I feel your pain, AYB.  A few years back my car was broken into right outside my apartment.  When I called the police they told me that there was a rash of break-ins that night  within a few miles of where I lived so I guess I wasn't the only one hit.  I had an Infinity Basslink sub in the trunk which they took, but worse than that, I had a Nintendo 64 with a bunch of controllers and games that they took.  At the time I worked with a brain injury rehabilitation organization as a life skills trainer and I would bring in the N64 so a bunch of the guys could play Mario Party.  My insurance company covered the cost to replace the window and even got me a newer model of the sub (which came with a remote!) but they wouldn't cover the N64. :(  One of these days I'll get another one, since I still have a bunch of games and controllers for it.  Heck, I still have the original box the system came in!

Here are a couple of pics:

Notice they left the rollerblades... :p

Hey all,

I recently got access to a bunch of screen printing equipment and have started designing a Blazing Lazers t-shirt.  I thought I'd post my progress here to see if anyone else would be interested in one.

Here is my initial crack at the design.  It's one color and blocky by design - I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.  I haven't screen printed anything in over 10 years. :)

IMG

I'll admit it's a little too phallic for my tastes so I'm considering starting with some other game (but I'm not too sure what), though I still think this would make a pretty cool t-shirt...  So I'm on the fence.

If I were to go down this route, do you think you'd have any interest in picking up a t-shirt?  This would be at cost - I'm not looking to make money off this.  I haven't really looked into the cost of paint and t-shirts or even thought about shipping, but I would guess somewhere in the ballpark of $10-15 shipped (in the US).  It may be less if I could buy bulk, but I doubt many people would be interested in this.

Thanks!

I picked these up at a local used book (and other stuff) store yesterday.

IMG

Both games are pretty fun, but right now I'm favoring Tiger-Heli.  Is Star Force related to the Star Soldier series?  It feels awfully reminiscent of Star Soldier on the NES (minus the lack of powerups).   I love the happy tunes.

A couple weeks back Alfred who has a Genesis Review thread here had a bunch of contests.  I was the lucky winner of the Random Retro Gaming Mystery Box, and it arrived in the mail today!  All I can say is wow!

And I forgot to include it in my pics, but this was also in the box...

/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-hero-pack.jpg

I was NOT expecting so much retro gaming goodness crammed into this little box (though it was like he played Tetris to get it all to fit - the thing was heavy!).

A big, huge thank you goes out to Alfred!

Off-Topic / Raffle: Nintendo GamePacks Box
09/16/2011, 09:17 PM
Hey all!  In the spirit of generosity that's plagued the forums recently I figured I'd take a crack at it as well.

IMG

Up for raffle is one complete box of Nintendo GamePacks!
(It's not Turbo-related, I know, but it's the best I could come up with on short notice...)

IMG

The box contains 48 unopened packs of cards.  Each pack contains 3 scratch-off cards and 2 stickers.

Here's a sample of what some of the stickers look like:

IMG

Truth Time:  They don't really stick very well these days.  I gave my 3 yr old a pack from another box earlier this week and they didn't stick very well.  But after being hit with a glue stick they were good as new. :) I took a complete collection of stickers and taped them together to form a poster and have it hanging in my office.

Here's a sample of the front of the scratch-off cards:

IMG

Truth Time: They don't  scratch off very well.  We tried to "play" the games that my son opened earlier this week and the coin I used ended up rubbing off both the silver and whatever it's supposed to cover.  These things were made 22 years ago...

Here's the back of the scratch-off cards.  They include very useful tips  :

IMG

Anyway, that's it.  I'll pull a name out of a hat sometime next week (I'm thinking Monday).  I'll make the drawing tonight, Tuesday, 9/20/2011.

Enjoy!

I got Spriggan today...

...and beat it.  (Though I had to use 1 continue on the final boss!)

IMG

I guess that means it's time to play it on a harder difficulty. :)  Man I love this game!

