12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

And is it any damn good?  Looking all sorts of sweet with that monkey.   8-[  What a title too.  Copy and paste is in session.

Also is there a code word or nickname for this title?  I don't want to drag that out everytime I mention it- which admittedly wouldn't be much.

Read runinruder's splendid review here.

I haven't played it, but it looks like fun to me.  I doubt that many dudes here have it, as it's über pricey, but maybe they've found an iso and played it that way (which I've heard isn't as good).

Personally, I really really like it, and I fully intend to own it one day. Currently I just have a CD-R of it. I think its the only CD-R PCE game I have aside from the Y's IV translation, and my remix of Lords of Thunder, both of which I made myself from originals.

Its basically a deal where the monkey has a course to do through and you program his moves all at once. So, walk, jump, roll, etc and hopefully he won't fall off a cliff or get eaten by a dog. There is usually more than one way to complete a level. Its rad.

i heard people call it "bazaaru de gozaaru no geemu de gozaaru", but which i think is way too long for a simple nick. but in switzerland, we call it also "ds affeschwanz game" which means "the monkey tail game"

by the way, one of the most innovating and funny games ever created with human hands. worth its whole cash!! and i love the zaru-goods to collect :)

Just looked it up. It was released in 1996! That's a pretty late release. The images on PCECP aren't very inspiring, however. Looks really bland, to tell you the truth.

You guys are sure it's worth picking up?

Tatsujin

it's worth picking it up for several reasons:

1. superb and innovative game
2. one of the most wanted collectors item on the system
3. NEC masqot zaru
4. the hella fun
5. (space for further reasons)

5. It's by Gamefreak, talented creators of fantastic games like Drill Dozer, Pulseman, and Jerry Boy.         (and Pokemon.)

Oh, and a little bit about Gamefreak/Jerry Boy that I'm gradually working on...

Quote

Jerry Boy is a Nintendo Super Famicom platforming game that was released in September 1991 in Japan, and later that same year in the US, renamed Smartball. It is not a very well-known game (but it deserves to be!): The gaming press in Japan gave it decent reviews, with high scores and some raves. I don't remember what the US press wrote, but Super Play Magazine in the UK passed it off as "A run-of-the-mill platform game with only its blob-shaped hero to distinguish it from the crowd. Very average." They gave it a score of 54%, while rewarding a game like Dinosaurs ("Dyna Wars", actually) with a score of 83% in the same issue, lavishing praise on a game which I consider less imaginative and more run-of-the-mill than Jerry Boy.

So, what's so special about Jerry Boy, then? Well, not a lot, but it is fun to play. It brought the simplicity and playability of 8-bit Famicom games onto the 16-bit Super Famicom, at a time when its contemporaries were trying to become more complex and stylish (which is good in itself, but lacks the essence of what made the 8-bit era so fun.) I have written a short review of Jerry Boy below for those not familiar with the game.

Dang reading that Jerry Boy page I too remembered seeing it in EGM as "Jelly Bean".  Looked like the kind of silly thing I'd enjoy.

Never heard of it, but it looks like a SNES title worth picking up.
