Off-Topic / PS1 transformer toy
07/25/2014, 04:24 PM
http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/25/transforming-optimus-prime-playstation-is-best-thing-ever-4809908/

Just read that they're going to be releasing a toy PS1 that transformers into Optimus Prime. Apparently there will be PS2/3/4 variants as well. These look pretty cool, but are probably going to be limited to the Japanese market. Anyone thinking about importing one of these when they come out?

So I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this game for a few months or more now on Sept 24th... however, after browsing around on Gamestop's website, I see they now have the release date as 11/05??? I then did a quick Google search concerning this and everything still lists it as coming out on the original 9/27 date. Can anyone either confirm or deny this change or has heard anything about it?

Buy/Sell/Trade / Raffle... Ys III loose CD
06/29/2013, 02:01 PM
Obtained an extra copy of this game in a lot I purchased, however, it didn't include the manual or rear insert. I made a copy of the manual's front page and procured a Sparky rear insert for the "complete" look. Rules for the raffle are as follows:

- must have at least 200 posts
- cannot have more than half of your post count in the sales forums
- MUST play the game... even though its not like the traditional Ys games, it's still a ton of fun. You should enjoy this one, not let it sit on a shelf
- no resellers
- cannot already own a copy of this or intend to give this one to a friend

Decided I don't need a pair of these, so I'm letting one of my Turbo docking stations and attaching CD Rom drives go. Both pieces are in great shape and work as they should. There are a few minor scratches on the CD drive, but other than that, its really nice.

I'm also including a RetroGameCave A/C adapter, and a third party composite cable for hookup. And finally, I've got a PCE Super System Card and a chopsado to make it all work (although, I've never tested the PCE SSC, so I don't know if it works. If it doesn't, one can be had for less than $10). So all you need to play CDs and Super CDs is a TurboGrafx base system and controller. Here is a quick photo of what's included:

General Gaming / Project X Zone for 3DS...
06/25/2013, 05:10 PM
Anyone picking this up today? I'm heading out in about an hour to bring this badass looking game home and will dedicate the rest of the evening to it. Had to remove Devil Survivor Overclocked from my 3DS to make way for this one (even though I haven't finished it yet... I'm on Day 6).

So, has anyone else played this game yet? Or plan on picking it up?

General Gaming / PS4 revealed tomorrow...
06/09/2013, 07:42 PM
So tomorrow at E3 (6pm PST), Sony will finally show off the PS4 console. Hopefully they will also disclose some additional information on it: like will it need 24hr internet connection, play used games without a fee, etc. So far they've been pretty vague with details concerning those topics. Yes, they've said no constant internet connection will be required, and it will play used games... but so did Microsoft about their Xbox One. Later it was revealed that the new M$ console will in fact play used games, but with a fee. And it doesn't HAVE to be connected to the net 24/7, but it does need to be hooked up to it at least once a day for "updates" and the like. I'm praying Sony doesn't follow a similar path. If so, at least it's comforting, somewhat, knowing the Wii U has none of those attributes.

Thoughts? Opinions? Wish lists for the system?
#12
Picked up a Wii U last weekend and am trying to pick out a few games for it. The graphics and gameplay of this game look pretty cool, but I can't decide if it's a RPG, or an action game, or both. The online capability doesn't matter to me as I'm not into that aspect... how is it as a single player game? To those who have played or who own it, would you recommend buying this?

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Gamecube games/stuff
03/17/2013, 10:07 PM
Gotten into the Gamecube recently, and am looking to expand my library. Interested in mainly RPGs, racing, and fighting games, but possibly others as well. Let me know if any of you have anything you may want to get rid of. Also, looking for an extra controller, and either a black or platinum GC console (must have component out).

Also, I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has a component cable for the Gamecube that they want to sell, that would be REALLY sweet!
#14
So I've decided that instead of going after original games, I'm going to support all the guys making homebrew Turbo stuff for a while. I mean, how often do you get to buy brand new releases for a 20 year old system ? Not to mention., sales of their current games will hopefully encourage more new stuff to be created and released.

