@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Quote from: Pcenginefx on 06/11/2009, 11:50 AMOn the flip side, I know that I'll have to shell out some kind of $ to "convert" (or whatever program Sony offers for UMD->Digital Copy trade-up) but I'll probably only do that for the most played games in my collection.
not sure.  it's possible that sony might include a feature for this in a future firmware update.  sony hasn't been one to needlessly milk cash from consumers, for the most part.  they're the only hardware manufacturer who isn't region locking games.  they started an initiative to ensure that all blue ray movies have a digital copy included for free (buy a movie and it works for your ps3 and psp).  they allow developers to include "remote play" in ps3 games so that they also double as psp games.  and i'm sure there're more examples.  i wouldn't put it past them to provide a disc-to-digital conversion application for free.  we can only keep a positive outlook for now :)

the thing is, sony wants (and needs) to make money.  by giving away a conversion application for free, they're encouraging and justifying many more people to upgrade from their current psp to a new go! model.  the amount of revenue they'll make by selling more $200+ go!'s is significantly greater than the money they'd make selling a conversion application.

haha, sorry about that, buddy.  here you go:

QuoteWhat happens when the internal space for games is used up?
the system takes a memory stick micro and treats it just like an add on to the internal storage.  so, technically, storage space is near infinite.

QuoteIs this a replacement for the older psps or something that will coincide with them.
not a replacement.  they will still produce and sell the 3000 model.
#7
QuoteWhat happens when the internal space for games is used up? I doubt sony will allow copying to memory sticks and backups, and even if they do it's the same problem as the wii with it's initial policy of internal memory only for download games. Will developers cut content to keep the size of their games down in an attempt to not hog internal storage? Is this a replacement for the older psps or something that will coincide with them.

i think the best we can do is relate it to a comparison between sf2 on both systems.  both sf2 and final fight are from the same dev house.  both games originally ran on the same cps1 arcade hardware (respectively).  thinking along those lines would likely lead to a close imagination of how final fight might have turned out on the pc engine.

this is too rad.  i can't believe these shooters that i thought for surely would stay in japan are actually coming over.  it is unfortunate, though, that publishers only seem content to localize those that have well-worn "franchise" names attached to them (i.e. raiden).  they need to get on the horse and bring over:

- do don pachi daioujou black label extra
- deathsmiles
- shikigami no shiro III
- mushihimesama futari
- shooting love, 200X
- mamoru-kun wa norowarete shimatta*
- ketsui kizuna jigoku tachi extra*
- otomedius g! (edit oops, just realized i forgot this one)

too much goodness being held back!

(* these are still pre-release in japan)

holy junks...
i'm getting one.
(it's not only a portable, it's also a home console - comes with av cables that seem to be a synch for direct output to a tv.)

do you know if there's a feature/hardware difference between the black and white model?  the site you linked has them listed for marginally different prices, and the boxes in the images are different.  i can't seem to find any differences in the long features lists and overviews, though.
#13
rad story, indeed.
though the outcome is definitely exactly as i would expect from any human being actually playing the games and not just looking at them, or barely sampling them before writing them off.

snatched myself salamander portable for psp.
this compilation of hotness includes:

- salamander
- salamander 2
- japanese version of life force
- xexex
- msx version of gradius 2

amazing stuff.  the only one of those games i had ever had opportunity to play before was salamander, so this disc is pure joy for me.  salamander 2 is mind-blasting.  simply amazing.  i can't believe that they part with this load of goodness for only 35 bones (play-asia.com).  i won't be the one to tell them that i ripped them the funk off, though

Quote from: CosMind on 05/15/2009, 12:39 PMconfirmed?  i have the option to snatch up either the japanese version or the north american version.  i'd prefer to get the na version so that all the menu/options text is legible, but if it doesn't retain vertical display support then i'd rather go with the japanese version (i'm sure i can deal with the untranslated menus).
Its North American publisher's website states that it supports "full-screen vertical scrolling on a rotated display".
perfect, thanks!

