So does anyone have any proof that Nick Wood was responsible for Gate of Thunder's sound track?  People keep telling me that T's Music did it, and that is absolute.  But a few people here say this Nick Wood guy (who has a CD that sounds nothing like anything from GoT) is the man.  If he is listed in the credits, could you post a screenshot?

Nick Wood is listed in the credits. I'll play through the game to take a screenshot if you'd like, I don't have any savestates for it.

EDIT: Looks like I had a savestate after all...at the very end of the game. So here's some shots:

GoT-Credits1.png

Also, more music credits:

GoT-Credits2.png

On the title screen, there's a mention of "SYN SOUND DESIGN" but I have no idea what this is about.

GoT-Credits3.png

I should also mention that GoT's music sounds nothing like T's works, the music style in GoT is way more subdued, whereas all the T's soundtracks I have heard are more energetic and lively.

Thanks for that.  I hope by "Sound Design" they mean music, and not just sound effects and/or voice.

Isn't Takeda part of T's Music?

Seldane

Whoever made the music might be a fan of Nick Wood and used his name or something. The japanese guys aren't exactly serious about getting credit for their work. At least not in the past.

I don't see why that wouldn't be the real Nick Wood, especially since he has a lot of Japanese connections or something from what I understand.

Takeda isn't exactly an uncommon name. Also, it's possible that if it is the same person, maybe he was uninvolved with T's at the time of GoT. Plus, T's makes sure the name gets added to the credits as "T's music". Always.

From what I understand, Nick lives in Japan, & has for, I don't know, 20 years maybe?  He used to live in the UK, but he started up a team or whatever, & that's that SYN you were talking about, but, most of this, I got from Kaminari.  He seems to be the expert on him.

Yeah, that word works too; I tend to use both words interchangeably.

Tatsujin, you live in Japan, right?  Can't you just walk over to Nick Wood's house and ask him if he personally composed the music for Gate of Thunder?

Surely if there is a man named Nick Wood living in Japan then there would be a giant neon sign above his house with his name on it and an arrow pointing down to his front door.  Look out your window right now.  Do you see it?  If not, then I guess Nick Wood is just some British dude who does not live in Japan.

SignOfZeta

I think people need to understand that T's Music is really just a amorphous company with many musical styles, and a rotating staff. Kind of like Red, only with Music.

A good example, is that they did the music for Bonk for NES, & I didn't remember hearing any wailing guitars in that one :D

Kitsunexus

I don't think Nick Wood did the music for GoT, sound design is very different from music direction, programming and producing. Maybe he just made the sound effects.

All I know, is that supposedly, he did the actual music for GoT & Dynastic Hero, as he's multi talented, & can produce any style of music.  It makes sense to me, but, Kaminari knows all about him & his history.

AFAIK, Nick Wood did personally compose the music for Gate of Thunder and Dynastic Hero (and the animation picture Tōi Umi kara Kita Coo, which sounds a lot like the latter). Dynastic Hero and Coo were co-composed with Julian Lennon.

Japanese developers are not consistent when it comes to game credits. In many games, you'll find the composer listed under the simple title "Sound" which could mean anything. In the case of GoT, "Sound Design" was probably a joke on the fact that Nick Wood's studio was named Syn Sound Design at the time. Nowadays, it's Syn Entertainment. The site is in reconstruction, but a few years ago you could find GoT listed in his resume.

You can certainly contact him on his blog and ask him for details.

Anyone have information on "Groove King" listed as the composer in the Lords of Thunder credits?

There's an anecdote about SYN. The name was chosen after the three founders of the studio: Simon Le Bon, Yasmin Parvaneh and Nick Wood. Some sites state that it was founded in 1998, which is erroneous. Syn Sound Design had been in existence as early as 1989.

Kitsunexus

I would have guess SYN as in SYNthesizer...heh.

Just beat Hellfire S, & T's Music was responsible for the music.  I wasn't aware that they existed that far back in time.
