Got 3 or 4 comments on my Turbo video so far from Kanye fans and maybe 200 new views. Shit is spreading like wildfire and it's out of control. There are now more Kanye fans who are now Turbo fans than us REAL Turbo fans who have dibs on everything Turbo. Fuck it, I'm banning Aaron.

TheClash603

My girlfriend only listens to top 40 music and Kanye is one of the few artists on her stations I actually kind of enjoy.  I must've been connecting with his obey-ness on a subliminal level for years now, I am okay with this.

People don't get banned here. lol

Serious note, I doubt this will do much but make the "buy it now" higher for a few weeks until the posted time runs out and no one pays the extra #Kanye fee.

Good one! Yeah, I was real surprised when I heard this, my first natural reaction was, "Oh great, now I gotta change my opinion on this jerk ?" There's obvious novelty to learn someone so famous was a PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 fan, but I would've preferred if it wasn't this embarrassing, obnoxious jerk. I think South Park already answered the question of why he's a jerk and/or worthy of criticism, that point doesn't need to be defended...

QuoteHowever, the sheer variety of versions that hit the market left consumers confused. At least 17 distinct core models made their way to game shops through the 90s. There were handheld versions like the Turbo Express and the PC Engine GT, base console revisions including the Core Grafx, SuperGrafx and PC Engine Shuttle, and all manner of expansion cards and add-ons. And then there were CD-Roms.

I was super confused in the 90's, by consoles like the Super Grafx and PC Engine Shuttle. I took a wrong turn at Albequrque, ended up in Tokyo, and was like, what are all these options?!?

Indeed. The natural progression of items marketed OVER TIME (organic evolution) is very different than ALL PRODUCTS EVER RELEASED.

I can't imagine how confusing SEGA's offerings in the 80's and 90's  would be for this author.

When you go by the stretching standards that people use to make the PC Engine line seem massive and confusing, the SNES and Genesis quickly catch up and the Sega line goes much further than the Turbo/PCE combined.

SNES hardware:

2 NTSC models for North America -square carts only
2 NTSC models for Japan -round carts only
1 PAL model for Europe/Australia -round carts only
1 PAL-M model for Brazil -square carts only

Game formats with various video speeds: Square carts, Round carts, Gameboy carts, Satellaview roms.

And although SNES fans like to say that extra chips in carts bitd doesn't count as hardware addons, just try playing most of the popular games on a standard flash cart and you'll be disappointed by how many don't work on the main hardware. There's probably a dozen different chip/misc addons that are functionally unique formats.

With PCE, you only need to worry about HuCards (2 regions), CD2, SCD and ACD. LaserActive is arguably a standalone platform like SuperGrafx.

The Genesis line has the following game formats: Sega Mark III carts, SMS carts, Sega My Cards, Genesis-shaped carts, Japanese MD shaped carts, Sega-CD, 32X carts, 32X CD, Mega Modem games, Sega Channel games.

When you add in all of the regional lockouts and video variations, there's probably as many as 30 - 40 formats and more hardware variations than any console to date.

The 80's/90's was a bad time to be an easily confused person.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

o.pwuaioc

Or, you're intentionally obfuscating things by including backwards compatibility as something to "worry" about. No one would have confused Master System and Genesis, especially in the American markets, because the two were long delineated. And to mention regional variations is a ploy and nothing more. At best, mid-90s Genesis might have added confusion with the introduction of the 32X, but that's it. No one was "confused" by a different Brazil system in the US, and the only people who cared about Japanese consoles were those who were importing and therefore presumably already had the knowledge about the systems. And chips on carts don't count since Everdrives were *not* on the market.

The journalist may be way exaggerating how confusing the Turbgrafx was in the US, but in Japan it was far more confusing than any console either before or after. To say otherwise is just sticking your head in a sand.

Instead of this disingenuous denial and tu quoques, why not embrace it? NEC was dedicating to bringing out the best of the best for its customers, and until the Supergrafx a regular PC Engine and PC Engine CD/Turbografx-16 and Turbo CD needed to play the revised games were special cards. Not great, but certainly better than the 32X BS that Sega pulled.

No one can deny that there are way more revisions for NEC's line of consoles than any of the competitors at the time. It's not only easy but even understandable that some consumers would be overwhelmed with options, and to make fun of them for that is just dickish.

