I'd be interested to hear what Forum peeps current PC-E/TG-16 set-up is?

For me, I no longer have a CRT TV just an LCD one and all my consoles (PC-E, SFC, Saturn etc..) look terrible on the LCD TV, so what i've done is built a tiny Media PC which connects to my LCD TV via the DVI Socket.
I then run Magic Engine on the Media PC and the picture looks crisp. To play PC-Engine CD games I rip the CD games to ISO images and then mount them using Magic Disc Virtual Drive which also means there are no loading times. For a controller I use the Sega 'Virtua Stick High Grade' which is gorgeous and has all Sanwa buttons and stick.

I have all of my classic consoles connected to my projector.

It sits right next to my bed, so its optimal length for that short ass controller cable.

Pretty basic setup here - just a TurboDuo connected to a CRT television.

Same here. I've been using my Turbo Express too since Turbo D fixed the sound for it!

Actually you're playing them in glorius 240p upscaled to 720p.  No detail is added anywhere in the process meaning the image is still ultra-low definition.  Why do people think that if something is upscaled, it is as good as the native resolution?  Such as people who think DVDs upscaled to HD is actual competition for Blu-ray's image quality.

Turbografx-16 with CD attached to 27" Sony Trinitron. I also have a PC Engine Duo but I haven't had it modded yet so I'm using both. It's a tangled mess with both of those plus a Dreamcast, Playstation 2, and Atari 2600 in front of the tv.

Joe Redifer

Mine is TurboGrafx-16 + CD-ROM and all flavors of System Cards (except Game Express and v1.0) hooked to a 20-inch CRT TV.  Video is output via RGB mod to a RGB to Component transcoder and that component video is fed straight into the TV which then sends a light beam to meet my eyes which send the signal to my brain... all without any dot crawl or color smear!  For those who complain that the video signal is supposed to be a bit smeared, my right eye doesn't exactly see perfectly so it helps add a bit of fake smear so the developers' intentions are realized.  The audio is piped out via two "RCA" style cables which carry the left side audio and the right side audio on two completely separate and independent cables to my audio system where it produces the sweet sounds that massage my ear drums which send signals to my brain which translates it into Cadash music (no matter which game is played)

Here is are a couple of pictures to show you!

Note: That computer is not the one I regularly use.  It is a spare at best.

ccovell

No pics, but I keep all the systems stored away in large plastic bins along with games, etc.  Cables are in a large cardboard box, controllers in another...  :)

Usually I take out a system and hook it up to a 15" RGB monitor and/or stereo speakers.
If RGB is out of the question, I hook it up to our TV...

My setup is just my US Turboduo with the orange kisado converter.  It's all hooked up to a regular standard TV.  No way I'm I bothering hooking it up to a HDTV.  If I was going to do that I might as well just play Magic Engine on an LCD or something.  It would just be wierd to me.  I like a lot of the other setups people are using.

SuperDeadite

Just found this beauty a few days ago in a used electronics shop.  29'' Sony Trinitron HD-CRT.  Displays in 720p and 1080i for the 360, and all retro stuff is in beautiful SD.  It will even take RGB directly through the Sony AV-Multi port, I just need to hack togheather some cables when I have more time.

I have a region modded Duo R hooked to a 15" Samsung CRT. Its small but the picture looks better on this $100 twirp that it would on %99.9 of all the LCDs ever made so I'm sticking with it. I use one of those ADP extension cables and a CoreGrafx pad, usually.

I love the clarity of the crt monitors/tv's you guys have.  I don't know, but I like the way the scanlines on an sdtv filter the pixels.  That Sony Trinitron is nice!  I had a 17" trinitron for about 10 years.  Those are great monitors.

TurboXray

My SuperGrafx with the Super CDROM^2 attached. I have it hooked up to a little 20' SDTV. I have a 52" HDTV CRT set in the same room, but it makes the games look all pixelated. No good.

Bloufo

This is my messy setup, cable chaos and all.

Notice the PC Engine Duo sitting nearer than the rest of my systems. That damn controller cable is so short that I got no choice but to bring the Duo closer in. Next purchase -definately a controller extension cable.  lol

IMG

Since I only received my Duo only a few days ago, I've not had a chance yet to hook it up for larger screen gaming via my projector.
This is where that will happen.

Just a Duo-R that's a fixer at the moment, controller port needs to be soldered back in line and I need a new RCA AV cable cause the red jack peeled like a Twizzler which means half assed mono sound.

When I use that same cable on the Genesis and Neo Geo, there's no sound period.

QuoteThat damn controller cable is so short that I got no choice but to bring the Duo closer in.
 Yup that's Japan for ya.

That pretty much reflects a japanese gamer's playing space.

I have a white briefcase as my main system, hooked up to a 50" LG plasma. It gives a surprisingly good picture, but the RGB modded engine sat in front of the screen is very blocky through it?

Actually he was offensive before he said "no offense".  I think you owe him a free dinner as an apology.

NecroPhile

I'm not sure that even qualifies as offensive anyway; the image is unarguably distorted and wider than originally intended.  If I were being offensive, I would've added that only a stretched out dirty pirate hooker would play games in a stretched out fashion.

No, the screen is actually pretty good as far as that is concerned. This is in my "games" room, the room that keeps the peace between me and my girlfriend. She doesn't go in it, in exchange for me agreeing not to fill the rest of the house with consoles and guitars. Didn't seem much point buying a real high end screen just for gaming, this does the job just fine.

This is my current setup that I have been collecting in the basement.  The briefcase unit will be going ustairs after I fix the CDROM and region mod the CGII.  She's my new project  :o

Hi everyone, new user here, 1st post.
Here is my small but slowly growing PCE set up.

Supergrafx with Tototek 32mb flash, ASCII stick & 3 way tap,
Image Fight & Daisenpu Hucards - Hopefully more to come !
This is hooked up to a Panasonic LCD projector & looks surprisingly good over composite video.
The Megadrive looks quite bad over composite, NEC must have used better parts than Sega !
What's next ? - maybe a CD-Rom drive .

I'm pretty happy with my setup. I've got a TG-16 w/ multitap sitting next to my Duo-R sporting an awesome (rare) joystick (I forget the name, the one with all the buttons and doohickies and built in multitap). It's all hooked up to a big standard TV and a nice, kickin' game sound system with a respectable bass thump.

The fact that I have this, along with an Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Intellivision, Colecovision, Saturn, Atari XEGS, Odyssey 2, Arcadia 2001, Astrocade, Channel F, NES, SMS, Genesis, RCA Studio 2, Vextrex, and three Arcade games (along with a PC, a Laptop, and assorted routers) without causing a brownout is one of the Great Unsolved Mysteries of Northern California
