@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Hey SuperDeadite, would those switchers work with non-Japanese SCART RGB?  Is it active or passive?  Passive is much better because active requires electronic that can limit your signal quality.  In order for active to be good, they need to have amazing electronics with even more amazing bandwidth.

Well they are non-powered switchers.  And they have optional resistor blocks for devices with strong RGB output (arcade pcbs).  According to one very anal Japanese review, these do add a tiny bit of noise, but I haven't noticed it yet as my eyes suck.  They are specifically designed for Japan.  I don't think Euro cables would work due to voltage differences.
JP RGB doesn't require any power lines to work.  Unlike Euro which uses a variety of voltage lines for signal auto-detect.

I know, right? First time I heard one of the songs on sunteampaul's PC Engine City podcast, I was like =P~

Non-powered is good.  So would you say that all it is basically doing is passing the signal from one end to the output?  If that is the case, I don't see why it wouldn't work.  I suppose you could always open it up and cut the trace to the voltage pin so that doesn't cause any damage (though it shouldn't if it doesn't run through any electronics).

SuperDeadite

Yes with PCB switches off, it's straight through, full strength signals.  They are not fully wired though, only the R,G,B,S,L,R,Ground lines are connected.  And these lines are completely different pins from Euro.  So unless you
rewire the full thing I don't think it's gonna work.  You could use Euro->JP adapter cables though, tons of them on
ebay.

Monster Lair for the TG16 (arrived new! - thanks Terry!) and Christmas Nights import for the Saturn.  I was looking for some relatively cheap Saturn import to verify that the Gameshark would bypass region blocks.  It does.  Still not a huge fan of the Nights games, but now I have something to play come Christmas time!  I always play Halloween themed games on Halloween - never thought to find Christmas themed games (or other holidays for that matter - maybe I'll have to play Jumping Flash! 2 next Easter).

EDIT: I got Christmas Nights from "hit-japan" on ebay and I've got to say he is a really good seller.  I've gotten a bunch of games off him lately and they were cheap and shipped surprisingly quickly.

Stumbled across a great yard sale today.  Picked up this lot for $4!

/006.jpg

The Millenium Falcon is in pretty rough shape, but for $2 I'm not going to complain.  It makes a nice addition to my (growing) Millenium Falcon collection:

/008.jpg

Left-most one - I think this was a Happy Meal toy.  You pull it back and it goes.  What's kind of neat is that it has a "turbo" mode so after it goes a few feet, it really picks up speed.  The Center one is the Transformers one.  It converts into Han Solo and Chewbacca robots!  But it's hard as heck to transform so I usually leave it in spaceship mode.  The Right-most one is a little playset.  It folds open like a clamshell and contains a bunch of mini figures and tiny spaceships.

Nice M.U.S.C.L.E. Men toys you got there ROFLMAO! I had a ton when I was a kid but they've all but dissapeared. I still look for them in boxes at my parents house when I go up there.

Thanks!  I had a ton as well when I was a kid and they all disappeared into the past.  I picked those up off ebay a handful of years ago.  I don't remember them coming in different colors, but I ended up with a couple that weren't pink like the rest...  I love that they made a wrestling-themed toy that was overwhelmingly collected by boys pink.  wtf!?

On Wed I strolled into my local Game Exchange to see how they could underwhelm like I do most weeks. Made my usual rounds until I moseyed up to the counter. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped! There in this case was a poor Joe's whole collection consisting of a stack of sealed SNES games, a plethora of hard to find PS1 games, a mountain of minty fresh Genesis games, and rows of Dreamcast games I have never heard of or even knew existed for Sega's 128-Bit console. And to top it all off most of it seemed to be underpriced! I walked out of there with this haul you see here for $35! Needless to say I am going back next week.

Edit- The Star Trek game was bought across the street and not among this find.

Nice haul Mathius! Phalanx is a cool game to play. I've put in lots of hours into that game, very underrated shooter if you ask me. I love the parallax scrolling of the clouds in level one. The cover art on the box alone is worth the price of admission.

PunkCryborg

Phalanx has to be one of the worst US covor screw ups ever. Just look how awesome the Japanese one is. Nice stuff there though and nice price!

You have to admit though, the cover art on the game does grab your attention. I don't think I would have ever spent my leftover change on that game if it weren't for that, hehe. I've seen worse cover art. Just look at the US version of Final Zone II, yeah..

Mathius

I always loved the cover art for Phalanx. I have never played it though! This copy here, along with Pilotwings, are still sealed but I am thinking about unsealing 'ol Mr. Banjo there. :) I already own PWs so I may keep it under wrap unless I want to study the manual in the bathroom.

Joe Redifer

The cover art for the US Phalanx rules.  The Japanese version is completely average in every way.  It could be any game.  But the US version... you KNOW it is Phalanx.  Plus, the Japanese version is way too "phallic" for me.  Just like Neo Geo's Last Resort art.

We may want to call games such as these phallic 'em ups or somethin'. :)

After examining the sealed SNES games I conclude that Game Exchange has a very well done process of sealing their games. There is a "used" price tag under the seal. Fooled me! The plastic feels just like I remember brand new SNES games feeling.

Yes. All of Phalanx was complete and mint inside. Every game this guy sold to the store was in perfect shape! I couldn't believe it! They said they paid the guy around $250 for his collection. If this collection was on eBay it would have probably reached into the high hundreds and maybe even low thousands. I don't know why he sold it to a game store and not a auction site, forum, or Craig's List.

I have that Recognizer diecast holder with the full set of die casts in it, lol.

I took some to work and put them on my desk.  Theyre awesome toys.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

How I spent $20 at the flea market and thrift stores this Sunday morning.
/img5750h.jpg
I've had Demon's crest on my "pick up if cheap locally" list and its such an awesome SNES game. The only thing I hate about flea market games is they have the nastiest grime on them and I'll be cleaning this one up later. I haven't played Tales of Phantasia in years so I've been on the look out for this too. It's a lot of fun but I miss the full vocal opening theme.

Sparky, Castle of Shikigami is damn good, but hard!

I used to have that headset when I was a kid, and then I ripped the plastic off in the front (where the red dot appears) and I broke it like an idiot.  It was my favorite way to play NES games for a long time, even though it made games super easy.  I remember swearing for one of the first times with that thing too!

Found this Playstation at the thrift today. It had this cdr of tony hawk in the tray so I took the $5 risk that it already had a mod chip in it. I brought it home and the burned disc worked great! I know little about the playstation import library so it looks like this one will be put on the back burner for a while. It's pretty clean for a thrift store playsation too, usually they are stacked 5 systems high and beat to hell.
