its very slow action, when the dudes jump, they float around and get shot. I guess I'm just used to fast paced fps online multiplayer. The grafx are also a little on the bland side; not very much detail on the space ships and buildings. I just got bored of the environments, it was that bad. I did enjoy the grass in the fields tho, haha.

Here is a game that I liked a little at first, but it gets old. The game itself also handles very poorly. It always locked up on me, so I was never able to beat it. I wish that they fixed that. Also, the rendering of roads and shit while you're driving is really gay. It takes long and then renders a wall in front of you and you crash, wtf is that about. I'm used to rockstars poor programing though, so I'm not surprised.

I actually liked Vice City, but I was playing it on PC not PS2, which may explain why my rendering was better and it never locked up. Actually it did lock up, but that's because I put on a no-clip cheat after I jumped off the highest stairwell in the game with a motorcycle, and it just kept going up, and up, and up, and *BAM!* BSOD.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is one of my favourite games of all time.

I do hate the GTA series with a passion, ever since 3 and the huge amount of hype surronding it (gotta love the soundtrack to vice city though)

As mentioned before killzone, i had the unfortunate luck of playing this game when i bought my second hand ps2, i plugged it in opened the disc drawer and there it was, its very rare i'll play a game for less than 3 minutes before im sick of it, it just has no appeal at all.

Again mentioned before Res4, although i dont /hate/ it i don't rant and rave about it either.

Halo is bland but i've found it to be a game that is easy to pick up and play.

Devil may cry, i know i didnt play these when they were first released but i just find the games boring, i just cant see whats so cool about them.

theres probably a whole lot more but i cant think of any right now

Not much for Metal Gear Solid, Halo or any of the GTA's.  Although I kind of liked GTA 2 on Dreamcast...

Mario Party rules. I won't argue they went a bit over the top with the sequels, but the newest (#8) is pretty cool since it takes advantage of the Wii's unique control system and adds a new dynamic to the game. They could have done away with 3-7 though.

Halo series -I love Halo 2 multiplayer and the same will likely go for 3, but I don't like the campaigns or Halo 1.

Metal Gear Solid series -I forced myself to play through the first one, but it only seemed to get worse after that.

GTA series

3D Zeldas -the only one I got any kind of enjoyment out of was Wind Waker, and only at times. Its more like work than an adventure.

Resident Evil series

Gran Turismo series

Super Mario Sunshine

Final Fantasy series after VII -VII's not a great game, but I had some fun with it. After that it went all the way off the deep end.

2D Sonic series -I don't hate them, they're just not fun for me anymore, but I'm trying to get back into them.

Metroid Prime 2

Megaman 8 -I gave up on the series with this game.

Earthbound

Mortal Kombat series

I agree with a lot of big ones in here.

Final Fantasy VIII and up - Boring, girly men, and ridiculous battle systems (at least from X and up).

Legend of Zelda, The: Wind Waker - Well I'm not so sure if this game is well received enough to begin with, but it's popular and I know some who really like it. This game is really cool until at first, but it gets so boring after the first dungeon. This game is too-linear for me.

Legend of Zelda, The: Twilight Princess - This game suffers the same boringness as Wind Waker, but I think the overall appeal of this game is worse. Actually the parts with Link are pretty cool, but the wolf parts are dreadful. This game is even more non-linear for me than WW.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Ridiculous fighting game with unbalanced characters, wacky mechanics, and awful graphics. It's ok if you're into something like that, but I prefer more "low-to-the-ground" fighters that are more tactical.

Mega Man series - This series had a lot of potential when it first started, but failed flat. A thousand games worth of a cyborg (or android?) kid going through poorly designed levels with annoying gameplay mechanics.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and up - Actually I don't think MGS2 is so bad, but it's overrated of course. I thought Snake Eater was retarded though.

MMORPGs - Yeah all of these games are a bunch of leveling up time wasters.

Pokemon series - Well I should be honest since I haven't seriously played any of these games enough, but I do hate the money grubbing series.

Resident Evil series - I thought these games played like crap even when it first came out and I was only a kid. I love the horror aspect of the game, but it's so uncomfortable to control. I haven't played RE4 yet, but I hear it plays a lot better.

Sonic Adventure - This game seems to be received very well. The first level of this game is awesome and really feels like how Sonic should be in 3D, but the adventure parts are really dull as are the rest of the stages and characters.