For something a little different I spent a good chunk of this evening playing this:
IMG

It's a Revell Proto CX.  It's a re-branded one of these:
My wife got it for me over a year ago and I played the hell out of it until I got cocky and took it outside and crashed it hard into a tree, breaking the landing gear and fuselage.  I finally got around to ordering replacement parts (glow-in-the-dark!) and got it up and running again and am having just as much fun as ever.  Probably won't take it outside again though. :)  The heli is so sensitive that it reacts differently when the AC kicks on in the house.

5 Minute Score:

I'm sure they'll be beaten in record time but figured if there weren't any scores yet for this game mode, it was high time to add some!

Quote from: thrush on 08/28/2011, 10:11 AMThanks for the recommendation Roflmao!  I also am a big fan of this style game; cause of schedule issue I don't get to play them much any more, so cheap + short are a winning combination!  ^__^
You bet!  I've played it a few more times since I posted and we've lost more than we've won, which makes for some crazy games.  Really fun stuff.

I'd also recommend Castle Panic:
http://www.amazon.com/Fireside-Games-1001FSD-Castle-Panic/dp/B002IUFSPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314676379&sr=8-1

IMG

It's another really intense co-op board game.  The goal is to keep a Castle from being overrun by hordes of monsters.  It's a little higher on the nerd scale because of the D&D/LOTR-ish theme, but it is all sorts of fun.  Games are still relatively quick (though a little longer than Forbidden Island - maybe 45 minutes) and it costs a little more (Looks like Amazon has it for about $25 shipped right now though it is probably a fair bit more at your local game store).
#263
It wasn't on a console, but while we were out RVing I picked up "Forbidden Island" at a nearby game shop and we played it this evening.  It was a real hoot!  Here's a link to the game on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Gamewright-317-Forbidden-Island/dp/B003D7F4YY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314503875&sr=8-1

IMG

It's a co-op game, is easy to learn, and the game is relatively quick (30 Minutes) which is a big bonus now that we have a 3 year old and are pretty wiped out after he goes to sleep.  I've been a big fan of Euro-style board games (Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Java, etc) for a long time now and this one snuck up on me.  It's great, and cheap.

Not quite as high as chanys but I thought it was still notable since the game lasted over an hour. :)

EDIT: This was on "Fast Ball".  Does anyone actually play "Slow Ball"?

Quote from: csgx1 on 07/06/2011, 10:49 PMThanks. It is 'little' and unfortunately can't hold any extras unlike yours.

Yours definitely has more functionality.  The interior reminds me a lot of the official Atari Lynx carrying case.  I like how you can carry an endless supply of power.  You can do some portable gaming for days! :D
Wow, you're right, it does look a lot like an old Lynx case, only gaudier! (I found this image on flickr)
IMG

If it were up to me, I wouldn't have any logos or text on the case indicating what's inside.  A big NEC logo (or in my case "Game Tote") just screams "Steal Me!"

Quote from: guest on 07/03/2011, 09:11 PMI recently got back from a camping trip and I brought my Express.  I completed Ninja Spirit on it, which I was a little surprised about.  I don't have a photo to prove it though. :(

Is there an existing thread about completing games on an Express?  I guess there probably isn't that much of a demand for one.  Most people would be crazy to try to complete a game on the Express. :)
You'll be able to complete it again, with teh pwoof. :)
This special request goes out to ceti alpha!

Quote from: Sadler on 07/04/2011, 12:17 AMI use a Samsonite business card holder similar to this one for loose HuCards. Sorry for the horrible cell phone pics!
I went the collectible card 3-ring binder route.  I picked up the sheets and the cheapest hard cover 3-ring binder at Target.  Please excuse the horrible masking job on the images.  I cranked these out really quickly.

IMG

Here's the front of the binder.  I found the logos online and printed them out on an 8.5"x11" sheet of paper.

IMG

And here it is open.  I added a little Scotch tape flap to the top layer because they kept wanting to slide out.  I love being able to see the artwork on the chips.  US gamers got robbed.  I need more PCE HuCards.

