Thanks for the update. Looking forward to hearing more as it progresses.

I just grabbed a bunch, thanks a lot.

Which game is in the bottom right corner?

Quote from: guest on 11/10/2016, 09:24 AMIt's also up on my YouTube channel now.
I've been a subscriber for a while. What a great channel.

Quote from: Bernie on 11/10/2016, 07:46 AMWhich one did you need?  I have them in my DropBox.  Just send me a PM with a list, and I will get the links to you.
Hi, thanks. Is there no longer a way to download the whole set at once?
#7
I started listing to these, and they're awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Hi. Thanks for sharing these. I'm getting a 404 when I click on the link to download them. Are they still available as one compressed file?

This book was mentioned on the website Hardcore Gaming 101 a few days ago, and I'm considering getting it, but yeah, that price. Here's some more information:

https://www.unseen64.net/2016/09/19/video-games-you-will-never-play-unseen64-book/

If any of you get it, please let us know if it's worth buying. Thanks.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 09/21/2016, 10:15 AMSometimes if you soft reset the system when the sound chip is doing something it will get stuck making that sound partially. That's probably what you are hearing. It usually goes away when the next game loads. If not, it will after a power cycle.
Yeah, that seems to be what I've experienced. Thanks a lot for your input.

Quote from: tbone3969 on 09/16/2016, 01:10 PMThis is the best advice I've heard by far.  I would just add to get the one with AV out.  That's the CoreGrafx II.
Both the CoreGrafx and CoreGrafx II have AV out.

Thanks a lot for your help, Necromancer and crazydean.

Hi. This is something I've been wondering about for a while: When playing a CD game on my Duo, if I want to play a different game, is it better to soft reset the system (by simultaneously pressing Select and Run), and then inserting a new game and pressing Run, or is it better to completely power down the system and turn it back on? Sometimes when I soft reset a CD game, there's a minor sort of popping/crackling sound (from the TV, not the Duo itself), so I didn't know if it was bad for the system in any way.

Thanks for your help.
#15
Really excited to play this, thanks for all the updates. :D

Quote from: mj9123456 on 09/08/2016, 05:56 PMElmer, did you ever find out whether or not running the BIOS on the TED v1.2 is a problem?
Sorry, I've still not run a test.

When I eventually do, I really I don't think that it's going to show us any reason to avoid using the System Card 3 BIOS image on a TED v1 on a DUO.

People have been doing that for a while, and as far as I can tell, nobody has reported any problems.

It may be bad in an "academic" fashion, but it doesn't seem (so far) to be bad in a "practical" fashion.

The TED v2 with its random RAM contents on startup is a very different piece of hardware.
Thanks for letting me know.

Elmer, did you ever find out whether or not running the BIOS on the TED v1.2 is a problem?

Quote from: tbone3969 on 05/16/2016, 09:05 AMWow really.  That makes the investment in one even more worth it.  So I assume the Everdrive card has built in ram on it?
The memory on the TED v1 is FLASH, the memory on the TED v2 is RAM, that's what allows the TED v2 to act as a Super System Card. It also lets the TED v2 act as a memory expansion for homebrew/translations.

AFAIK the TED v2.4 is working fine in unmodified consoles, and in region-modded consoles where the region-mod is getting a high-enough voltage to actually switch quickly/cleanly.

It looks like cleaning your cartridge-slot pins to ensure a good connection may also be needed sometimes (and is a sensible thing to do occasionally, anyway).

IMHO, the TED v2.4 is the better buy at this time, but it may require you to do a bit of Spring Cleaning on your console to get it running.

If you have a TED, you don't actually need a region-mod at all to run both region's HuCard cards on it.

So an un-modified Japanese PCE Duo + TED v2 is the cheapest way to play all the HuCard and CD/SCD games these days.

You can just leave the TED v2 permanently installed and run the hacked System Card 3 image on it to run CD games (or the System Card 1 image to run Altered Beast).
Any updates on whether or not v1 is affected by running the unmodified BIOS? Thanks for all your hard work, by the way.
#20
I say get v1.2 if you can, as some systems seem to have odd problems with v2.4 (my PC Engine Duo is one such system).

http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=5067.0

The Krikzz site stopped selling v1.2 a couple months ago, but this eBay seller has some left:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Everdrive-PC-Engine-PCE-TG16-HuCard-Turbografx-16-US-Seller-/141906545812?hash=item210a4a0c94:g:Jl4AAOSwkNZUejJd

I wound up keeping my v1.2 and selling the v2.4 after certain games inexplicably glitched on the latter. Most people seem to have no issues with v2.4, though, so you should be fine either way.

