2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

I play Last Alert at least once a month. The blood is so realistic.
Nothin beats the real thing.

roflmao

I typically play Devil's Crush and a Bomberman game at least once a month and a play a shmup a few times a week.  Other than that I'll play a platformer if my son is around because he loves watching my exceedingly high skill at dying in them.

Mathius

I am currently playing Heavy Barrel on the Data East collection on the Wii. I love that game too, and I loved it on the NES also.

Sooooo Klax or Falcon?

Even the NES Klax Pwns the PCE.

Falcon is way better.  at least you don't have to think while attempting to play falcon.  Just press buttons and laugh when you die.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

:lol: It really is just a crapshoot. It's like having no pilot at all!

EDIT: Duomazov review which pretty much encapsulates this.

haha. Oh, Falcon. How I tried to love thee. I remember one level where I would just die out of nowhere, every time. I'd like to pick it up again just for the sake of nostalgia. But man, what a clunky game.

hahaha. I swear on it.

I think the key problem with the game was that it was on the Turbografx. Obviously I don't mean that as a swipe against the Turbob, but the developers just had to sacrifice too much. Computers of the day were capable of much more, and it showed. The Falcon series was released on several platforms, including MSX, Macintosh, IBM PC, Amiga, Atari ST, etc, and was highly praised in reviews. The TG port just couldn't offer a decent simulator experience.

Consider that this is Falcon 3.0 for the PC. It was released in 1991 - not long before the TG port - and was received very well:

Falcon 3.0 PC
This is the 1984 MSX-2/SMS port:

F-16 Fighting Falcon SMS
And here's the TG port just for comparison's sake:

TG Falcon
Falcon on the TG was a failed attempt at bringing a very good flight simulator to a console. Flight simulators need keyboard controls and a proper joystick. Not only that, but like the reviewer says, it was probably rushed out to the market.

Youre delusional.

If thats a very good flight sim, Justin Beiber is a very good singer.

Back in the day Falcon was THE flight sim. This was true of the b/w Mac version as well as the Amiga version.  I've never played the TG version.

Falcon on the Amiga blows the TG port away. Don't even bother with the TG port. I guess it was kinda neat to see the TG try some primitive polygon stuff, but even that's a big stretch. In fact, the Amiga port looks like the best out of the bunch, for that time period.

I think I am anti flight sims at all after being addicted to Steel Battalion for a few years straight.  Everything else sim-related sucks now. -_-

Oh! Steel Battalion! That's the Battletech game for the Xbox that had the special controller. Amazing game. A friend of mine actually had that, along with the special "simulation" controller. Blew my mind. The only battledroid sim experience that beat Steel Battalion was a simulator I played while living in Whistler, BC. There were four stand up cabinets/cockpits with a LAN connection. When you walked into the cabinet you were surrounded by blinking red buttons and a ton of control knobs. What a blast. I kind of forget what the graphics were like, but I remember being blown away - this was in '98, btw. At the end of the game, you received a print out of all your stats and they also showed everyone a replay that switched among the perspectives of the respective players.

Sounds like a Battletech Center: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleTech_Centers

I've always wanted to visit one of these - I've played Battletech (The tabletop miniatures game) since the early 90s and when I started reading about them in magazines I was completely amazed!

We had the same exact thing down here! I am pretty sure that it was Battletech. I played a little Steel Battalion at MGC and loved it! I really want the whole rig though I am sure it's uber expensive.

Steel Battalion: Line of Contact (online) was soooooooo addicting.  I was the most feared artillery pilot on the game. I would take artillery indoors and still fuck everyone up.

I have a replay of me firing overhead rockets down a hall and killing someone, thus winning the match.  The guys own team was laughing at him.

Artillery was yknow, designed for outdoor use only.  I figured out indoor use, and proceeded to own.

The game you're talking about is actually just MechWarrior 4 with specialized cockpits (expensive).

They had those here too, and it was awesome. There used to be tournaments and stuff.  We used to tear it up!  They got rid of em at the dave and busters here though. it was disappointing.

You can use the Steel Battalion controller for Mechwarrior on PC.  Just need a USB doodad for your controller, and the drivers.

Mech sims fucking rule.
