There was a CoreGrafx 2 with a CD attachment in the same colour on eBay the other day, the CD was just clipped into the rear port, out of all that I've seen so far, that was the most aesthetically pleasing.

The PCE CD slips right in to a TG interface unit, and you could cobble together a cable to go between the TG expansion port and a PCE IFU (or SuperCD add-on), but that'd be one ugly setup.

So you're saying this doesn't look like a seamless streamlined unit ?

Hello TURBO fans! My name is Tyler and I run a YT channel and website called iretrogamer.com (formerly Sega Channel).

I know this is my first post here, but I'd really love to share with you the Air Zonk / Super Air Zonk retrospective we released recently. It's the first episode of our rebranded "VH1" style documentary show Game Scan TV. Previously we were an all SEGA channel but we've recently rebranded so we can talk about all the retro games we love, including the TurboGrafx-16.

I hope you guys enjoy the retrospective. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Air Zonk is absolutely one of my most favorite shooters. I actually have quite a fondness for Super Air Zonk as well.

So right away you mention the game was released in December of 1992. I'm pretty sure it was released in October or November. In fact I believe it was a rare instance where a Japanese developed game on the platform was released in the US first.

You also mention that Super Air Zonk is a TurboGrafx CD game. While this might seem like an insignificant difference it's actually SUPER CD game. It requires a 3.0 card or Turbo Duo (or Laseractive PAC) to play it on real hardware. However, on Wii virtual console or whatever emulator you used to capture all of your video this probably doesn't seem significant to you.

As far as overall notes on your video goes.
Your production values are good. Your video is visually appealing.
However, the audio levels of your speech combined with the background audio probably need to be adjusted a bit as your voice doesn't stand out enough over the music.

I'm not so sure commenting on the value of Super Air Zonk added anything valuable to the video besides to let people know if they're looking to buy a US copy they're likely going to pay out the ass for it.

I gotta see if I can find an NEC CRT, that would be fun. I have a crappy NEC monitor I use with my computer, and I keep in the ding to upgrade it for the much better NEC model one tier above mine.

In about 2 years of specifically looking for NEC's at thrifts (my local Goodwill's quit taking CRTs around December though I've seen a few show up on occasion) I've found5. Keep in mind I live within single digit miles of where NEC Home Electronics former HQ was so it's quite possible that these are a bit more common in suburban Chicago than other places.

 One I couldn't fit in my car, but I bought it and had to give it back. It was an NEC DM monitor, it had internal speakers and some sort of weird RGB connector.

 One was a huge woodgrain, appeared to be working but just too big to transport or store. This was a regular television with svideo, RF and composite jacks.


Another one I found I made a video of.

I've found two 25 or so inch ones that were DOA over the years at two different goodwills too.

Well I got tired of messing around with scalers and 20 year old CRTs that tend to have random issues.  So I said fuck it and bought this beast.  Truly brand new (manufactured in 2014) true flat auto trisync arcade monitor.  Very expensive I'll admit, but I couldn't be more pleased.

NEC/TTI had some great designers back in those days. Very sharp and catchy designs!!!

I totally remember seeing that kiosk back in the day. I'd like to say a babbages had it in the corner. People had ripped out some of the laminated pages from the book though.

Got mine today, had to snap off a tiny piece on the end that was getting stuck with the duo power lock switch went in. Once I got it off it fits on fine.

Yeah, my duo came in yesterday and I noticed that right away too.

This is the corner protrusion that must be filed down or removed to make it compatible with the Duo's lock.

I just bent it with enough force and it snapped right off

Just picked up this little guy off Clist for $40 Kickstarter Edition . Figured i could put away the old xbox for a little bit to save some space .  Thing is mint . still has all the plastic on it . Anything anyone recommends ?

in my experience, the only memory cards that could be seen by the games themselves were the official sega ones.
every other card i've ever tried required a save, reset to the system menu, and then copy the data to the memory card.

The Innovation 8meg cart can be saved to directly in-game (and, conveniently, functions as an import enabler as well...)

I have a pair of third party cards that the internal memory manager can see and that can save directly. With that said one of the two is an Interact brand card and I have a seemingly identical card from the outside that requires all saving via a menu that pops up when turning the machine on. The other one I have with direct saving capaibility is an EMS brand card.

My wife got me this. It's the Japanese version, not sure if there's any differences. I haven't played this since I was a kid on my super game boy late at night with the lights off. This game freaked me out when the Metroids pop out of nowhere with their creepy music. Great game, can't wait to play it again!

my local target is clearing these out for $50...now I may need to think about it.

After reading this I went looking at a local store-

At first glance I was kind of excited, but soon realized the $49.99 sticker was JUST for extra controllers...


The $99 price tag is for the consoles. I asked if this was going to go on clearance, but the unhelpful store clerk just said she hadn't heard if it was.



I'm still kind of interested, but ONLY for a bargain.

It's small, has a lot of emulators and makes a nice multi-media box. At 50.00 it's a steal.

I am kind of disappointed that we won't see a generation 2 with better hardware. While I know many more microconsoles will come out in the future the small form factor of Ouya, combined with the nice interface actually had me quite excited about the future for the brand.

I do know the Mad Catz MOJO and perhaps other devices will be using Ouya software in the future.

Finally, a super interesting thing I found.

The seller of the PCE Cotton I picked up also had this teacup for sale.

I've never seen one like this before, there is a well known version of the teacup for Panorama Cotton on the Mega Drive, but I haven't been able to find anything on the net about this one. 

Any ideas?  I've never heard of a teacup for the PC Engine version, but there's mention of one for a Saturn version on Wikipedia.  Also, my apologies for the watermark, I'd never seen this before so I felt like putting my handle by it would be a good idea.

Boy, that's an inconspicuous addon that keeps with the PC Engine's "micro machine" theme... I wonder why it didn't make it to market?  I wonder if their 1,000:1 compression addon, the NNID, was the reason they abandoned the NID.  The NNID (new new interactive display) was also a tech marvel for packing such power into a diminutive package.... below is a rare photo of the NNID prototype.

It's like they attached a Gretag photo machine to a PC engine.

Silent Scope 2 was a thrift pickup; only decent thing I've seen at my local Goodwill in over a year.