Quote from: SamIAm on 05/08/2016, 11:52 AMYes, the option will be available. :)
Great news. It's always nice to have the option to play a game undubbed. Thanks.

Quote from: seieienbu on 05/04/2016, 06:24 PMWhen you guys release the translation patches, we'll have the option to Not use the English dub, right?

edit:  I'm not trying to be rude here, I'll definitely play the English dubbed version as well.  I just want the option to pick either.
I was actually going to ask the same question. I'm really looking forward to playing the game, thanks a lot for all your hard work.
#23
Any updates on v1? Is it likely affected in the same way as v2? Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your input.

I have some games ripped in CCD/IMG/SUB format. Every time I try to burn them using ImgBurn, I get the same error message: "Close Track Failed!  Device: [0:0:0] Optiarc DVD RW.....   Reason: Invalid Field in CDB." Any ideas why? I've read that ImgBurn can do these types of files. Thanks.

Quote from: NightWolve on 01/03/2016, 08:31 PMChances are, you might not find a modern drive for sale that goes lower than 10x and as was said, the write speed isn't that critical. You reduce the chance for skips with low speeds, but you're simply getting CD-Rs that don't work at all... Your drive is most likely not the problem. Try burning with my ImgBurn before dismissing the drive.

It goes like this: The lowest speed the CD-R and drive support is ideal. Using max speed is a bad idea. That's the principle. It's not locked in to 4x, 8x, 10x, etc. It's getting paranoid to go off and say try to find old drives that can burn as low as 1x or 2x, etc.
Hi. Thanks for your input. However, I never said I was getting CD-Rs that don't work at all. I'll try to burn a few at 10X and see how they work. I was just hoping to burn at 8X since that's what was recommended to me, and I figured it could reduce the likelihood of having problems while playing the game.
#27
FYI, I have a PC Engine Duo that I got from forum user Keith Courage. I'm using the type of discs he recommended, and I'm using Alcohol 120%. I haven't tried burning any games at 10X yet, as I was under the impression that 8X was ideal. Rather than wasting CDs, I figured I'd ask for a drive recommendation here. Since the drive I got today only goes down to 10X, I'm going to return it and get a different one.
#28
Hi. I want to burn some PC Engine CD backups, but the drive in my desktop won't write CD-Rs at 8X, nor will the external one I got in the mail today for that specific purpose (it won't go lower than 10X). I'll be using a SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 adapter to connect whichever drive I get to my desktop (it's a shared computer and I can't replace the main drive itself). Can someone please recommend a drive that can burn CD-Rs at 8x (and of a quality that'll work in my Duo)? Thanks.
#29
I stumbled on this video today. It's called "TurboGrafx 16 & TurboDuo Commercials," and I figured some of you might enjoy it.

I bought a recapped PC Engine Duo from Keith Courage recently, and it was an amazing experience. His communication was great, and he answered my many questions, packed everything super carefully, and delivered an amazing product. An absolute pleasure.

Thanks everyone.
#32
Is there any harm in leaving it in the slot of my PC Engine Duo while playing CD games that don't use it?
#33
Quote from: guest on 12/08/2015, 01:23 PMThe seller replied with a thank you. But he neither altered the description nor did he took the listing down yet.
Yeah, he/she replied to me, too, but the listing is still the same. Bizarre.

Quote from: mj9123456 on 12/04/2015, 11:44 PMElmer, any word from Krikzz on the information you need?
As I've said, I no longer own a TED1, so I can't do any tests myself, but I can create a test ROM that will let you know if there's a "serious" problem ... if someone wants to run it.
What will running it entail? Will I risk damaging my system or Everdrive?

Quote from: Vimtoman on 11/25/2015, 11:25 AMTested the new Bios by elmer and works great with Turbo Everdrive V2.4 but not with V1.1.
I'm glad that it worked for you. It's a minor patch ... it really shouldn't cause any problems.

But there may be some other games (apart from Gate of Thunder) that write to the System Card memory that will need specific handling, so if anyone finds a game that crashes, I'd like to know so that I can find a fix.

