What is the worst game on the PC Engine?

Looking at my PC Engine collection the worst game that I own has to be "Power Gate" released by pack in video on Hu Card.

http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Power_Gate.htm

Do you have any titles worse that this in your collection ?

Turbo D

oh man, powergate really sucks, lmao! I played it on emulator; don't think I will be picking that one up. I don't really have any games too terrible in my collection except for maybe those momotaro games (I bought them for like 25 cents each lol).
Quote from: MissaFX on 01/06/2008, 12:10 PMMy idea of gaming is a couple of friends over, a couple of drinks, a couple of medical-handrolled-game-enhancing-cigs and a glowing box you all worship.

The Momotaro games are all pretty great, you just need to be able to understand how to play them. Also, once you have played any game in the Dentetsu series you're probably good until at least a generation or two of game systems goes by before you need another one.

Katsugeki is really good.

As for worst games...this is hard to say. Energy is pretty awful, so is Circus Lido. The entire Cal series can take a flying leap. Biggest disapointment (but not worst game) is Renny Blaster.

As a TG16 guy, I can only talk about what came over to the US.  Someone else mentioned Ballistix, and I have to agree.

I only played this game for 5 minutes, and it will never again enter my system.

Ballistix is not that bad... It has been awhile since i have played.... i guess it is time for some ball play tonight :P

Clearer graphics with a little more animation, faster load times, more characters, combos that actually connect!

Honestly, anyone who thinks that JJ and Jeff or Fatal Fury 2 are uniquely bad games has lead a very sheltered life. Even if you only collect US stuff, haven't you played Darkwing Duck? The collision is that game is hideous. How about Night Creatures?

Fatal Fury 2 isn't even slightly bad. Not on any level.

haha, MY BAD, i didn't mean it was a piece of crap...i just meant it was a game that coulda been held back, and just have Special released a few months later.  I guess I'll have to come up with something elsefor a true piece of crap selection :)

SuperPlay

Ballistix and Circus Lido are both worthy contenders.

Man what's with the hate on Circus Lido.  I actually like that game.  I also like Ballistix...well on the Amiga.  I guess I like bad games.  My worst game for the pc-engine is Browning.  I haven't played every hu card game, but for me Browning takes the cake as worst game.  Legion is not to far behind that.

edit:  Darkwing Duck is my worst TG-16 game.  The graphics aren't bad but plays like a turd.

SignOfZeta

I love Browning. You just have to know how to play it.

Sinistron

OP- I found Powergate to be fun as hell.  Obviously didn't go into it expecting any sort of masterpiece- and was rewarded with the exact experience I expected- early SMS level graphics and tolerable and easy to pick up gameplay that was quick to master.  Fun clear.

My vote for worst on PCEngine is Titan- or Cross Wiber

As far as the Turbo Grafx goes,i think its A tie between Night creatures,Impossamole, and Battle Royal.

I'm totally with Zeta here!

JJ and Jeff is a quality platformer, no question about it! Embrace the wackiness of it, and the secrets, level design, and that silky smooth kick animation truly shine!

And for me, even though they're the same tunes, the music sound way better in Fatal Fury 2 than it does in Fatal Fury Special!

I would love some tips on Browning. I want to like it but all I can get from it in a continuous stream of suckage.

As for JJ and Jeff / Kato & Ken, it's a variation of Wonder Boy which is probably the best platform game ever created, and therefore cannot be crap. Besides, any game that has someone taking a dump behind a bush gets my vote.

Shittiest games:  Toilet Kids & Kato & Ken Chan/JJ & Jeff, maybe it's only a descriptive of the game, not the game play.  :)

For me, the hardest US games to like would be Falcon & Gunboat (but that's just me - I know some of you LOVE em... lol)

Falcon and Gunboat are crap games 2 and 3 after Ballistix for me.

I think each of these games may have potential for someone willing to put some effort into them...  problem is I don't think I ever want to put in that effort.