Quote from: gekioh on 05/15/2009, 01:27 PM...are these remixes of Raiden I and II or completely different  and original shooters or what. And is it from the same Raiden series or just has the same name by coincidence...
no, the raiden fighters games aren't remixes of the "regular" raiden games.  they have their own unique game play systems and mechanics.  the fighters games have much richer game play overall than the regular raiden games.  multiple ships to choose from, each offering opportunity for differing play style; a different method of level progression; a more meaningful weapon change (i.e. "powerup") system; and more.

that being said, there are still enough similar systems and mechanics to the regular raiden games that they are warranted being part of the raiden series (so their names are not just coincidental).

the boss design is also fantastic.  especially the ones that act almost as self contained "scenes" that play out as you progress through their life.

this is an amazing pack.  raiden fighters jet alone would be worth the tag.  it's my favorite game in the raiden series by a long shot.
getting the first and second game packed in with it is amazing bonus.

hopefully, this is a start of a trend of all the 360 shooters from japan getting localized (there are tons of rad ones already out there, and even more coming).

Quote from: Ninja Spirit on 06/23/2007, 12:42 PMOne thing that annoys me about the Twinbee games is that Twinbee options make things tougher sometimes in respect to the colored bell system.
to me, that's one of the play mechanics that makes the games unique and quite interesting.  it introduces a level of balance to the power up system that isn't present in many (if any) other shooters.  i find it quite engaging to have to actually focus on and opportunistically manage the bells in order to accomplish whatever my particular goal with them is at any time.  it's an awesome multitasking system.  especially gratifying if you're playing for score and not just to get through the game.

(talk about resurrecting a crusty old thread :P )

so, what would you say is the very best of the best bomberman games on pce?  first and foremost, which has the very tightest and responsive controls?  i know they're relatively close to one another, but there must be some subtle difference tucked away in one of them that puts it on the ace.  outside of control, as an overall package, which is the very best?

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the big show....
Official Toys R Us B2G1 FAQ
Date of Sale: Sunday, October 12th - Saturday, October 18th 2008
In an effort to help the gaming masses, this FAQ will try to answer
all questions you may have about this year's Toys R Us sale. It will
also help you out in getting more bang out of your buck, how returns
and exchanges will be handled, and any other interesting tidbits you
may need answered. Any questions, comments, concerns, issues, gripes
can be made here.
The Sale
Buy any two video games from anything in stock, and get a third game
for free. The free game will either be the cheapest one, or the third
game of three games with the same price point.
Is the sale online?
Yes, but until the deal goes online I do not know if there will be
restrictions based on system or price point.
Is the deal available in Canada?
Sorry Canuckers
So if I buy three $60 games, I get a $60 game for free?
Yes, you can pick up any three games, at any price point. If three
games are the same price the third one rang up at the register will be
the free one.

Can I only get three games?
No, you can get as many games as you want, in multiples of three, and
you will get a third free for every two you buy.
Can I mix and match my three games?
Yes, you can choose between all available systems for your three
games. Example, you can buy two PS3 titles and one Wii title and get
the least expensive one free.

What about bundled games (ex. DMC Triple Pack) of games that come with
an accessory (ex. Guitar Hero)?
These games are also a part of the sale. As long as the product comes
with video game software, no matter the price, it will count for the
sale. The only exclusion will be the Wii Zapper.
But a game that comes out the 14th is what I really want, what about that?
Any game that comes out during the week of the sale will be part of
the sale. For games that come out after the sale, see the Placeholder
section of the FAQ.
Can I preorder a game as one of my games?
No. Unlike a Gamestop, you cannot fully put money down on future
titles, only a small, $5 deposit. Games that come out after the 20th
of October are not part of the sale.
How the Deal works at the register
(PAY ATTENTION IF YOU ARE CHANCING A RETURN)
Example one, three games, different prices.
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Dead Rising $59.99
000000000000 NDS Nintendogs Dalmation $29.99
When the three games get rung up, this is how they look on your
receipt before the deal is taken off.
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Dead Rising $59.99
000000000000 NDS Nintendogs Dalmation $0.00
After the Total key is hit, the game that is the cheapest will go to
$0.00. Does not matter the order it is rung, the cheapest one always
comes off.

Example two, three games same price
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Lego Star Wars 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Valkyrie Profile 2 $49.99
Once again, before the Total key is hit.
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Lego Star Wars 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Valkyrie Profile 2 $0.00
When there are three games with the same price, the third game in the
list will ALWAYS be the one that comes off as free.

Example three, six games or more, different prices
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Lego Star Wars 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Valkyrie Profile 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Dead Rising $59.99
000000000000 NDS Nintendogs Dalmation $29.99
Before Total is hit.
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Lego Star Wars 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Valkyrie Profile 2 $0.00
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Dead Rising $59.99
000000000000 NDS Nintendogs Dalmation $0.00
When six games or more are bought, the system looks at games three at
a time, depending in which order they were scanned, from top to
bottom. Here we see that the third $49.99 game scanned, and the $29.99
game came off. It is very crucial that you pay attention to the order
that the games are being scanned in when purchasing six or more
titles.

