12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Angry Video Game Nerd: TurboGrafx Reviews?

I find the AVGN hilarious, but I just wish he'd review some TurboGrafx games as he is no longer just the Angry Nintendo Nerd. I was just wondering if that was to happen which games do people think he would end up reviewing?  :-k

I could totally see him review some of the early CD games like Sherlock Holmes (I just watched an old GamePro TV show that gave that game best graphics of the year or something like that), It Came from the Desert, etc... He hates the Sega CD so I could totally see him hating those games. hehe

AVGN only reviews games that he thinks are shit god awful.

And of course we know that in the world of Turbo there is just no such thing.

So there probably will never be an AVGN Turbo Grafx review.

turbostar is right, there just isn't any turbo games that can make him angry.

Ehh I'm sure eventually he will make his rounds to Deep Blue,Tail Spin,TV Sports Basket Ball, and Balastix. Maybe a year or 2,but you can count on it prob that he will.

Man I never even owned Deep Blue before until now, that game really does suck..... Its like a chinese knock off of Darius with instant hits everywhere.

Drop Off is the only bad Turbo game.

That would make for a bad episode anyway, cause its such a shit shit shit shitty game!!

I am not a fan of their stuff or anything, and I completely disagree with a few of Angry Videogame Nerd reviews, but some of them are fuckin great, esp when he reviews a LJN title or like that Texas Chainsaw one.The Texas Chainsaw one was a great parody of Texas Chainsaw 2. Yeah, I think sometimes he's just being satirical. Some of his complaints like, "He dies when he falls in the water!!!" What's that shit?!!", can't be that serious. Pretty much every game you die if you fall in the water. At least in 8-bit or 16 bit games. Ghosts and Goblins anyone? From some of his reviews I could imagine him giving a shitty review for GnG.  But man that game IS frustrating. I've been known to act like the AVGN when playing that game.  ](*,)

Meh i like him, he mainly does NES stuff and i was never NEs so it doesnt bother me though the Mega CD and 32X reviews killed me inside, I've seen his TG-16 in a few vids too, then again i've seen nearly every main house console released for the poast 25+ years too, maybe he'll just get around to it eventually, same with screwattack the only TG-16 vid 'Review' they have is Bonks Adventure......tut tut

MotoRoaderMike

No, we don't need AVGN to trash our beloved Turbo. He already trashed the Sega CD, which was an awesome system, and we don't need him trashing another great system.

It was?  :P

As for the TG, I wouldn't mind him trashing some crappy games. It's all for fun anyways. Besides he loves Nintendo to this day. The only system he trashes is really the Sega CD and the 32X, oh and the Jaguar, oh and the... hehe.

But the 32X was pretty lame. And the Sega CD really didn't expand beyond the full motion video phase. NEC definitely knew the CD format a lot better.

As for appearance, the Sega CD I actually looked pretty cool, but the Sega CD II was horrible. The Sega CD II must have been cheaper eh?

IMG

How rare are the Sega CD I peripherals? I knew a couple people with Sega CD II, but I've never seen I in person.
IMG

Its not too rare. Its cheaper that the second one. I got a boxed one on ebay last year for like $40 plus shipping. I thought it was a pretty good deal since it was boxed 8)

Sega CD I looks nice if hooked up to a Genesis 1, but a Genesis 2 looks much better with a Sega CD II, and the CDX looks sexier than both of 'em put together.  The second model was indeed simplified to lower costs and increase reliability.  Nowadays, the first one is prone to failure and therefor, less desirable (cheaper).

The second Sega CD model was ALOT better than the first one. It had a pop open lid, and you didn't need to turn it on to change the friggin' game (Plus you don't have to worry about the drive door constantly opening up again right after you close it!), better start up music, better everything. And there alot of good games on the system:

Sol Feace
Cobra Command
Jaguar XJ220
Time Gal
Road Avenger
Batman Returns
Final Fight CD
Prince of Persia (And the best damn version you can find at that!)
Wolfchild
Lethal Enforcers
Lethal Enforcers II
Rise of the Dragon
The Terminator
Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin
Starblade
NBA Jam
AH3 Thunderstrike
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
Rebel Assault
Revenge of the Ninja
Snatcher
Fatal Fury Special
The Space Adventure
Lords of Thunder

Ah, so there was a problem with the drive door on the Sega CD I? I don't doubt that there are several reasons to like the Sega CD II, with the most important reason being that there are less mechanical things that can go wrong with it. Sorta like when I bought my used car I made sure it didn't have power windows. Those motors eventually go and they're not cheap to replace.

Aesthetically speaking though, I prefer the Sega CD I. But if I had the choice between a nice looking piece of junk and a not as nice looking system that works...well, the choice is obvious.

Joe Redifer

The only way the Sega CD 1 drive would pop back open again is due to user error.  I do not like the GUI of the SEGA CD 2.  It's hard just to go in and see your Back Up RAM cartridge saves and you seem to have to wait forever to do it.  In fact I think you may even need a CD in the drive.  So suffice it to say that the Sega CD 1 BIOS is waaaay better than the Sega CD 2's, with the exception of the crappy music.

