I've been playing Xenogears on PS1 to supplement my Xenoblade Chronicles X addiction. I've been using my ps3 and psp to play it though, it's nice transferring saves between the platforms and continuing through the game.

You should only use a PSISO to save the laser!

Pick up one of the video CD addons and burn some movies to watch on it.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Psycho Punch

I imagine jtucci sitting in front of his ps1 for 6 hours or so refreshing the thread. "Should I play it? Or not?"

Seconded. Surprised but glad you didn't say Einhander or something.

CGQuarterly

No.  You should collect games for it, but only play ISOs via emulation.  So that you don't wear out your discs.

You should play it, Raystorm is a lot of fun if you haven't tried it - as is Alundra. I love my ps1 :)

There's a lot of good PSone games.

However, there's only a small handful of great ones that are exclusive to the platform and since so many of the PSone games are early polygonal if not all-out 3D games, a lot of the library hasn't aged well. With that said Klonoa, Crash Bandicoot, a wide variety of shmups, JRPGs and the handful of 2D games that made it to the market are mostly worth playing.

While time doesn't look back on the PSone as fondly as it does the Saturn due to the greater emphasis on 3D, don't let that deter you from playing the quality titles that are on it.

BTW the best game on the platform is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Don't play it - turn it into a high end CD player instead...

Haha, that silly myth about early PS1 consoles being high end CD players. When in the end it doesn't really matter. Audiophiles believe in any bullshit.
Still, that one looks funny.

Put it back in the box, put a piece of tape over the edge of the box, send it to VGA.

List it on eBay as "NEW Playstaysion Silver 85+ NEW Mint R@R3 L@@K MAGICAL CHASE LITTLE SAMSON"

Profit to the tune of $1,000,000,000,000.

Emulation can actually make up for some of outdated 3d of the PSOne.

SamIAm

Have you kept up on the state of PS1 emulation? How is it compared to, say, 10 years ago? Has it reached the point where 99% of the library plays OK 99% of the time? Back when I emulated PS1 games in college, I think most games would start, but glitches were a matter for the course.

I don't use emulation too much, usually just to try something out for a few minutes. I've always had good luck though, even when doing it on my phone.

Many glitches have been ironed out years ago. I stopped emulating 5 years ago, so I can only imagine it only got better.