IMG

Behind the card sheets are sheets I found at one of the big office stores (I forget which one) that hold manuals for games I don't have cases for.  I think I originally read about these sleeves from the old Turbo Mailing List.  I think they are designed to hold audio cd covers for the folks who keep their audio cds in binders.

Those credit card sleeves that can be found on eBay are awesome for when I take the Express out.  Most of my games came with a sleeve but it was nice to get enough to cover my remaining games and have enough for games to come (or to give away to friends that need 'em) for only a couple of bucks.

Quote from: csgx1 on 07/06/2011, 06:17 PMI don't recall ever seeing an official PCE GT case.  If one exists it's probably extremely rare.

Here's what I've been using. I think it was a case for an old IBM pocket PC.  It fits like a glove. :)
That's an awesome little carrying case you've got there, csgx1.

Here's what I use for a carrying case.  It bulky and ugly, but has a sort of '90s charm that I find appealing.  It doesn't get out a whole lot, but I like taking it on RV trips and plan on taking it with me to San Diego later this month.

IMG

Here it is closed.

IMG

Here it is open.  It's nice to be able to carry around a half dozen games, and AC adapter, Turbo Vision (well, used to enjoy that one), Car Adapter, oodles of AA batteries, and a few manuals (or a small notepad and pencil for passwords), but man it's heavy and attracts a lot of funny looks.  :P

Please excuse the horrible masking job on the images.  I cranked these out really quickly.

My cousin recently returned from a trip to Japan.  When she left I jokingly mentioned on her fb page to pick me up a PC-Engine game while she was out there.

So completely unexpectedly, a package arrived in the mail today from her containing these:

IMG

Clockwise from top-left: Far East of Eden - Kabuki Den, Master of Monsters, Space Harrier, Space Battleship Yamato.  What a pleasantly unexpected surprise!  Aside from Space Harrier these games are very text heavy, so I guess this is a hint that I should give another go at learning the language (at least enough to work the menus!).

I've been meaning to make one of these posts for awhile so this is about a weeks worth of stuff. :P  First, I'll start with teh OBEY stuff:

IMG

Found Raiden Trad and R-Type DX at a local used bookstore for $5 ea.  Also stumbled across another copy of Military Madness, which I'll be trading for other OBEY goodness one of these days...

IMG

Received a couple more Chopsados today (Thanks again Chop5!).  Now I can leave one on my Arcade Card Pro and use these for HuCards.  Now on to teh non-obey:

IMG

I've been looking for a copy of Galactic Attack on the cheap for the Saturn for awhile and picked up this lot off ebay for $18 shipped!  Galactic Attack is pure awesome.  The Street Fighter Collection is pretty sweet as well.  Perhaps the diamond in the rough was Skull Fang, though.  That game is insane!  Awesome, challenging shooter.  These all came loose, and I really wish Skull Fang came with a manual (even though it's a Japanese import game) because when I watch the demo I see the ship doing all sorts of crazy things that I haven't figured out how to do yet.  I guess I'll have to hit up gamefaqs or youtube.

IMG
IMG

Last, and least, I picked this up at a neighborhood garage sale over the weekend for my boy.  The neighbors just gave it to me so I thought that was a pretty good find.  The little one loves it.  The wife, not so much. :)

Finished Sapphire today. :D

I didn't realize it was so short.  Awesome game.  I love that it is 2-player in case I ever have someone over who likes these sorts of games (which occurs almost as as often as a US Magical Chase sighting, lol).
#273
Beat Final Soldier today.  My first time finishing this game!

IMG

Does anyone know if it has a different ending if you finish it on anything other than Normal?

Also finished Ninja Spirit recently, but didn't post it at the time because it didn't seem like as big an achievement. :)

Wow, sounds awesome.  Those are some fun toys.  My next big purchase will likely be a motorcycle.  I recently got my permit and protective gear so I'm ready to ride!

This is Bertha.  She's not my daily driver, but I take her out as often as I can:
IMG

I feel your MPG woes, Terry.  On a good day Bertha gets 8 MPG.  But with a V10 engine that puts out over 450 HP and carries a small house what can you expect. :)
