No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Color me excited, a new 2.5d Strider coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox 180, & Steam!  Sounds like it'll have a Metroid styled layout like Symphony of the Night!!!!  I love me some Castleroids! :D

I made a thread too, but yours ways first.

Anyway this looks really good, cannot wait.

Maybe Capcom will throw in a completed version of SuperGrafx Strider

I have a feeling it will be download-only which means the game will be half-assed in some area. Hopefully not. Looks pretty fun so far. Definitely going for the XBONE version because XBONE is the best. They're gonna bump up their specs to be near-PS4 quality, so XBONE can't lose. I'm pretty sure Mathius will get that version as well. He loves XBONE.

I can't even comment. I want another 2D arcade game. Dated as hell, no Symphony of the Metroidvania aspirations, I'm happy.

I know. I'll stop.

[/end]

I would be willing to play this new Strider.  :pcgs:

So, basically looks like what they did with "Bionic Commando: Rearmed". Could be interesting.

Like most action movies nowadays, it looks to rely too heavily on quick camera transitions and s.e. flash and wizardry.

[/end]

Still, it looks kinda fun.  I'd buy it if it were on a disc for a system I own.
Ultimate Forum Bully/Thief/Saboteur/Clone Warrior! BURN IN HELL NECROPHUCK!!!

ParanoiaDragon

I do hope it's on a disc.  I'll still buy it if it isn't, most 2d'ish games are download only these days unless they're on a portable.

I'm surprised this game isn't on Wii U. Oh well, sucks for me... :(

CrackTiger

So it's gone from 4-player simultaneous in the last unofficial entry to single player with seemingly four times less action? Given how little coverage Moon Diver received compared to this, it just goes to show how much name recognition is everything nowadays.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

...yes. You know it's no accident that "Symphony of the Night" and similar stuff is referenced repeatedly...

Wow, really? The masses of retroactively-"retro gamers" are always chanting "Metroidvanias" or "Castletroids" and explaining when no one asks how SotN was either the first of its kind or the second, after Super Metroid. But as bad as it is that they are completely oblivious to the dozens of those games on 8-bit consoles, you'd think that Capcom (or whoever is tossing around "SotN") would trust that the kind of people they're reaching out to with terms like that would have gone straight to wikipedia the moment this game was announced, to figure out what "Strider" is... and discovered that SotN is a "Strider" game, as the first version was a Dragon'sTramboattheclashofthebattleofolympysIII style game. That'd be like an update to Mario Bros being maketed as a "Bubble Bobble" style game.

I hear you. I want creative level design in my new Strider, with hidden surprises and alternate routes, but I don't need a non-linear sprawling world. Not for Strider. I want a game that centers on acrobatic slashing, and steers me forward. I have choices, but not too many. I like the game to determine the pacing. You couldn't lolly-gag and loiter in the original Strider. You didn't have to re-trace your steps or backtrack. BECAUSE IT WAS STRIDER, WHO CONSTANTLY PROGRESSES. I don't need Symphony of Metroidvania in my Strider.

Looks good!  I'm glad they kept it a platform-er.

That reminds me, I recall there being a Sunsoft game for NES we never got that was also in that same vein.  I think it was called Utopia & had a WiiWare release in English, though, I don't know how much translation was actually needed for it, unless it has a lot of story?  I'll have to do some digging on that one.

Since the PV was edited together by someone with the attention span of a hydrogen 7 atom it's hard to tell WTF I'm looking at other than its Strider and its dark as hell.

I hope it's good, but...

It couldn't be worse than Metroid Other M. :lol

Metroid Other M wasn't that bad, but I played the import version.  I hated Strider 2 and I don't see how this will be any better.  You would be better of playing Osman if you want a sort of Strider sequel.

It's that Marvel VS Capcom MTV edited fighting. Pretty much turned me off from those games, now get off my LAWN!!!

Game looks tight!

Strider 2 didn't have the original game designer, but Osman did. :P

I too enjoyed Other M.  It's not that there weren't things I hated about it, but I still really enjoyed it for the most part.  The thing that angered me in that game, wasn't the storytelling or whatever.  It was when you get FORCED to search in a certain room.  I swear, either I was blind or stupid, cuz I'd sit there for 20 minutes trying to figure out what the hell they wanted me to look at!

As for Strider 2, are you talking about US Gold's game, or the one on PS1?  I thought the PS1 game was alright.  It wasn't awesome, but it was cool in general.

I too enjoyed Other M, but it makes me rage because it could (should) have been so much better.  I even liked the silly missile gimmick; were the controller not so sucky, it would have been awesome.  Maybe it's not so much that it was a terrible game, more that it was a huge letdown.  For me, at least.

I have yet to even play the original Strider on anything but emu, but I did enjoy it.  I'll likely get the Mega Drive version, as well as the PCE version & an arcade card, before I buy this.
