That's much less of a surprise than the region lockout.

If anyone has an idea, other than Friend Codes, of how to make Nintendo games run online while not simultaneously being the worlds best tool for pedophiles I'm sure Nintendo would love to hear it.

I preordered mine yesterday.  I knew this announcement was coming today and wanted to get mine in beforehand just in case there was some kind of mad 3DS preorder rush (which there probably isn't).

TheClash603

$250 is pretty sweet if you ask me!  I hope it comes with a Metroid Prime Hunters demo too.

Kid Icarus and Street Fighter are day one pick ups, and I hope that there are some surprisingly well reviewed games to go along with those.

Mathius

I am looking forward to the Ocarina of Time remake the most. :)

TheClash603

Damn, just read no Zelda or Kid Icarus at launch.  At least I have Street Fighter.

Joe Redifer

I am most looking forward to Pilotwings Resort.  I hope it will be good.

I hope so too. It would be cool if the same guy who did the music for the original Pilotwings came and worked on the new game. I love the music from the SNES classic. It (along with F-Zero's music) reminds me of Friday nights hanging with my best bud. :)

Yeah, there's nothing in that launch window that makes me care.  For now, I'm deffinitly sticking to me waiting for the 3DS 1.5 or whatever they call the next iteration, plus, I don't like the price.  It's better then 300, sure, but, still, I don't want to pay that much for a Nintendo portable.

I'll wait n' see what Sony has to offer with the PSP2.  I doubt I'll get that right away either, but, who knows, atleast so far it's not relying on a gimmick.

Preordered 2, one of each color for me and the wifey. Now I am waiting for PSP2 preorders to start.

If Sony had brain 1 in their heads they wouldn't not bother.

Of course, currently Sony are very stupid, so I expect a PSP2 announcement any day now...

Launch games...a big bag of meh/port city..not impressed.
I am a Street Fighter nut, so I am good with that game.  Let's hope Pilotwings ends up being rad, so I can get a second game at launch.

And it begins: "Shortly after the 3DS launched in Japan, a great number of users from various websites and Twitter have reported eye strain problems caused by playing in 3D mode. Despite Nintendo's advisory to take a 15 minutes break every 30 minutes of 3D play, users claimed 3D play caused eye strain for as little as 5 minutes. Nintendo has yet responded to the complaints from users."

Got that off Magicbox, I had a baaaaaad feeling about the 3DS when I played it last month at the London Toy Fair, I did not like what it was doing to my eyes, & the tester that let me play it, admitted that YOU WILL GET SICK!  Atleast, he himself gets sick from playing it.  But, 5 minutes?  Yeesh!

Could be the worst video game gimmick ever....besides the last Nintendo 3D system

I think that there will be a wide range of reactions to the 3DS: many folks probably won't have any negative effects. But a certain segment of the population will have negative reactions, of varying degrees. I've never had a problem with 3D films, but I have a friend who can't watch them without getting eye strain/queasy.

I honestly don't believe that Nintendo would release a product without ample testing—I'm sure they made a calculated decision: even if 3DS isn't suitable for 100% of consumers, will we still reap massive profits?

We know the answer to that question.

:)

One more reason it has a slider, so you can just turn the 3d effect off plus adjust it for your eyes.  I still don't really dig the 3d gaming thing yet.  I'm sure the system will sell well, but I'd rather put my money into the psp2 atm.  It just has more of what I want in a portable handheld.  I'm also not that impressed with the launch lineup of games.

I do wonder though how big of a problem the 3d effect is going to cause for people?  :-k

SignOfZeta

Everyone is different. I never had problems with 3D. I love old two color 3D comics, LCD shutter systems like Master System, the "blue fades into the back" system, the "one purple lens" system, and more. I expect that the 3DS will work out fine for me. If it doesn't...yeah, that's why they put the slider on there. Even if the effect instantly nauseates a person, they can just turn down the effect a bit, or completely, and still enjoy the system.

Nintendo is obsessed with health and safety stuff. I'm sure they have GBs of empirical testing evidence that is more reliable than some people bitching on Twitter.

Regarding 3D movies of the newer variety, the IMax and other systems....those don't make me sick or anything either, but I do have a hard time enjoying the movies because the effect never works well enough to forget about. No matter where I sit in the theater the convergence is always off so I'm never transparently enjoying the system. Its like a 7.1 mix that is way way too aggressively separated. Until they fix this shit you're never going to see a Schindler's List or a Casablanca or a Big Lebowski in 3D, at least not one that any sane person would prefer to a 2D version. The shit is just too distracting.

Boy are you lucky. We used to play on a 50" TV, and it was great - until Halo. After watching about 3 min of it (not playing, mind you), I literally ran out of the room to go puke. Static images are okay, but once they start moving - pass the barf bag.

ParanoiaDragon

Offhand, I really don't remember having any problems with 3D in the past, with the exception of the Virtual boy....now, has Nintendo learned there lesson, we'll soon find out! :D

Seriously though, I'm sure there will eventually be some games I want to get for it, so someday I'll get it, & probably won't be using the 3D.

There was one game that made me sick. It was 3D in the sense that it was polygonal graphics, but not 3D in the stereoscopic sense. That game was Unreal while being played on a Diamond Monster Fusion video card. It had to be that specific video card. I was sick to my stomach almost instantly. Nothing else has done it to me.

My eyes water after an hour of Virtual Boy, but they may be tears of joy.

Hmm, DS games don't look so hot on 3DS, bummer.  It's hard for me to tell from the video, so, I guess until I see it for myself, I'll say it could be worse.
