6-Button PC-Engine Pads

I am trying to figure out what brands I should be looking at for a 6-button pad. I have heard Avenue 6 pads are junk from some people and others say they are good. I need something for my Street Fighter II'.

1. What brands do you guys recommend?

2. How much should I expect to pay for these?

3. I've seen the Avenue 6 pads going for $24. Is this a good price?

4. Does anyone here on the boards sell these?

1. I am partial to the NEC Avenue pad, but I haven't used any others. I'd like to try some of the others, like the one that's shaped like the PC-FX pad.

2. Dunno. $20-$30 maybe?

3. Average I'd guess.

Avenue 6 is the standard for pce streetfighter. It was designed for it, haha. If you want the SuperNintendo feel, grab the hori commander pce. Hori also makes some quality sticks if you are looking for the arcade experience.

Personally I love the Avenue 6. The buttons and D-pad have a better feel to them than the Duo-RX 6 button pad. Especially the D-pad which absolutely blows on the Duo-RX pad. But the Duo-RX pad feels better to hold.

I've never used a Hori pad so I can't comment.

Of all the 6 button controllers for PCE none of them are very good for actually playing Street Fighter "for real" except for the Sigma stick (which is super hard to find) and the Hori sticks, which are pretty good but not as good as their new stuff.

Its unlikely that you are needing something tournament-grade though, and if you just want to play SFII' (which is unplayable with a standard pad) then, yeah, the Avenue 6 will do.

I think the Avenue pad is just fine for playing Street Fighter II' with any character except for Balrog or Zangief... because both of them have important moves that require pressing 3 punches. The buttons are laid out on the controller like a Street Fighter II 6 button arcade machine. Pressing 3 punches with my thumb is nearly impossible... using 3 fingers is also incredibly awkward...

I haven't had a chance to use my Avenue Pad 6 yet, but I do like the feel of it.

Keranu uses his turbo pads like arcade sticks. It should be no problem for him

I used the Avenue 6 pads for years without a problem but I have to say the Hori pads are a lot nicer. I haven't touched my Avenue 6 pads since I got the Hori's. The D-pad on the Avenue 6 is kind of weak if you're trying to nail special moves that require diagonal motion. The Hori "fighting commander" or whatever has better direction control, is more comfortable, and unlike the Avenue 6, doesn't have a ganged turbo switch for buttons I and VI (not that it matters).

$25 is OK; I'd say it's the high end of average for NEC Avenue pads. You can probably find one for $15-20 if you try. Hori pads are relatively uncommon but they sell for about the same price or a few dollars more if you can find them.
D-lite usually has some controllers for sale at multimods.

I haven't tried the RX pads.

Definitely more comfortable when it comes to busting fast moves. The Avenue 6 pad tends to grind your thumb after awhile.

The thing with the RX 6-button is that the D-Pad just really, really sucks. It's very stiff and way too fucking big.

It's too bad too because the pad itself is very ergonomic, especially the underside where it has nice indented grips that make it extremely comfortable to hold. It'd easily be the best 6-button pad for the system if the D-Pad wasn't such a trainwreck.

awesome, I may have to pick some of those up! my only complaints with the PCE controllers are the short cords and games that make heavy use of Select - so a couple of these should be perfect!

I contacted that guy a few weeks ago via email and never heard back from him. Upon investigation on the boards he said he doesn't check his PMs very often and to email him directly. I'm going to be ordering a couple from another site this weekend.

I am partial to the Hori Fighting Commander ($20-$30). It is very ergonomic and has turbo switches for each of the six buttons as well as slow motion mode (which comes in useful for the final boss of Kabuki Itouryodan). The PC Engine Duo-RX pad is a close second for comfort but is extremely expensive (usually around $60) and hard to find. The only functional drawback with this pad is that it is sometimes difficult to do moves that require a diagonal direction.