So, I guess I'll start with Pyramid Plunder since that was just released, then Mysterious Song. Are there any other fan made Turbo games out there ?

EDIT: boy, I'm a dumbass... there's a sticky with this info right at the top ](*,)
#15
I finally took the plunge and ditched my dual 40" LCD TVs in my gameroom in favor of a Sony WEGA 32" CRT. Already, I have noticed a difference in the picture quality hooking up my Turbos using composite. However, I know a better viewing experience can be had, and I'm looking to take the next step and S-Video modding my consoles. While there are threads about doing this to a base TG16 console, and a Turbo Duo system, I haven't seen anything about modding the CD docking station for those using a Turbo+CD setup. Has anyone done this? And if so, are there any detailed threads with photos of this modification?
#16
As the title states, I'm looking for one of the clear plastic HuCard holding clips that came inside the TG16 cases. I tried to carefully remove one cause it wouldn't really fit over my Flash Card, and one of the holding tabs broke off inside the case.

I know it's probably a long shot that someone not only removed one, but saved it and didn't need it, but figured I'd post before I shell out for a random cheapie sports title and bastardize it's case.
#17
I've been replacing all my used Turbo Chip sleeves with Seymor Onion repros, and I have the originals just sitting around collecting dust. Figured maybe someone here could use them as spares or would want them. Remember, I swapped these out for new ones, so alot of them are dirty, discolored, etc. Maybe they will clean up, maybe they won't... I never tried.

So, I have 15 of these... and I'm going to split them up into 3 lots of 5 sleeves. First 3 people that respond to this post (no PMs... makes it easier to judge first come/first serve) can have them, no charge.

A quickie photo:

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Turbo CD drive
02/15/2013, 06:02 PM
As the title states, I'm looking for a US TurboGrafx CD drive. I already have the base system, and docking station... just lacking the CD player itself.

Anyone have a spare they'd be willing to part with?
#20
So all the US Turbos are black in color, and most of the Japanese PC Engines are white (with the exception of the GT, Core Grafx II and the original Duo). But, what would a US TurboGrafx-16 look like if colored white?

I have a spare TG-16 and CD docking station, and I believe Keith Courage has a few PCE CD drives still availible... see where I'm going with this? Would it be considered blasphemous to paint a TG-16 console and docking station white and add the PCE CD drive to it for a different look? I'd probably leave the "fins", the logo, and the power button on the main TG-16 console black just for some contrast.

Thoughts? Anyone done something like this?
#21
Got a extra, loose copy of Neutopia with original sleeve so I'm gonna raffle it off to the forum! I loved this Zelda-clone as a kid... unfortunately my original was lost when my parents moved back in '96. Didn't aquire another copy until about a month ago, and then this copy also fell into my lap recently. Its in gamer's condition, as it looks as though a peice of scotch tape was stuck to the bottom of the HuCard and left for awhile. When removed (not by me), it took a few specs of the blue paint off. You can see this in the photos below. However, it works perfectly, regardless of the minor cosmetic defect.

Entrants must have at least 100 posts to qualify. Please only enter if you do not already have a copy of this game. I'll cover shipping costs (even across the border). Raffle ends this Sunday, the 11th. Good luck!

I know this is technically an "18+" game, but is it fun to play beyond the mild cartoonish nudity? Thinking about picking this one up, as the wife is really into card games and I think she may play this one, too.

I've seen the youtube video (for those who haven't seen it...
but it dipicts a weird card game I've never heard of before. Would have rather seen the blackjack or poker games.

So, anyone have this that cares to comment?