The problem is, the journalist put out the idea that the confusion is why the TG-16 failed versus the Sega Genesis. In the region where the most confusion would occur, Japan, the PC Engine beat the Mega Drive hands down. So, the argument fails on both fronts in this article.

This is really reaching...

There is only one SNES. It plays everything. The *shape* of the fucking cart...for crying out loud, does not make it a different system or add "confusion". Anything you can cram in there will run, leaving aside PAL/NTSC issues that affect everything.

Yeah, I don't think o.pwuaioc even bothered to read the article on which BT was commenting.

Also, I don't see how anyone would've been confused by most of the hardware versions back in the day, seeing as they were simple hardware revisions meant to replace old designs and not marketed concurrently.  Besides the normal core systems, cd add-ons, and duos, there's few outliers.  People looking to buy premium stuff like the LT, LA, PC-KD, etc. knew what they were getting into; the GT was obviously a handheld version of the console, thus not even remotely confusing; the SGX would've been a disappointment when it failed to get support, but there's nothing confusing about what it was or where it fit in the system hierarchy; which leaves just the Shuttle to confuse people, but only if they ignored how it was being marketed to 'casual gamers' (a.k.a. kids) and physically wouldn't fit any existing add-ons.

TheClash603

I agree with the fact that PC-Engine has a confusing amount of systems and configurations.  The amount of people that sign up for this forum and lead with the question of which system to get is proof of that.  You have to also think that the average consumer is not the same type of person who is on a video game forum.  I have many friends that still don't understand the difference between a Wii and a Wii U for example.

With that said, in the U.S. the TG-16 was more simplified.  The only things in the U.S. which shouldve been legitimately confusing to the average consumer are "does the base system play CDs?" And "which CDs would work with a 2.0 and 3.0 card."

The SNES is undeniably a simple machine, every game that came out in the U.S. played on one box with no extra hardware needed (nor was it even available).  Comparing the Genesis is much more fair when saying multiple configurations can be successful...  but at the end of the day it was the base Genesis that drove sales even after all the other shit came out.  Most people who owned a Genesis never bought any add-on.  With the TG-16 it was the add-on itself (turned main unit via the Duo) which became the selling point.

Ok, stupid, listen. You're a racist asshole that groups all music made by blacks into a common vein. I didn't say it that way before because you sounded like a dumb old man but now that you're actually going to try to own your stupid-ass comment I'm calling you out for real. Also, I looked at your profile and aparently you're in your 30s so I can only conclude you're originally from the Midwest and just don't know WFT time it is. If you were here when this forum started, I can assume you'd be posting pictures of spears and voodoo masks instead of guns.

Kanye is as gangster as the Old Spice Guy...wait, he's black now too, that'll just confuse you. Let's say he's as gangster as David Spade. Oh shit, did it again. Dave Coulier. He's as gangster as Dave Coulier.  He's not even slightly gangster. At all. You're confusing him with...honestly, I have no idea what you're confusing him with because I can't imagine what your background is. I'll wager that if you've bought any music in the last decade it was probably a Poison's Greatest Hits CD from Walmart.

*Was* he ever gangster, sure, 15 years ago, back when that shit actually paid the bills, before he recorded anything. Now he's known as the jerk that crashes the Grammys if the same three people aren't winning the award every year, the idiot that invented leather jogging pants, the guy that...he's just an insane millionaire asshole that sells more records than anyone because people who like to suck millionaire dick also only buy one CD every other year. Gangster is as far off his radar as personal restraint, self awareness, or knowing how to behave around other people. He's a grade A dick bag in every single way, much much worse than you, obviously, but not gangster. Martin Scorsese is gangster, Quenton Tarentino is gangster, El Chapo is gangster, Donald Trump is gangster. Frank Sinatra was *very* gangster. Kanye is a pop star.

IMG

Run in fear of this gangster.
IMG

SignOfZeta

Now that I think of it, as much as I'd like to credit indie rap for the change in climate, Kanye is probably more responsible for gangster rap dying out almost completely in the last decade or so than anything. By avoiding it and being as huge as anyone has ever been he's sorta proved its not needed.

I gotta admit in the early 90s I was confused about all the talk about PC Engine/CoreGrafx/SuperGrafx etc. In a way it added to the mystic for NEC's consoles, which led me to where I am now to be part of this community.
