So I'm pretty much selling off everything right now. Already sold off my DS, next up is the PS2. Still have a PS1, a Wii, and an Xbox 360 to prepare for sale. Most of these will be open to offers.

Anyone here want it? I'd rather not list it on fleabay if I can help it... would rather one of y'all good people get first dibs. Not sure what they run for these days, and I don't use evilbay as a price guide. I wouldn't sell it if I didn't need the money. It does't have any games with it but it runs CDRs just fine and I've used it for some basic homebrewing. One controller and A/V cables included. I can take pics if need be; it's in pretty dang good shape and I don't really notice any yellowing.

Now that the first two runs have sold out, this is the perfect time to introduce the THIRD EDITION of MSR! Yes, third edition! This version will have much better graphics, is four times the size of the original game, and utilizes the SuperGrafx and ACD hardware when available! It also runs on the PC-FX for added awesomeness!

...and if you believe any of this, I'm sorry... this is a joke. There is not going to be another pressing of this game. I'm not WaterMelon. :P

Mods, feel free to remove this post. :)

I think that this is the lowest price I've ever put it up for. Trying to clear out the remaining inventory, and once this sale is over, that's it for this run. There will not be a third edition of this game, nor will there be any ports or conversions from me.

Been looking for documentation on this but haven't found much. Anyway, what I need to know is how many cycles need to pass between stopping ADPCM playback and starting a new one. They can't be used back-to-back on real hardware (works fine on emulators, naturally), so there is clearly some kind of latency issue I need to take into consideration. I can't test this for real as I don't have real hardware at the moment, so I figured one of y'all might know how much time I need to let pass before telling the ADPCM circuit to play another sample.

I still have hundreds of copies of MSR and can't get rid of them so I'm putting them out at a ridiculous price.

This is a functional demo for the PC-FX. This is a converted version of Asteroid Challenge for the PCE, released about four years ago to test the METRO shooter engine for the project that eventually became Einzelganger... though unfortunately we have not made any progress on that in years. The only thing that remains of it is some concept art and this shooter demo. Anyway, this has been tested on a real PC-FX machine, so you can actually burn a copy and run it on the real thing.

So I figured I should probably make an "official" thread for this, considering how far along it's come. This is a game originally developed by Studio Piña back in 2011 apparently as a homage to the MSX. I am not sure of the details of what happened between then and now, but somehow, Gregarious Games LLC picked it up, along with its artist, Keith Erickson. Anyway, I had been in contact with a gentleman named Anthony Di Masi, who was looking for a coder to work on a project. I agreed to do it, but he said that I would not be needed for some time, so I just went back to work on Lucretia for the time being. A few months ago, however, John Lester (some of you might know him as Gamester81) decided that Sydney Hunter needed a PCE port. Anthony had been working with John on another project, The Adventures Of The Tiny Knight, and recommended me to John to take up the reins of a PCE conversion. Well, we worked out a deal, they sent me the assets, and I started production. Originally, this was meant to be just a HuCard game, but John inquired about a possible CD version as well, using Benjamin Allen's arranged soundtrack. I told him that it should work, but that I was going to focus on the HuCard version first and then convert to CD.

So yeah, that's the backstory as far as my tired brain remembers it, hahah. Anyway, I have posted screenshots in an unrelated thread prior to this, but figured this needed its own thread as to not pollute other threads.

frozenutopia.com/hunter-0034.png

These are the shots I posted before; just reposting them here.

frozenutopia.com/hunter-0041.png

This is an actual gameplay image, as early as it is. There is no HUD nor any enemies or lighting effects yet... that all comes later once I have nailed down the player FSM and all collision algorithms, which so far have been 100% functional. One interesting thing about this game is that each room (yes, this is a screen-by-screen game) can have one of three different lighting schemes... fully-lit, half-lit, or dark. In fully-lit rooms, things are as you see in the above shot (though technically, that particular room should be half-lit). In half-lit rooms, all the areas outside of Sydney's torch range are dimmed. In dark rooms, all you can see is what's within the range of his torch. Rooms that have wall torches or lava flow are always fully-lit, and any room that was not previously fully-lit will become so if the lava flow reaches it.

frozenutopia.com/hunter-0042.png

This shot was taken a bit later, and I was using debug text for position checking. Climbable vines are everywhere in this game. Also, this game has a rather nifty feature, which is climbable ropes that extend between two uneven platforms. Sydney will climb across them when going up but slide on them with his boomerang when going down. Little touches like that make things more interesting, I think.