Example four, odd amount of games purchased
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Lego Star Wars 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Valkyrie Profile 2 $49.99
000000000000 NDS Nintendogs Dalmation $29.99
Before the Total key
000000000000 PS2 Madden 2007 $49.99
000000000000 X360 Lego Star Wars 2 $49.99
000000000000 PS2 Valkyrie Profile 2 $ 0.00
000000000000 NDS Nintendogs Dalmation $29.99
The register system will always look at the three most expensive
games, making the free one out of that set. If you purchase an odd
number of games, you do not have to worry if one of them is priced a
lot lower then the ones you want for the sale.
Paying attention and knowing this stuff is incredibly important when
you are buying multiples of games, and "placeholder" titles for mid
week releases.

Return Policy
TRU's video game return policy is 45 days, unopened with a dated
receipt or gift receipt. If the game is opened, it can only be
exchanged with the same title. No exceptions.
Due to how the deal is rang up, the games that do not come up free can
be returned or exchanged for it's full value. The game that rings up
free cannot be returned or exchanged because it has no value, only if
it is defective can it be exchanged for the same title. Make sure the
free game is something you want, or you are pretty much boned.

TRU's M-Rated Policy
Toys R Us has a very strict policy towards M rated software. A very
small selection of M rated titles are in view on the floor, the rest
are kept locked up behind the register in the glass case. You must be
17 or older with proper identification to buy any M rated game at TRU.
If you are interested in a M rated title you do not see, ask an
associate if they have it locked up in the back.

How to properly buy Placeholder games
I cannot guarantee this will work at all Toys R Us stores, some
management might be against the idea, use at your own risk.
If a game you really want is coming out after the sale ends, but you
don't want to risk missing out on something on the shelves right now,
the step by step here is what you do. Remember, the return policy is
set at 45 days from purchase.
1. Pick the two games that you want.
2. Pick up a game that has the same price point as the game coming
out, and the same price point as the two games you picked up. Example,
if the game you want is $60, buy three $60 games during the week.
3. Make sure that every third game rung up, the free one, is NOT the
placeholder game, but one you want to keep. DO NOT LOSE THE RECEIPT!
4. When the game you want comes in, bring the receipt and the
placeholder game to the customer service desk, and tell them that you
want to exchange the game for something else. Make sure you make
specific that you want to keep the one or two games, and that you want
one or two different games instead. MAKE SURE THE GAME YOU WANT TO
RETURN IS NOT OPENED.
5. If everything is in order, the exchange will be finished and enjoy
your new game!
The 45 days will take you into the first week of December, so plan accordingly.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 07/22/2008, 08:37 PMThe Wii is probably my least favorite system of this generation, and this doesn't do anything to help that.  It's just regular Gradius.  The only Gradius I liked was Gradius 5.  The others had some good music here and there but were just too damn slow.  There was a Parodius game or two that I liked.
have you had the chance to rock gradius gaiden?  it's still my favorite of the series, even after rocking the mess out of g5 (which i adore, mind you.  'tis my second fav behind gaiden).

gaiden has the most excellent level design (and stage design) in the series, in my mind.

the bargain bin at best buy tapped me on the shoulder as i was checking out with the new gotham knight anime collection on dvd.
i turned around to see what the bin wanted, and it said, "you should take home this megaman zx advent (ds) for a mere $14.99.  naturally i replied, "why, i do say that i'll have to take you up on your offer, good sir bargain bin."

later in the day i hit up play-asia.com's summer sale and grabbed kururin squash! (gcn) for around 15 bones.

**note that the "!" in that title isn't me adding exciting emphasis.  it's actually part of the title proper.  however, it does warrant exciting emphasis

On the other hand, with this game being in the official, original series, maybe they will put a lot of dedication into it, but I would think that they would release it on a physical format if that was the case...
one thing to be aware of is the fact that this is being developed by inticreates - the developers behind the mega man/rockman zero series.  consider this a huge positive and a huge promise of quality game design.  inticreates is the first and only dever to helm the series and apply quality game design and level design (and i'm even including the original team(s) in that lump).

i'm stoked :)