Robo Aleste is pretty cool,  I forgot about that one even though I own it.  Batman Returns is awesome if you turn off the platform levels, and don't forget about Soul Star.  It's not a spectacular game, but it is great eye candy.  Thunder Strike looks kind of bad, but it is really fun.  Lords of Thunder isn't quite "great" due to the sound effect issues and lack of difficulty that version has.

I haven't had any problems with the drive door on my segacd model 1. I have the one with the motorized tray. I have read that there is a segacd model 1 with a non motorized tray that is more desirable because you don't have to worry about the motor going out. I like the motorized tray though; it makes it seem like my genesis is a computer, haha.

There is no Sega CD 1 without a motorized tray.  The motor on the tray will probably be the last thing that goes out unless you have a habit of pushing the tray closed instead of closing it via the BIOS.  The spindle motor should wear out long before that.

You've been lucky. Old cd players ARE extremely unreliable. Much, much moreso than modern players. That is a fact. They love to stop working. They even disassemble themselves sometimes. If you've actually used a modern CD player, you've been using some chinese no-brand crap. Or you just made up the fact that they are more reliable than "modern" players.

No...I didn't just make that up. Though the CD players I'm talking about are Sony and AIWA. I now have a 5 disc Sony CD changer and that thing is just a nightmare. But I think that has more to do with the fact it's a 5 disc changer than anything.

I'm totally serious about what I said. Those old CD players, especially that AIWA, are tough little buggers. I been through moves upon moves with them, taking them to parties back in high school to DJ with. They've had drinks poured on them, dropped and banged. Maybe I was overstating it when I said that ALL new CD players are pieces of shit, but when our manufacturing jobs are being exported to places with cheap labour, such things are bound to happen. I think I'm just bitter about my 5 disc changer. That thing is just waiting to go on me.  ](*,)

But these suckers will play any CD, whether burned, scratched or whatever. But I will say that my 5 disc Sony is extremely good in terms of vibration. But it's also a DVD player so I think that has something to do with that as well.

But what is worse are CDs. They are flimsy pieces of crap now that scratch if you so much as breathe on them. If you hold a 1st gen CD and a 2nd gen CD in each hand you can tell that the 1st gen CD is more durable. When CDs first came out one of the biggest things going for them was their durability. There is actually a noticeable difference is weight.

Damn, you're one serious SegaCD fan boy. I'm 31 btw(since you asked) and I was around when those crap titles came out. That's right, I've had the same opinion of those crap games before way before AVGN. Your the type of gamer we used to laugh at, at the game stores. Glad you bought all the crap, someone had too. I could never stand the US/EU crap that starting coming out for Sega (and somewhat less for Nintendo too) in '92-95.

Btw, why post videos of that dork? After watching those videos, I have seen the error of my ways - please forgive me... That guy is a complete f-ing moron/nerd/geek (not to mention his voice is annoying too).

QuoteFatal Fury Special, average. You've got to be out of your fucking mind to think that.
Yup, it's an average port. You don't think it could have been a better port(The PCECD version is)? You're easily pacified.

QuoteAnd Time Gal is one of the best FMV games I ever played. Even better than Dragon's Lair.
I played it before the SegaCD came out (MegaCD from a friend). And not, Road Avenger is better. But in general, FMV *games* suck anyway. They're better to watch than to play after beating it the first time around.

Quote"The Terminator" is one of the best licensed games of all time.

QuoteBatman Returns is awesome, and you probably only played it for 5 minutes and gave up, and didn't give it a chance.
You're smoking crack. That game blows. Yeah, the driving parts are cool, but platform part totally sucks and the graphics are seriously nasty. The original Batman Sega cart was waaay better than that crap and had better graphics(much better).

QuoteRise of the Dragon is on the same level as Snatcher.
Yeah? You're fucking nuts. Rise of the Dragon was a crappy PC game (which I had and was better than the SegaCD version btw) in comparison.

Yes. And as I already stated, 31.

QuoteWolfchild crap? Who are you? That moron kolibiri, aka Howard Cneal?
Wolfchild is just another crap title in the later generation of the Genesis. And it reeks of EU style/design. It sucks.

QuoteAH3 Thunderstrike is one of the few flight sims that people who aren't into flight sims can enjoy no problem.
That doesn't mean it isn't crap. It's the type of game that belongs on the PC. I'm not into flight sims or this game.

QuoteCadillacs and Dinosaurs is awesome too.
If you say so....

QuoteRebel Assault is one of the BEST Star Wars games EVER made.
Now I know you're a f-ing liar. The SegaCD port was a watered down port of the PC version (which I owned as well). The game sucks on PC and it sucks on any other format too. What's up with your full motion video fetish? These FMV games for the most part, are completely fucking soulless. God damn..

QuoteJaguar XJ220 is one of the best racing games of all time.
Are you stuck in SegaCD ages or something? Maybe you haven't played newer generation racing games (like this generation for example).