Thunder Force III and IV - Yeah you all know my history with these games so you can just look previous posts of mine about these games. To sum it up: loose controls, occasional wide and empty levels, dirty graphics with paper cut out parallax, and scratchy music.

Probably lots more too.

It was because of Zelda the Windwaker that I started to hate my gamecube. Long story short, I was half way or more through the game when the dreadful happened. I was taking care of a bunch of boring mini missions and stuff, beat some dungeon, and went around getting all kinds of treasure from the sea depths ( this took like 4 hours or so), when the bastard gamecube locked up. wtf!? The gamecube locked up on me and I lost all kinds of progress that I had made on that game. I was so pissed that I abandoned both windwaker and the gamecube. Later I was reunited with my gamecube because of the best game on the system; Animal Crossing, haha. Ya, that machine is cool but it sucks when it locks up on you. It was this black screen that said to look in my gamecube manual. The manual said to turn off the system.  Ya, I guess that is the black screen of death.

Still i got np with some of the serise mention here so far.

MGS,RE and Zelda.

Far as halo go's i can't hate for some thing i never played.

Still the hype it has gotten to me and it does annoy me to no end.

I've notice megaman has been mention as well.

Only thing i hate as what the serise has turn into starting, with the battle network serise.At.. that point capcom is just copying from pokemon with that.I mean realy to it's theme, and making it about collecting chips doesn't do it for me.

If any thing i prefer it when megaman was a action based serise.

I hate MANY things.

Gran Tourismo series (except GT Concept) - BORING.
Burnout series - Simplistic, overhyped crap.
FIFA series - will always be light years behind ISS.

I'll cut it short as I could sit here all night.

"Hate" is too strong a word, but I have absolutely no desire to play:

Tony Hawk (anything) -- totally lame crap since day one. Sorry.

World of Warcraft (or any MMORPG) -- Pointless. Need I say more?

GTA Series -- Sorry.

Mortal Kombat series -- I love the atmosphere of these games (brilliant!), but...

Street Fighter Series -- Well, I don't have much interest in fighting games as a genre, so this isn't a slight against SF, but the genre as a whole.

Mario Party Series -- GOOD GOD, this is a waste of time -- and not in a good way. I'd rather play Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter.

Pokemon (anything). FU.

Megaman Battle Network(s!). FU.

Jesus man, a lot of RE haters here. I don't really see why so many people here say it is crap. I remember playing RE 1 when it came out also along with RE 2 being fun for me as well. Sure the controls are wonky but once you get used to them it is no big damn deal. I just liked the story, the feel of environment, characters (not all) and weapons + awesome zombie action. RE 4 turned out to be really awesome since it geared away from the classic RE style which was getting old. Still after playing the RE 1 remake and also RE Zero for GC, I was just blown away with the presentation of these games. My least favorites though are RE 3 and Code Veronica.

I will admit though that it would have been much nicer if the controls where like Dino Crisis 2 which does have a much better control system that feels free. RE 2 on the N64 BTW has free control option with the analog which is really nice. RE 5 looks really fun with all the different things you can do like better action usage with kick, punch, push and using a machete instead of the weak ass knife.

Halo was always very boring for me and everyone at my college plays it like it is the best thing to ever happen to them. This series is very mediocre and I get more enjoyment playing all the Doom games and Return to Castle Wolfenstein any day.

Mortal Kombat died after 1995-96, remember that.

Tiger Woods They just keep changing the controls to frustrate people and yet it is still the same damn game.
My roommate just bought the new one for 360, ehhhhhh.

Need for Speed This series is just getting more and more retarded. Of course this goes for most racing games. Ridge Racer series back in the day especially Rage Racer was the only 3D racer series I liked.

Dot Hack nice try on the multi marketing and many games, but this was just a total hype that turned to complete crap.

And many more......

rag-time4

I hated Final Fantasy VII, but I did play through it and finish it....

Not a single character in the game I could get into. I played VIII for a few minutes but it looked really lame...

NBA Jam is pure classic. 8) I don't really think I had a favorite character so much, but the Bulls were probably my most used team. That's one game that I don't think will ever get old.

I'm personally tired of all of the sub-par FPS's being cranked out these days.  Unless it does something for the genre that hasn't been done before, I'm out.  Games I'm planning on playing are Halo 3, Killzone 2, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and Crysis (oh and probably UT3).