So I recently aquired a Duo RX with an awesome RGB mod and SCART cable. However, no CRT or LCD/Plasma TV in the States is equipped with the provisions to hook this cable up to. Wondering what you guys are doing or what converters are being used to make this connection a reality. I reeeeaaaaally want to see all my favorite games with the sharpness this input can provide.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Duo R for sale
10/18/2012, 08:46 PM
Looking to sell my loose PC Engine Duo R. Its original (no region mods, no caps replaced, etc), but everything works as it should. No sound issues. Originally bought from Hit-Japan. Console is white as it should be, but the controller is starting to yellow some. Comes complete with A/C adapter, A/V cables, console, and controller. $200 shipped in the continental US.

EDIT: Took some more photos, with the resolution on my cellphone set as high as it would go under the direct lighting of a standard 60 watt bulb. Unit doesnt have any yellowing that I can see, however, the Duo R isnt a bright white (like an original PC Engine). It seems to be a grey-ish white (and I've been told this is normal for these consoles). As shown in the pictures, there is no color variation between the outside of the unit, and underneath the card slot or CD drive. If the unit was yellow or starting to yellow, there would be a noticeable difference in those areas. Hope this helps.

Ever since I saw the Turbo Duo promo VHS tape back in the day that showcased this game, I've wanted to play it. I had the first one when I was younger (and I still have my original from way back then), and loved it. Figured the sequel on a SCD format, had to kick just as much ass if not exceed the first. Fast forward 20 years and, while I have the disposable income to make the purchase, theres no way in HELL I'm shelling out hundreds of dollars for it. Nope, uh-uh, not gonna happen. So I did what any true fan of the game/series would do... made a $20 offer to Hit-Japan, he accepted, the game was mine.

So, my question is this... having never played the game myself, how do those who have, rate it? How does it stack up to the original? Any suggestions or tips for certain points in the game where I may become stuck (while not giving everything away completely)?

It'll be arriving probably by the beginning of next week... cant wait to pop it in the Duo R and finally get to enjoy this game!
#26
So I received a Duo R in the mail today, and to test it to see if it works, I decided to play Sapphire (that way, I can test both the HuCard slot and the CD function at the same time). So I popped in my Arcade Card, loaded the disc, and turned the system on. Up came the screen telling me to press run, which I did, and the disc booted up. Satisfied so far, I went into the kitchen to get something to drink.

When I came back, the screen was black, and there was a "whirring" sound coming from the Duo (the disc was spinning basically). I reset the console (using run+select) and the startup screen came up again. Once more I pressed run, and the disc began to spin... and spin, and spin, and spin... but nothing happened (I get the "please wait" message). So I tried a different CD witout the need for an Arcade Card. Same result. Also, if it matters, the lens position is all the way in the center of the disc (or, as far to the left as it can go).

Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? I want to try and resolve this issue myself before I send it out to someone.

Looking for a base system TurboGrafx 16.  Don't need any of the cables, controllers, or rear cover. Must be working.

Thanks!
#28
So I recently sold my Duo and now have no way to play Japanese HuCards or Super CDs (some unexpected expenses came up... I was planning on purchasing a Duo R or Rx and now cant afford one). I have an Arcade Card Duo, and a region modded TurboGrafx with CD attachment... however, to make the Arcade CDs (and SCDs) playable on the Turbo/CD I need a Arcade Pro. Anyone interested in trading a Pro for a Duo card? If theres a price difference between the 2, obviously I'd be willing to bridge the gap.

So way back in the day when I was a kid, I remember reading various video game mags and seeing ads for Neo Geo systems and games. Man, and my parents thought the TG-16 was expensive! Always wanted one of those systems, gawked over the photos in those ads and dreamed... but of course, being 12/13 there was no way in hell I could ever afford one.

