If you can figure out how, let me know. AFAIK there is no way.

Come to think of it, what I said isn't entirely accurate. You could install Boot Camp or Parallels with Windows, then burn them under Windows using Nero. It's not that Macs are incapable of burning Turbo games, it's just that no one has written a program that lets you do it.

What format are PCE games warzed in? I'm pretty sure I've done this.

Turbo games are ISO/CUE. I know of no way to burn ISO/CUE sets under the Mac OS. Toast doesn't do it.

If you have found a way, I'd be extremely interested in hearing how.

MurderDate

me too...  although someone would have to walk me through it.

Just spent my last dollar of "play money" on a Duo that comes with Cosmic Fantasy 2..   dying to play a CD shooter tho !

Joe burned the ISO/CUE set for my LOT dual boot CD, so maybe he can shed some light on this...

I think he used his Windows PC for that. I'm pretty sure I've talked about this before with him.

Joe Redifer

I always use a real PC to burn my game discs since it has Nero and a really slow burner.  Why someone hasn't written an ISO+CUE capable program is beyond my comprehension.

They're talking about BIN/CUE, Bonknuts. Turbo images come in ISO/CUE. I know of no utility to convert one to the other on the Mac OS. And yeah, Toast has BIN/CUE capability but not ISO/CUE.

Wow.. what a bunch of crap. Roxio(who originally put out toast) allowed CUE/ISO/WAV in their other software.

Anyway, what's the error message do you get when you try to load a CUE that's built from an ISO/WAVE set? Does it give an error on at a specific line of the CUE?

Yeah, let's say my .CUE sheet is called "Dynastic Hero.CUE".

The error:

"Dynastic Hero.BIN not found! Dynastic Hero.BIN needs to be in the same folder as Dynastic Hero.CUE"

I don't think it even gets so far as to check the syntax of the CUE sheet. It just looks for the BIN file and hangs up right there. Believe me, there is no ISO/CUE/WAV support in Toast. I've tried manipulating it every way I can possible think of, by even going so far as to name the actual ISO file to BIN.

you guys are awesome.  I guess I'll need to leave the house (gulp)  look for a neighbor with a PC & see if I can get him to burn me some games.  Is it just as easy as dumping the Roms onto a CD?     The guy I bought the Duo from is including a DVD full of Roms..

Heh heh.

No.

Playing the games on actual hardware is much different, mainly because the CD standard for PC Engine predates all the stuff we use now.

The other big problem, or at least it seems this way, is that most people who pirate PCE games play them in in an emulator, so they are all compressed and perverted for that use. Getting them on a CD of their own isn't a concern for these people, and it makes playing the games on actual hardware really tough.

The only PCE game I've ever successfully burned is Bizarra de Gozaru Game no Gazzara, and I can't even remember how I did it.

I also make a special remix of Lords of Thunder, and I can't even manage to just straight copy that successfully.

I'm not sure what problems you have, but it's pretty easy to burn a CUE/ISO/WAVE or CUE/BIN setup from a PC (Nero or Alcohol are the recommended apps now a days).

MurderDate: If you have a Duo with a tired laser unit, it'll have problems reading some brand CDRs or maybe all of then depending on its condition. Just remember to keep the burn speed to 8x on newer drives as faster burning rate will cause problems (slower than 8x *can* cause problems on newer drivers as well - it does for my $200 plextor  DVD/CD writer for 4x).

I'm going to be acquiring the very first Macintosh model from my uncle soon, will I be able to burn CD games on it?

The very first? You mean a mac 128K? No, it can't burn CDs.

Yeah, if it's actually the VERY FIRST Macintosh model ever made, you're talking about a computer released in 1984. That was before you were born! I don't know of any computers from 1984 that have the ability to burn CDs.

That Mac can't even read or write the now obsolete 1.4MB 3.5" floppy disks. Those computers can only handle single-sided (or double-sided formatted as single-sided), double density disks. To my knowledge these are not sold new anywhere in the world anymore, not even online.

But considering you're asking this after a whole conversation about how it's not possible to burn CD games on the most modern Mac, I have to believe you were being sarcastic. Or something.

That aside, those old Macs can be fun. I have one, but it's actually one of the ones with a whole whopping 512k of RAM! You could do a lot more with half a meg of memory compared to just 128k.

Keranu, the 1984 Macintosh cannot burn CDs but it seems to do OK with DVDs and HD-DVDs.  It cannot burn BluRay.  If you want to play Bioshock you might want to add an extra 16k of RAM.

Seriously, I don't remember CD-ROMs even existing widespread (read only, remember) long before Macs went PowerPC in 1989 or 1990 or whenever the hell it was.  So the 1984 Macintosh wouldn't even be able to read CDs.

You got it! ;) I really am acquring a 1984 Mac though and one of the first released (before the 1984 commercial aired).

uh, I thought it was possible to burn games from a computer to play on the actual TGDuo system.  I have no (well, not very much) interest in playing them on my computer.   Guh..  Looks like this new CD game interest is going to get costly..   Looks like I'll be playing Cosmic Fantasy 2 for a couple weeks!   Also World Class Tennis-  LOVE that game !

It's possible, but it ain't always easy.  Follow the tutorials at Necstasy: check your rip's table of contents and repair it if necessary, and then burn that sumbitch.

For fun I asked over at the Mac forums.  They clearly are a confused bunch.

A funny read, that.  It's just impossible for some people to fully read a question before they spout off with an answer.