Now, this game is still a ways off, and I will be sure to post more screenies when they are available. Priority was given to the SNES and NES conversions, and that's what the Kickstarter campaign was based on, so I am pretty much on my own in regards to this conversion. The game engine I have developed for this game was built from scratch; I did not convert any of my previous game engines for it. That ended up being a good thing, as this has the most accurate collision routines I have ever coded, and also features variable jumping (jump height determined by how long you hold the jump button for, up to a max height), a feature missing from quite a few games from yesteryear (such as Exile). All in all, this is turning out to be a great little conversion. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to share demo builds with the community as per my contract with Gregarious Games, but it says nothing of screenshots or videos...

I hate to sell this but I need to lighten the load before I move... AGAIN... and I need to scrape together all the funding I can get. So I'm unloading this on y'all here before I go off to evilbay. :P

What you see is what you get. Everything works. The disc drawer sometimes gets stuck while closing but it's easily closed just by pushing it to the left a little. The A/V cable is brand new... I bought it before I moved to SC and had it shipped here.

I'd like $40 plus shipping for the whole lot.

Supposedly, there is an error with the bm_delete() library function. I don't know enough about the underlying code to figure out where the issue is, and I have not used it yet so I don't know its symptoms.

OK so I've had a LOT of people asking me if I would do a second pressing of MSR. It's not something I've really given any serious consideration to until now, as Keranu is just about out of them as well.

Just a simple repress wouldn't be sufficient though; if I was to send this to press a second time, I would make some improvements. The game has a couple of flaws in it that were not caught during the beta test phases which I would fix, and I'd probably make a few other changes as well.

Thoughts?

You'll never see it sold this cheap ever again. $12.95 with free standard shipping to the USA. The reason they are going so cheap is because the manuals and/or inlay cards are imperfect due to damage during the initial shipment from the factory. Every last one of them is a rebox. The discs are all in perfect working order; none of the discs themselves were damaged. There were only 16 of these, and some have already sold.

Mysterious Song II: Eternal Silence - A First Look At The New Epic RPG
I've been working on it on and off for some time now, but only during downtime in Lucretia's development. Lucretia is my priority right now, but since I can't ever sit idle, I started this to fill the time voids. I know I said I'd never do another RPG, but there's just no helping it; RPGs are what I do best, and this project allows me to use my full potential as both a writer and a PCE coder.
#27
Piko Interactive LLC has picked up a license to convert Mysterious Song to the SNES. It will more than likely get a graphical facelift with the tiles and sprites, although I'm not sure how well they will be able to match Paranoia Dragon's audio genius. It'll obviously lose the voices in the cutscenes, but games like Phantasy Star IV managed cutscenes without them so I'm sure it'll be alright regardless. They have talented developers so it'll be a good conversion. They also plan to do versions for mobile and Wii U.

OK so we were trying to figure out a song in a game from the 90s... one of those "adult" Qix clones... it was singing about "everybody move your body". Well, I found that it's called "Let's All Chant" and it comes from Miss World '96 (Nude). It's originally by The Michael Zager Band, but this does not seem to be their version, and the song has been remade at least 20 times. If you know the specific version of that song, or can help identify any of the other songs, you would be totally awesome. :D

Lucretia - Demon Princess is a horizontal shooter inspired by Magical Chase. It is the spiritual sequel to Eponasoft's previous release, Paradox Girl, using some of the same characters. The basic idea was to create an entire game based on Paradox Girl's shooter sequences. Equuskia is once again a character in the game (in her Castle outfit from Paradox Girl), although she is now joined by Reina (who was "Cici" in Paradox Girl), Zamy, and Rhianna (two new characters). Each of the four ladies represents one of the four elements.