Fast forward to the present... I have some disposable income now and can possibly pick one of these systems up. I've done a little research and found that some of the games are SUPER expensive. Can anyone recommend me some of the inexpensive titles that are still fun to play? Also, I've heard alot of these games are being bootlegged and are almost impossible do discern them from the originals. Are these mainly the more expensive titles, or are even the cheaper ones being faked as well? Finally, are the Neo Geo forums the better placde to aquire such games & systems, or is there other places to check?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: US Turbo Duo
09/07/2012, 09:51 PM
Well, its time to bite the bullet and shell out for one of these systems. I've owned a PC Engine Duo before, but never a US Turbo Duo. Always wanted one of these when I was a kid... even sent away for the promo video and watched it 10 times a day, drooling. But alas, I never could afford one when I was 13 years old :(

Anyway, prefer one complete (with hookup cables and controller) as well as region modded (RGB would be great too), but I'll take whatever I can get... loose, broken, anything!

Let me know!
#31
I started over in this game again, mostly because its really fun to play (I kinda love running into monsters to kill them, its addicting), but also because when I sold my PC Engine Duo, I lost my save. I'm playing it again on my Turbo/CD combo now (which I'm never gonna sell, so no lost saves).

It took me no time at all to wipe out everything in the Shrine and find all the Silver equipment (tho, I remember thinking they should have called this game "Keys"... I mean I found 5 of them in the Shrine alone!), and am now in the Mine. So I plowed through that area fairly easy and got to the boss... ugh. It was that damn bird guy that splits into bats... I HATE that guy! Took me almost a day of off and on playing the first time to beat him! Anyone else have problems with this bastard? I can't wait to move past him and go to Darm tower...

EDIT: I leveled up til the Firebird enemies only give me 1 Ex point (I have 90 Hp)... time to try again

Buy/Sell/Trade / PC Engine Duo for sale
08/23/2012, 07:56 AM
I know this is technically a Japanese Duo and not an American version (and maybe should be in the PCE sales section), but I noticed a few guys are looking for a way to play CDs and SCDs, and this machine will play the American as well as Japanese CDs/SCDs, so...

I'm putting up my PC Engine Duo for sale. Bought it originally from hit-japan on ebay. Unit works perfect, no sound issues, although it has not been recapped. It is also not region modded, so no American HuCards will work. Very minor scratches on unit (barely noticeable). Every once in awhile, the CD lid will pop open (never while I've been playing a CD) so I always use the lock button. This may be the nature of these units, or the catch is getting a little weak. Other than that, there are no issues with this system. Just pop in your games and play.

System is complete with original A/C adapter, A/V cable, controller, and system. It does not come with the box or instructions. Priced firmly at $120 shipped in the CONUS. I'll post a few photos later in the day

OK, when I popped this game in and began to play, I knew it was an 18+ game. I figured it'd show some nudity. What I wasn't prepared for, was just how much and... the text! I mean, wow! The dialog is just crazy! I wish I could post some pictures of what I mean (I snapped a few so the wife could see, I doubt she would've believed me). Man, it's going to be fun trying to unlock every photo of each girl. In a strange way, I'm kinda addicted to this game. Never thought...

So, has anyone ever gotten every still shot of each girl  ? And is it possible to finish the game with every one (so far I've only been able to "end" the game with Shouko... got "dumped" by Reika) ? Does it depend on your stats at the end ?

... just an FYI, I've never played an 18+ game before, so I'd believe if you've played games like this you probably won't be as shocked as I was. But for me, well... imagine going from Bonk's Adventure to this!

As requested, here are some photos of the game:

OK... so I logged onto the BestBuy website, and it claims the Nintendo 3DS XL is going to be released tomorrow. I always thought most new releases were on Tuesdays (in this case, Aug 21st). So when is the 3DS XL going to be released? I couldnt find any conclusive info online through a google search.

Anyone picking up one of these when it comes out?

Background:

Back in September 2011, I purchased a Sharp 60" LED/LCD TV. 1080p, 240hz, 4,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Definitely an awesome TV to watch blurays on. I loved it. Fast forward to Feb 2012, and my wife and I were having an arguement, and as I walked over to the entertainment center to remove the bluray we were watching, I heard something "thunk" above my head. Slowly I looked upwards and noticed the TV was no longer on, and the remote was lying on the ground. Thats right... she threw the remote at me, missed, and hit the screen. Holy fucking shit.