Seriously, unless you were like 10 when you had those games, I can't see any excuse why you even like those games (you know, the ones that suck). But if you weren't, then you have some serious poor taste in games based on your list.

Next you're going to tell me Popful Mail sucks (which is doesn't).

Quote from: MotoRoaderMike on 10/30/2007, 03:30 PMThe second Sega CD model was ALOT better than the first one. It had a pop open lid, and you didn't need to turn it on to change the friggin' game (Plus you don't have to worry about the drive door constantly opening up again right after you close it!), better start up music, better everything. And there alot of good games on the system:

Sol Feace
Cobra Command
Jaguar XJ220
Time Gal
Road Avenger
Batman Returns
Final Fight CD
Prince of Persia (And the best damn version you can find at that!)
Wolfchild
Lethal Enforcers
Lethal Enforcers II
Rise of the Dragon
The Terminator
Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin
Starblade
NBA Jam
AH3 Thunderstrike
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
Rebel Assault
Revenge of the Ninja
Snatcher
Fatal Fury Special
The Space Adventure
Lords of Thunder

LOADS
The majority of those titles are infact really good. The only one I was not hot on was Fatal Fury Special or the Samurai Showdown port, that was not a good port really. Rebel Assault was horrible to me too. I liked those, along with Android Assault,Robo Aleste,Batman and Robin,Silpheed,Lunar Silver Star and Eternal Blue,Vay,Shining Force Cd,Dungeon Explorer,Eternal Champions,Mortal Kombat,Kei Flying Squadron,Popful Mail and a few others. I had these titles on Sega Cd,and had more then just a Genesis/Sega Cd combo, had plenty of others systems and games to play,so I wasn't a Sega fanboy.

These games honestly were nice for the system, and had alot of fun to be had. Even Spider Man,other then its god awful soundtrack.....

I agree with Helgeson, but Spider-Man had a song by Eric Martin in it!

Quote from: BonknutsBtw, why post videos of that dork? After watching those videos, I have seen the error of my ways - please forgive me... That guy is a complete f-ing moron/nerd/geek (not to mention his voice is annoying too).

About the old-vs-new CD player fight:

Back in the day, CD players used to be much more of a luxury item, and therefore the players were higher quality.

As time went on, CD players became commoditized and cheaper; to fill the demand, CD players got cheaper too. Compare the PS and Saturn CD players: the cheaper Sony system tends to have problems with its player (Anyone remember people tilting their Playstations?) but I've never seen a Saturn with the same problem. It was more expensive, and of higher quality.

So, the only reason old CD players seem to last longer is because they were better equipment to begin with, and the ones that failed ended up in dumpsters.

Super werd re: hardware, guyjin.

The Sega-CD had some superb games, but the shit to shine quotient was way too high.  Some of the best games were still a waste of the hardware, as they weren't much better than what could've been done (or already had been done) on cartridge.

P.S. - Sheesh!  Can't we all just get along?  Or at least act civilized?  Grow the hell up, or I'll kick all y'all asses over by the swing set after school.

You're a hero for saying that. It's Prince of Persia. So true... Such a HORRIBLE game! For ANY format. Especially Mega-CD.
Okay, FM-77, I've dealt with your weird gaming tastes before, but this takes the cake. This time you have gone too far!

I LOVE Prince of Persia! I bet the only reason you don't like it is probably because you played for five minutes and left throwing a fit because you couldn't get used to the controls, right? Yes, I admit that the controls could have been better thought up, but once you get used to them, they work fine. The game is a classic. I loved the feeling of having to explore the palace while trying to quickly and effectively get through the levels. But I will admit it, yeah, the voice acting in the Sega CD version was the worst acting I've ever seen, worse than the infamous Resident Evil intro. The villain's name is Jaffa now? WTF!?

And before you start getting defensive, let me remind you, that you panned the Metal Gear series based on one reason: you couldn't figure out the controls. When I first played MGS3 on my PS2, I was fine with the controls. I was blown away by the sense of realism in a fantasy world at times. I still have fond memories of playing it for the first time.

Now, I'm not saying that anyone here sucks, or that they're stupid, but please, PLEASE don't act like you're the ultimate authority on why a game sucks. I can understand not liking a game, and explaining why you don't like it, but don't state that a game sucks, as if it's a fact. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a horrible game. Everyone has games that many people like that they absolutely hate, and everyone has games that are mostly panned that are guilty pleasures for them.

I actually once met a guy who said that Snatcher sucks. Doesn't mean it does.

If you have read all this and learned something, I salute you. If you just saw that this post was long and skipped it so you wouldn't have to deal with my ranting, you can go to hell for all I care.

You can not be serious..  you actually think that guy's cool!? As far as AVGN, who the hell cares (did I miss something here?). He's not a serious reviewer - far from it. He's just poking fun at games. People who take serious offense to his "reviews" need to get some counselling. Also who the hell is that guy and how the hell do I remind you of him? You don't even know anything about me  :-s