The game is rather unorthodox in how it controls. Much like Sidearms, you can fire in both directions, and enemies will come from both directions. However, in Lucretia, you can decide how the game controls... it has three schemes available. The default scheme uses II as the fire button and I as a "direction lock"... that is, when you hold I, the direction you're facing in is frozen, allowing you to move backwards and continue firing in the direction you're facing in. There is also a "direction toggle" scheme, which uses the I button to switch directions. The last scheme is the same as in Sidearms, utilizing both II and I for directional fire. Also, the game is set up for two-player co-op, and either player can pause the game. There is a Pause menu where you can switch control schemes at will. Only the player who paused the game can unpause the game.

...ugh... this game really is as terrible as they say it is. From the very first moments of gameplay... if the horrible character sprites and animations and disgustingly underdetailed and washed-out backgrounds don't irritate you, the terrible hit detection and nauseating sound effects most certainly will. And then, if you need to continue, you have to start the fucking level over again. BOO. You suck. However, I discovered a way to turn the game's shitty flaws against it and chump the fuck out of any boss, even Death Adder himself... the running tackle against the right side of the screen, when executed as the enemy is starting to get up, will hit *every time*... 100% chance of hitting, no chance of being countered if done right. It only works against the right side though, never against the left. Death Adder is exceedingly cheap and this is a great way to out-cheap him. Of course, maneuvering him into a compromising position is tough since he has those stupid ground wave things that will follow you around no matter where you are, and once he starts swinging his axe, he just doesn't stop until he knocks you out or he gets knocked down himself. Worst character AI ever.

So now I've seen all three character endings... and they all suck too. After the monstrosity of shit that the gameplay is, I was hoping the endings would be worth watching... but alas, they are not.

This game truly is a stain not only on the PCE's legacy but also on the legacy of Golden Axe. Telenet should be ashamed of such an abomination. For those of you who say "it's not that bad"... bollocks. If this is what you call "not bad", let's see what you consider "bad"... because this is one of the worst games I've ever sat through. Even Shape Shifter isn't this bad.

Yeah... time for another crazy-ass project idea of mine. It's not directly PCE-related so I figured I'd put it here for everyone to laugh at.

So the idea is to take an arcade PCB and turn it into a console. Sure, people have done this with the MVS time and time again, but not me... and I'm not converting an MVS either. For this, I'm going to use a converted suicide board... Mitchell/Capcom's "Poker Ladies". Why? Coz I love that game. :P

So I've got the plan already... I will use a rigged Delta DPS-160QB A power supply which was pulled out of a broken PC that magically appeared in my mother-in-law's car one evening. Hopefully the power supply still works, as it's tiny and will work great for this.

/plcp001.jpg

Using this site as a general wiring guide, I've partially prepared the PSU for the project. I will pick up a switch today that I can attach between a ground wire and the green wire to signal the mofo to turn on. For load, I have a 12V DC fan, as pictured above. The site gives the details for adding a power LED with a 330 ohm resistor between the gray and a black wire... that will be the "power on" indicator.

The PCB requires a -5V input. Well, this PSU only has -12V. So, I can likely deploy a 7905 regulator and make sure that sucka's heatsinked properly. However, thesteve and bust3r seem to be in disagreement as to the amount of amperage the -5V source requires... thesteve says that this power supply's 100mA is adequate, but bust3r says that the PCB should be given at least 500mA. Well, fortunately, it just so happens that I have another small power supply (though not quite as small) kicking around here that has -12V at 500mA, just in case this doesn't work.

For video signal, the PCB outputs 15kHz CGA. BlueBMW is going to supply me with one of these so the machine can put out a VGA signal. He says that the board he has doesn't have a power supply. Well, that's ok, I should be able to use this existing power supply to run that too.

The fun part... the controls. The documentation is a bit wishy-washy as to the wiring matrix, but I'll get that figured out eventually. The other fun part is the casing itself. bust3r suggests that the PCB is about 12x16 inches. Finding ready-made plastic cases that large is a nightmare, and having one custom-made is out of the question. So what else can I use? ...how about wood! I'm damn good with woodcrafting, and since arcade cabs are wood already, the PCB will feel right at home.

Back to the controller temporarily. I want to make this seem like a real console, so the controller will be independent of the console and will plug into it like any other console does it. I haven't decided on a plug interface just yet though. There are eight main buttons, plus the coin sense... I do believe that I will put them all on the controller.

So yeah... that's the rough plan. So... crazy or not? :D