I attempted to turn the TV back on, but alls I got was a black screen, with what looked like an impact mark and colored lines running from top to bottom where the remote had collided. There was no damage to the screen, however. So I assumed that part of the LCD panel behind the screen was damaged. So, instead of just chalking it up as a loss, I'm gonna try to take it apart and see exactly whats damaged, and try to repair or replace the affected parts. If I cant, well, it was trash to begin with anyway. So far I have removed all the screws, and power cable, and am gonna lift the back of the TV off to get to the internals. Heres a photo of it lying on my twin bed in my gameroom:

So... this part of the forum doesnt get much activity so I figured I'd post something. Since I just got into the PC-FX, I dont really have anything to sell... but maybe some of you guys have been kicking around the idea of getting rid of some stuff/dupes/etc?

So thats basically it...

oh, and id be ESPECIALLY interested in Zenki or Zeroigar...though I know no one is going to want to get rid of those!
#38
Currently I'm running my PC-FX off of a 2009 40" Samsung LCD TV using composite cables. I've been hearing alot about how CRT TVs and S-video connections will improve the quality of the video output of older game systems. The question is, is this difference significant enough to warrant a change in my gameroom? Currently, my LCD TV does not have an S-video connection, so composite is the best I can do with the current arrangement.

I suppose I could do a quick test, as I have an old RCA TV in my son's room from (model year 1999/2000) that I believe to have an S-video input, and hook the PC-FX up to it to see for myself. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the switch? Yes or no, and why?

BTW, I found what I think to be a good deal on a CRT TV setup on my local craigslist. Would this be the way to go if switching to CRT/S-video is a must?

Since so many raffles are going off this month, and since I won a really cool raffle recently, I decided its my turn to offer up another freebie to the forum.

This time its a loose copy of Final Lap Twin. Sleeve included. Game is in excellent shape, and plays great. Shipping is free to the continental USA, however I do ask that international winners please contribute towards shipping. No rules on this raffle, anyone can enter. Winner will be chosen at random on Sat, Aug 18th. Good luck!

Since the PC-FX seems to deal rather well with burns, I'd imagine many of its owners would rather own burned copies of some of the more expensive titles rather than shelling out the bucks for the actual games.

So how many of you guys actually own liscensed copies of Zenki or Zeroigar (or some of the other $100+ titles such as Tokimeki Card Paradise, etc)?
#41
So I've been tracking the progress of my PC-FX as it traveles from Canada to my home ever since it shipped (what can I say, I'm excited). And according th USPS.com, it should arrive today! So I've read about an english text version of this game and was wondering how to obtain it. Apparently I need a "patch" to replace the japanese text with english. Do I need to purchase the original game, and apply the patch to it? Or is do I need to purchase a already burned copy with the patch in place?

I'm not to familiar with the procedure, if someone could explain it to me I'd greatly appreciate it!

Getting out of the Genesis for awhile, so I figured maybe someone on here would want the few items I had. Up for sale are the following (prices do not include shipping):

- Model 2 Genesis with original A/C adapter, an aftermarket A/V cable, 1 original Sega controller, and 1 retropad 6 button controller  - $25
- Shining in the Darkness, complete with clamshell box and manual, great shape - $10
- Phantasy Star 3, loose, great shape - $7
- Phantasy Star 2, loose, top of label is worn, plays and saves great tho - $5
- Mortal Kombat 2 with clamshell box, good shape, no instructions - $5

All prices are negotiable. Thanks for looking!

Update: No longer need a system

First, I'd like to start out by stating I've noticed there isn't a whole lot of activity on theres forums dedicated to the last of the breed NEC console. Why is that? I sincerely hope the interest in the PC-FX isn't fading just as I start to have an interest in it.