The current patch definitely won't work with a TED v1 ... the TED1 doesn't have any RAM, so this patch will just cause any SuperCD games to fail if it is used on a TED1.

We'll have to wait for KRIKzz to respond to the message on his forum before anything can be done (if needed) for the TED1.
Sounds good. Please keep all of us v1 users posted!

Brilliant work mate.
Wondering if that means it's not necessary on v1.

Quote from: Vimtoman on 11/24/2015, 06:03 AMNo point on a Duo-R Duo or Super cdrom2 as they are already have V3.00.
If you load up the original bios onto a V2 everdrive it works, the rams already there.
I use it like this all the time as it saves taking the Everdrive out.

I guess this is only worth doing for any setup that is not native V3.00.
NO!!! Please do NOT do this!!!

Some information has come to light recently that strongly suggests that doing this is a VERY-BAD-THING™.

All indications are that running an un-modified Super System Card image on the TED2 will cause bus-fighting between the TED2 and the built-in 192KB of SCD RAM.

It looks like the SCD RAM wins the fight, and that it works ... but you are putting unusual stresses on both the built-in RAM chip and the TED2's RAM/level-shifters.  That is a bad thing, and may well lead to premature failure of either the TED2 or the console itself.

The patch that I've done fixes the problem so that there is no bus-fighting, and so that it is safe to use the TED2 to run CD games.

It is actually more important for DUO/DUO-R/SuperCDROM owners to use the patch than it is for Briefcase owners to take advantage of the ability to use it as a Super System Card.

See this thread in the Development Section for details of the problem ...

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=20009.msg433149#msg433149

And this thread for the patch itself (now for both Japanese and USA Super System Cards) ...

QuoteI have a briefcase and V2.4 card to test.
That would be great, I'll PM you.

P.S. It is possible that KRIKzz worked-around this issue in his hardware ... but all the indications lead to the conclusion that he's not done this. After all ... the card was never designed for, or meant for, running CD games.
Does this apply for v1 as well?

Thanks for the answers, very helpful.

I just got a restored PC Engine Duo, and I have a few questions about how to use it. (I can't find any documentation or tutorials online.) I've had a CoreGrafx for a while, so I know the basics, but I've never used a Duo before.

1. Do I have to remove whatever game is in the HuCard slot in order to play a CD game?
2. Am I able to save data from certain HuCard games to the Duo's save memory? If so, how?
3. How do I edit the save data on the system? For example, if I want to delete save files.

Thanks.
#42
What are your 5 favorite games for the system? CD, HuCards, ranked, unranked -- however you feel like answering the question. I'm fairly new to the library, and I'd love to hear what all you PC Engine experts/devotees have at the top of your lists. Thanks.
#43
I can pay via PayPal, or I can trade a Joy Tap, the PC Engine three-player multitap (similar to the one in the link below, but with THREE ports instead of five). It was cleaned and works correctly. I'm in the U.S.

Quote from: guest on 11/04/2015, 12:16 PMHmmm, I have a doujindance Duo R. Bought it as my first system and the s-video (installed later on) and the basic composite on it work great. Has a region switch too. I was hoping the RGB would work for when that time came, but sadly that isn't getting the job done and it's not working properly.

BUT since you said you are looking to play a Duo R without RGB, this may not be a bad idea for me. Would you be interested in my Duo R? The laser was just recently changed and works great. Has the box with it too. Then I could use that money to get a better RGB modded PCE. I love the Duo R look, but I'd rather be playing in RGB :)

Sorry, half of this was for you and half of this was me thinking out loud, lol.
Is the recapping supposed to last indefinitely, or will it eventually become a problem? Just curious if it's worth it for me to explore a used recapped one.

How much are you looking to get, and where are you located?
#47
So if I decide to go with a Doujindance model, I can plug it right into my CRT through the regular red, yellow, and white jacks?

Quote from: ccovell on 11/03/2015, 07:11 PMUnlikely.

(now for the ee's who disagree, time to put in the time for board/mcc layout.)
Do you think it's unlikely because it's not possible, or because not enough people would buy one, or what?
#49
From what I gather, no one's gotten very far (or put in much work) on an SD-card or HDD option for the Turbo/PC Engine CD -- something similar to the GDEMU or PSIO. Does anyone have information about a project in the works? Or is this unlikely to ever happen?