Alt-Nintega

Final Fantasy VII: I have to admit that FFVII was my first RPG but soon after I was rather fortunate enough to start playing the great stuff like Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star IV, and the Lunar series, I realized FFVII is overrated as hell. The only reason most people really love it is that it was their first exposure to RPGs. It is nowhere near the best FF game. In fact I think that game is where the series jumped the shark. Every following sequel got worse.

Grand Theft Auto: IMO Rockstar are game developers secretly hired by Senator John Lieberman, Jack Thompson, and Hilary Clinton to give video games a bad rep in America. GTA is trash at its worst. Only kids and lowlifes would want to play a game as a demented criminal who runs over women with a car. Sad that this sells millions when stuff like Zone of the Enders, PS2 Rygar, etc sell horribly.

Madden NFL: Ok I can see why that is so popular. Most American men love football. Realistic sports sims are so boring IMO. I'd rather play arcadey stuff like NFL Blitz or even Tecmo Bowl on NES over any Madden.

Pokemon: Ok it is not because the gamers are mostly for the younger crowd, it the fact you have to buy mulitcolored versions of the games to get all Pokemon. I think that is so retarded but hey at least the series is whats keeping Nintendo from being dethroned by Sony and Microsoft.

Any MMO that you have to pay every month: Scamming at its worst.

guyjin

most sports games they are virtually all nuisances to play, especially against the people who usually play them (read: assholes.) there are a few exceptions to this rule:
Most wii sports games (except golf, golf can never be fun)
Virtua Tennis, DC
NBA Jam (many incarnations)
Ice Hockey, NES
And other sports games that aren't really sports games (excitebike, etc)

most FPSes. i still play them from time to time, but they all piss the hell out of me, cuz i suck at them.
No FPS can be good using a controller. this is a fact.
When I find myself in the mood for masochistic punishment, these are the games I play:
Halo and its sequels (mostly to be social; i still hate them)
Quake and its sequels
Unreal tournament (dreamcast)
BZFlag

GTA, its spawn, and its clones
Sure, running over the elderly, beating up hookers, shooting cops in the head, and taking down helicopters with a missile launcher is fun for a few hours, maybe even a weekend, but after that it gets boring, and never quite regains its appeal. The in game missions are boring, picky and generally not worth doing. definitely a 'rent, don't buy' series.

Final Fantasy
1,3,4 and 5 are great. Ever since 6, however, the series has lost its appeal for me. they're all so mind numbingly linear anymore. X-2 was a breath of fresh air, and a move in the right direction, but they've been moving away from that, not towards it. bad square, no fiddy.

1. Burning Rangers.  It's the pinnacle of what I hate about first-gen 3D gaming.  Getting lost in camera angles, and not being able to do simple stuff like jumping on the fucking ledge right above you.
2. Madden series.  Man, I LOVE football (I live & breath college-ball), but I can't stand video game football.  Same goes for any "realistic" motorcycle games -- the real thing is sooo much better.  (though no motorcycle games are "popular").
3. Most post FFVII RPGs.  Got I hate sitting through 20 minutes of video, play 2 minutes, and play through another 15 minutes of FMV...  Can't stand them.
4. Grand Theft Auto.  Just don't care about driving around and doing stupid shit.  I'd much rather play Crazy Taxi for some crazy-drivin'.
5. Counterstrike.  *Yawn*

There are some others I'm not big fans of, but I can't say I hate 'em.  (Bonk, Nights, GTA)

Tatsujin

1. dumb raider
2. and any fps's (excl. HL2. not that i really like it that much, but the atmosphere is great here and there, depends on the loc)
3. may be the rockman (mega man) serie. just hate the gameplay and its nasty traps waiting for you in almost every screen.

it's not just the hardness of those games, more the nastiness. i like G'n'G to no end, but hate r0ckman, why? rockman had this typical nasty scenes, where you killed one of those "most difficult to kill"-placed enemies, then you accidental moved back just one pixel on the screen and this muthafugglin' arsehole is there waiting for you again!! no thanx!!

Yeah, Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins pisses me off to NO end... I HATE that series. I can stand Megaman simply because the aesthetics and music are better.
Forgive me, my brain is on par with the Bubble System.
THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS RULE!

MegaMan is awesome, but I think maybe they went a little overboard with the sequels. 30 sequels was probably way past where they should have drawn the line.

Still, I have a lot of fun playing those games and sometimes me and a friend will sit down and not get up until we've conquered one of the ones we haven't beaten yet.

Turbo D

Ya, I love the megaman series. I've only beaten part 2 though, which happens to be my favorite.
