No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

For me, I will crush Tony himself in the THPS games (any of them).

Turbo or any other, what game are you simply just great at?

hoobs88

I currently hold the high score in Parasol Stars.

Exactly what i wanted to glean from this thread.  Im sure all of us have an odd gaming talent.

PCEngineHell

Splatterhouse on hard mode, Sf 2 Champion Edition, Primal Rage with Blizzard, and a few other games I cant think of right off hand.

Arkhan Asylum

SF2 with Dhalsim and Zangief, Bayou Billy on NES, Astrosmash on Atari 2600, Ecco the Dolphin on Sega Genesis, Legacy of the Wizard on NES, Berzerk, Defender, Joust, Burgertime

oh, and Strawberry Shortcake Musical Matchup.

I'm most proud of Bayou Billy, because most people fuck around on that game like a bunch of hillbillies.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

I had a hard time with legacy of the wizard, so kudos to you if you are good at it. I need to give that one another try.  Its been a while

Arkhan Asylum

Half the challenge of the game is answered in the manual that noone ever reads, lol

Due to hours upon hours of play, I consider myself pretty decent at Bomberman. While all my friends were playing their NESes and whatnot, I sat home playing through single-player mode on Bomberman over and over. Turns out, all that practice paid off as any time I play against somebody these days, I tend to be pretty successful.

Of course, if I ever played against some of the fanatics on this board, I'd probably get creamed. :)

PunkCryborg

I consider myself to be a dr mario pro. im also pretty good at tetris but nowhere near those guys who play grandmaster.

SignOfZeta

I used to rule Gate of Thunder big time. I think I actually finished it once with my original hyper cocoon still green. These days I'm lucky to OCC it. My skills have atrophied...considerably. :(

With Street Fighter Zero 2 (original CPS2 ver) I could shut the fuck down basically everyone I knew with Nash, and I know some decent players. This is the only fighting game I'm really that good at though, and I'm not really that good at all on the global scale. I love fighting games but I suck at them.

I used to think I was the bee's knees at Batman (NES), Lords of Thunder (TGCD) and Street Fighter II CE or Turbo on SNES.... I'm alright at some fighters like KOF '98 ('99 Dream Match) and CvS 2 for Dreamcast.

Damn, I'm probably out of practice on many of these... I'll have to spend some time playing more games and get back to you on this.  :P

When I had the time,  I used to play each new game I got to death, mastering them and searching every inch for secrets or exploits. All the more so with games I loved. That's how I figured out ways to skip most of Dragon's Curse and Shapeshifter.

I got finishing the original Zelda down to around twenty minutes. Would get to the end of FFIII SNES in a day and a half, did timed runs of Phantasy Star and also maxed out the characters in most RPGs when it wasn't necessary. I submitted a winning high score to EGM for Bloody Wolf, but they never published it.

In grade six, every day day after school I hiked down to Zellers and played through Black Tiger on a single quarter. I took the long way through each stage, racking up all the points I could. Once I got to the final check point without dying, I'd walk around killing enemies until the timer ran out. On my last life, once the time was almost out, I'd finish the game and enter the hi score.

Considering that the current record for a tool-assisted run is over 22 minutes, I doubt it. Even cracking under an hour on an actual console would be quite a feat.

Lesse (off the top of my head):

Space Harrier on the Master System
Space Harrier in the arcade
Super Monkey Ball on the Gamecube
Castle of Illusion on the 16-bit Sega Genesis system
Thunder Force III on the 16-bit Sega Genesis system

Lost my touch over the years:
Kenseiden on the Sega Master System
Shadow Dancer on the 16-bit Genesis system
F-Zero on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Probably many more.

I know that back when I still remembered the exact time (24 minutes?), I found that the current "world" record online was slower. Some day when/if I have the time, I'll see if I can memorize the entire game again and figure out the fastest path through.

Back in the day my girlfriend and I played Tetris Attack a great deal, and no that's not a euphemism.

The year before last when I went to the game show in Cleveland I was thrilled to see they were running a Tetris Attack tournament! However they way they did it was...stupid. They had you play Endless mode with some specific settings and going until you died and comparing scores. The only way I could imagine for this making sense to anyone in any way when there is a PERFECTLY FUNCTIONAL VERSUS MODE in the game was that some weird dude in the area wanted to see how everyone else was at playing this great game in a fucked up way.

When I went to play I got crushed by not just one guy who had mastered this bizarre mode of play, but by all his friends too, all of whom evidently think that a great way to have a tournament is to have a mob of people stand around watching someone play a 1 player game.

The actual game of Tetris Attack is very very good. Its super strategic and also reflexive. The music is terrific and the graphics are great. It was a perfect send off for the SNES (I think its US only) before Nintendo descended into a pit of blurry foggy polygonal mediocrity that they still haven't quite recovered from. IMO the only versus puzzle game that is better (or maybe equally as good and not actually better) is Puyo Puyo Tsu.

I have Panel de Pon on the GC Nintendo Puzzle Collection, and its the same game-playwise, but the graphics and sounds on the SNES...I have to have them. I also have Pokemon Puzzle League for GB and, same thing, without the beautiful graphics its just not the same.

As with Street Fighter, Starcraft, etc I've pretty much only played it in VS mode.

I've got quite a few variations. GameBoy Tetris Attack. Pokemon Puzzle League on GameBoy and N64, the aforementioned import only Puzzle Collection. What the game will accept as a combo, timing and a few other things vary from version to version. My favorite is still SNES Tetris Attack.

Why they would have a tournament of a two player game using high scores from a one player mode is just ridiculous to me.

Definitely my favorite puzzle game. There have been a few clone games but they lack in the music or character department.
That is ridiculous about the tournament...the competitive factor in the game lies in versus mode.

I was going to say SF II' CE, but it seems like a whole lot of other people are, too. So... anybody wanna settle this?

I guess I could also say I'm pretty dang good at Tetris. I'm the local champion here in Abilene, TX. That tournament, too was held in the single player format, but it actually made a bit more sense. It was held over the course of a month. You'd pay the entry few whenever you wanted to make another attempt. And the person with the highest score at the end of the month won.

'Course I haven't played in a while, so one of you could probably beat me out of pure rusty-ness. :P

That reminds me. Neo Geo Cup 98 Plus Color for NGP. Like most (all?) SNK sports games its really fun...but then I found the exact spot to stand where I can score every time. Scores like 34-1 become common at that time and the game wasn't as fun.