Ballistix is just shallow.  I think Bonk Volleyball from Bonk 3 CD has more depth.

Despite the repeated attempts to convince me that JJ/Chan/Chan is anything but horrible after beating it in the arcade (the machine was open, hence free gameplay) and getting close to beating it on my old Turbo, I have purchased a copy from another forum member for the sum of $1 to beat the game and continue my tirade with added legitimacy.

Don't waste the tear.

I only have 4 American loose hueys (JJ being one now) and collect PCE exclusively. I intentionally avoid American games.

As far as Darkwing Duck; Yes I've played it, I got to stage 4. I'd rather play DWD or Impossamole than JJ any day of the week. But neither are very much better. In fact, all three games are craptastic imo.

If not liking a retarded platformer makes me sheltered, then I guess you guys are out in the rain.

Umbrellas anyone?

Talespin is way worse than anything mentioned here, but I realize it's not technically a "PCE" game since it wasn't released in Japan.

I'm actually quite surprised the TG was able to get licensed products like TaleSpin and DarkWing Duck (why couldn't they just give us a 16bit Ducktales or Rescue Rangers :(  ) but couldn't get their hands on releases from Konami or any of the other companies who've been releasing sure fire hits on the PCE...

ParanoiaDragon

See, Talespin & Impossamole I actually enjoy, despite the fact that Talespin is just a subpar game, & Impossamole, well, it has it's issue's.  Worst game?  Legion is up there, as is Deep Blue & Drop Off, not to mention Darkwing Duck.

I think nearly anything sports related has to be the worst games for the PCE. I haven't dabbled in the soccer games but most main stream sports titles for the system are TERRIBLE. This I judge purely by comparison. NES, Genesis, and SNES ALL had decent-great sports titles. The PCE had abysmal sports titles. Some decent Baseball titles and John Madden does not make a good sports line up. The rest are weak at best.... some mediocre Tennis and Golf games here and there as well. TV Sports Football, Hockey, Basketball, Takin' it to the Hoop, Champions Forever, Jack Nicholas Golf, Power Golf, World Court Tennis.... there really is a barren wasteland of sports titles.

Which makes the system even more sympathic!

But to say, it really has some good socker games. And that is comming from a guy which in generally hates soccer. Also some decent golf games.

Oh I love the RPG Element to World Court Tennis and I enjoyed Power Golf. But, Hal Hole in One Golf on SNES was fantastic, the PGA games were great (well not the first one). I do think the Tennis games were decent, a bit bland, but I guess, its Tennis yah know. But the NES version of Dodgeball was better in my opinion (also I didn't have to import it or have an adapter to play it) and there isn't a basketball game on the system that compares to NCAA Basketball (I personally loved this game), the later EA Basketball titles, and certainly not NBA Jam. Plus, honestly, I think that the PCE fan is a special breed of gamer, we have soft spots for games with a keen eye for underappreciated (and underrated) games. Which was always one reason I personally loved the system. So we have a slightly skewed sense of greatness and a higher tolerance for all things mediocre.

Sport game wise for me, it is really hard to beat the following:

Tennis: Davis Cup on PCE.  I like the strategy/controls involved.
Soccer: Formation Soccer on PCE, though no soccer game is really any good to me.
Football: Tecmo on NES.  Duh.    or sometimes Cyberball, lol.
Hockey: Blades of Steel on NES.
Basketball: Takin it to the Hoop! PCE
Baseball: Little League Baseball on NES.  Baseball stars is fun but for some reason I like this one more.

If I ever want to sports game, I go to one of these games.

Did I miss a sport thats worth mentioning?

Final Match Tennis is just the best tennis sim EVER.
Formation Soccer 95 is almost as good as a FIFA could be on the Genesis.
Power League are pretty good baseball games to me (even though I don't like that sport).

And how about Takin it to the Hoop and Super Volleyball, that are decent arcade sport sims?