Second, I've been doing a little research on this console (through this website, google, youtube, etc), and it seems like its worth looking into. The PC-FX has sparked my curiosity and I'd like to dive into this machine and its library headfirst. I've owned a TG16 since 1989, dabbled in some PCE stuff in the last year, and now want to go deeper into the NEC legacy by taking the 32-bit leap.

Third, do you guys have any recommendations on where to pick up one of these consoles? There's Hit-Japan on ebay... but he wants $170 (negotiable) + $105 air mail shipping for a good condition, boxed console. Have any of you ever done the standard, by sea shipping (which is half the cost, but could take 2+ months to arrive... yikes!). He also has a broken unit for $40... do these things have any common problems that are easily repaired like the PC Engine Duos cap replacements? Or when they break are they just paperweights?

Finally, what games do you guys recommend for a guy starting out in the PC-FX world? Japanese text/language doesn't intimidate me that much.

Thanks for your time, and hopefully I can start enjoying this console soon!

So I'm having my CD Rom unit repaired, and I have the required A/V cables and A/C adapter (as well as the System 2.0 card necessary to play non-SCDs)... however, I'm lacking the docking base to put it all together and play CD Roms on my original Turbo Grafx system. Anyone out there have an extra one in decent shape they'd like to part with?

I'm currently watching one on ebay, but I'd rather do business with a forum member (and who knows how crazy the price may go on semi-obscure TG16 stuff like this).

Let me know

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: loose HuCards
07/21/2012, 07:49 PM
Recently, I've been on a NES/SNES kick, but I think its time to show the Turbo some love after a few months of neglect. As I just ordered some new HuCard sleeves from Seymor Onion's website, I now could use a few loosies to fill them. Looking for anything I don't already have (unless you want to sell me a "lot", in this case I'll raffle off the games in said lot that I already have)... from commons to rarities, shooters to platformers. Just trying to expand my Turbo library really.

Here's what I already have:

- Blazing Lazers
- Cadash
- Double Dungeons
- Dungeon Explorer
- Keith Courage
- Legendary Axe
- Side Arms
- World Class Baseball

Forgot to add, I dont have anything for trade, as my collection at this point is too small and doesn't include any dupes. Cash (paypal) would be what I have to exchange for the games. Thanks!

OK, a few months back I won this game in a raffle on here, and have since aquired a complete copy. So I'm re-raffling it so someone else can enjoy this awesome Turbo classic! Auction is for the HuCard and sleeve only. The HuCard has some light scratching, but game is 100% playable. Shipping will be free to the 48 state USA... anywhere else, I ask you please pay for shipment. No restrictions on entering, as I was (and still kinda am) a noob when I won this. Winner will be drawn on July 31st. Good luck!

EDIT: unfortunately, I'm going to have to hold on to the case. I've got a lot of loose HuCards coming, some with manuals, and I'm gonna need this case to use to complete one of those games with a Sparky label. Sorry to those who were anticipating a case/game... but it looks as though its just gonna be a game/sleeve raffle. Again, my apologies

So I found a copy of Neutopia real cheap... however the owner claims a failed region mod damaged the game, resulting in a white screen only upon powering on with this game. Is this possible? what are the chances he just F'ed up his Turbo or the contacts just need to be polished or cleaned? Would it be worth it to purchase and try to fix if its likely damaged?

First off I wanna say what I'm about to ask (on a PCE forum) may be borderline blasphemous,... so I'm asking, please dont be to harsh in your responses!!

Anyway, I have Ys Book 1&2 on CD for the Turbo, and recently bought Ys 4 for the PCE. Now I'm looking to complete the set with Ys 3. Of course, I'd prefer to get it for the Turbo CD, however, its kinda costly (ebay prices seem to be around the $50 and I havent had much luck finding it elsewhere for cheaper). I have noticed the SNES version is much much cheaper, even on ebay. So... strictly for playing the game (and maybe eventually picking up the Turbo version when it presents itself), would playing the SNES version in the meantime be totally out of the question (from a Turbo fans point of view)?

Constructive comments, especially differences and pros/cons of each version, are welcome
