Being a huge old school game collector, yet now that I live in Europe I have had trouble finding a TV that works with my old school games.  I have a modern Samsung HDTV which works ok, but it just looks like crap compared to an honest to goodness CRT.  I decided that to get the most old school feel possible, I should go with an old school TV that is from a similar era, so I just picked up this 1987 13 inch Stereo Sony Trinitron.  Back in the states I had a modern CRT, a sony WEGA, but to be honest the flat screen does not capture the Nostalgia like an old Trinitron.

HELL YEAH

Nice TV I expect it would have scart for RGB goodness.

I see speakers on the sides of the TV, are those detachable?  :-k

Arkhan Asylum

I still play my oldstuff on an RCA ColorTrak (1983)

It's got an awesome keypad, and sweet volume knob, AND, red LED channel display.

LCD tvs are satan.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

No they are not detachable, it has red yellow and white RCA input in the back plus the RF, what is also cool about it is that even if you lose the remote, all the contrast, brightness and other settings are adjustable by dial.  Its one of the last years these were still Made in Japan, I hope to get some good use out of it.

Keranu

That's so awesome, I would love to have that TV! That remote pictured with it is pretty killer too.

I was just wondering if those speakers could handle the stress if you were to lay the TV on its side. As in rotate it 90 degrees. If you have no idea where I'm getting at then don't worry about it. It's awesome TV.

ah you mean for vertical style scrolling shooters and things right?   I dunno, I never had the desire to try that,  I have heard it is not good for the tube, but I am not sure.

It kind of depends on the TV, but I've "TATE'd" multiple televisions and I've never had any major issues -- although one TV had distorted color when it was turned on its side, similar to the distortion that occurs when you put a magnet near a TV. I can only assume it was some issue related to magnetic shielding.

Anyway, it's the only way to play vertical shooters, except for a cab of course!

CRTs are definitely the way to go for old school consoles, but only 13" would make my eyes bleed.  Still a nice looking set though.

The CRT I use the most is a Sony 20" from the 90s.  It looks like a million bucks close up.  It just doesn't have S-Video   I have a Sony 27" wide screen CRT as well which has S-Video in...but it is widescreen.

The TV I always wanted was a Sony 20" for the medical industry which had moduals you could buy for it to add extra tuners, inputs, etc.  It came with 4 inputs you could position and display over each other if you wished, like 6 different inputs of which 4 were different video types (at least)...I soooooo wish I had ever been able to afford this TV in the mid 90s when they made it.

That 13" you got there looks pretty sweet though.  I just hope it doesn't scrunch the text too bad.  In the 80s I had to play on a 9" or 8" portable TV and I know that distorted the text like all hell if it was at the top or bottom of the screen.

I'm using an old family Magnavox TV from around 1993/1994, I think mine is on The store we bought it from had a CD-i set up on it (unfortunately I didn't get to witness that myself)! Does yours look like this?

Needs more dirt.  Maybe a big crack in the center of the glass would help as well.

Okay how about the rest of her middle and last name, as well as her phone number (with area code), address, and preferably SSN.

For my 13" CRT I have an RF adapter that has an S-Video port. I bought it four or five years ago for no real reason, but now I'm glad I did. One of those shouldn't be too hard to find.

I haven't played my Duo on my new LCD TV yet, but I have played some emulators on it. Some games definitely turn out better than others on the LCD. When the Duo arrives I'll decide whether I'll want to play it on the LCD or my oldschool 13" CRT. I have a feeling I'll be switching back and forth between them. Of course, when I play games on the LCD widescreen I have the screen mode on 4:3 (normal). Stretching the screen on games is unforgivable.  [-X

I have to say that Image Fight (MAME) looks fantastic on the LCD. I'm getting totally addicted to that game.

Dark Fact

I still have a few CRT televisions kicking around my house.  I recently remodeled my room and got my dad to put a 9" CRT set on my dresser.  It's cable ready and I can set up a sweet gaming system on it.  The only thing I need for it though is a properly reprogrammed remote considering that my family has switched to digital cable.
