I mean the very, very beginning of the video, the "gamescape.tk presents/A JPD Films production" part. It's from a game and I can't place it for the life of me. I know it's something I own, either a SegaCD or Super NES game...or maybe it's a Turbo CD game...and it's something I played enough because I recognize it and I'm gonna kick myself as soon as I fiigure it out, or someone tells me...gaahh!!!   ](*,)

Turbo D

really, thats from a game? I thought it was just some generic intro sequence. I wonder who can guess what game its from?

That is ridiculously way too far from where I live.  Who goes to Milwaukee for anything?  The city doesn't even have a right to exist.  It should be in Denver instead.  It is a far better city in every respect.

Not sure if I'll be there this year :( . Pushing the date back to March kinda threw us all off. If enough of my Nerd HURD is interested in going again, then I'll probably be there.

What is MGC like? What is there to do there? Would it be worth it to travel from California for this event?

To read what MGC is like, I'm going to, of course as usual, shamely promote my article here. (and don't forget MGC 2007!)

If you don't have any good classic video game shops or conventions in your area, it might be worth it depending your tastes. There was actually someone who traveled all the way from Nova Scotia to attend it once! Since you're from California, it would be easier for you to attend the Classic Gaming Expo in Las Vegas of course. However MGC is a good place to meet some PCEFXers of course ;) .

Once, maybe.  Twice, no way.

MGC has lots of vendors, some good speakers, a pinball tournament, and a museum which has lots of games.

The vendors are pretty good.  Lots of good deals, but quite a few bad ones as well.  Lots of people selling arcade cabinets and parts if that is your thing, too.

The museum is pretty much the same every year.

The speakers haven't been announced yet, but I would bet on Marty Goldberg and Ben Heckendorn being two of them.  Ralph Baer was going to go in 2006 but he got sick and couldn't come.  :?

I have never done the pinball tournament thing, it too expensive for my tastes.  Last year there was a shoot'em'up tournament too, but since Kamino is gone I don't think there will be another one this year.

The guys from Team Fremont do a game show style trivia contest which can be fun (especially if you were selected one year like two of us Lazer Dorks were).  Keranu's heckling that year in Team LD's favor was the most hilarious thing I have ever seen, even if we beefed it and lost horribly to some genius kid.

Keranu wrote articles with pictures on Lazer Dorks on the 2006 and 2007 MGC.

EDIT: God damn it, K, you beat me to it.

Hobo Xiphas

Oh, last year there was a 'Turbo Fest'.  Basically Keranu and turboSage and someone else from here (I forget who, sorry  :x) set up a table full of turbo stuff to play.  They even showed some of Nanto's cheesy videos on loop, hahahaha.

The Turbo Fest was featured on the Milwaukee local news with footage of Keranu, myself, and two of his brothers playing Bomberman '94.  8)

For those interested in seeing me making an ass out of myself during my infamous heckling, download this video and I'll first appear about 20 seconds in (wearing a black flat hat and overshirt) and I yell my heckle around 1:26 into the video. The dude standing to the left of me really got close to me after I yelled that, it was kinda creepy  8-[ .

If you're interested in watching that whole game show, you can find it on the Team Fremont's site here.

Man, the 2006 MGC was really great.  It kinda went downhill in 2007 though, even with Turbo Fest.  :-&

Keranu

Yeah the lack of lots of arcade games in 2007 really hurt it. The vendors were better, but I'd rather have better arcade gaming.

The vendors were much better last year, I'll give you that.  The lack of arcade games was pretty bad, too.

The problem is that the museum pretty much can't be improved because people will want to see the same games over and over.  I mean, hell, I spent more time playing games that I already owned last year.  :-#

Are you guys actually going to do Turbo fest again?  Maybe you can put out the Mysterious Song beta or something, hahahaha.

Joe Redifer

Yeah this is a problem with the MGC. You really only need to go to it once because it will be mostly the same experience the next time. Of course I love to go to see a new Marty speech each time 8) .

Quote from: XiphosAre you guys actually going to do Turbo fest again?  Maybe you can put out the Mysterious Song beta or something, hahahaha.
I wouldn't mind doing it again and turbo_sage seems up for it. We have discussed revealing a demo of our TOP SECRET Frozen Utopia game at it! That would be the first time the game has ever been shown public after it's two years of development!

Well, if you want to go I guess I have to go too unless you can find someone to crash with since you can't get a hotel room until next year.  ](*,)

The only Turbo thing I can bring is a copy of Far East of Eden II.  But I can bring one smallish TV and one largish TV if you guys are short of that.  I know that was your big problem last year.

Keranu

I'm mostly interested in seeing if NASAchusetts is up for it, especially since he didn't go last year. I guess I better make a thread on LaZer Dorks to provoke his attention.

Honestly, the best descriptions are the two articles Keranu wrote on Lazer Dorks that he linked to earlier.

Team Fremont probably has some videos and probably a podcast or two about MGC.

TurboSage has a couple of YouTube videos on it too, I think.  Search for "Midwest Gaming Classic" on YouTube, it is the first result I think.

DHG Hunter here at PCEFX is one of the organizers of the show, he might show up in this thread again so you can ask him some questions directly.

Also, be sure to read this thread from page one, there is lots of good info in here.

My Summary: The 2006 MGC was awesome beyond compare.  The 2007 MGC kinda sucked.  As long as you don't take things too seriously, you can have some major fun.  8)
