Quote from: guest on 02/08/2014, 01:56 PMThat was a great commercial. But why didn't they just stick with the Gunhed  title? And create better box art? I'm telling you, the NEC/Hudson/TTI marketing team needs its ass kicked!!
Gunhed was a tie-in with a manga/anime (don't remember which) and I suppose it would have meant licensing fees etc. I'm sure a few gfx were changed to take any references to the Gunhed manga/anime out. Box art is a different story though...I can't excuse that.

Yeah, I would always try and buy a few games at a time from Hit-Japan. They're always willing to do deals and I've never once paid a customs charge on anything they sent me :D

That Secret of Mana advert is pretty nice. In the UK we didn't really have too many TV adverts for videogames during the early 90s (at least not many I can remember), and even now there are only the odd occasional advert for big releases and they end about 2 weeks after release date.

This. And if RARE isn't in the title of an ebay listing it really isn't worth having (or it will possible be removed by ebay for violation of the service agreement)...oh and RoyVegas had it right, the Nes isn't worth playing either :P

Quote from: guest on 02/06/2014, 10:25 AMMaybe a consolized version would be better for me.
That would be one hell of a mod to perform :D and it'd probably look headache-inducing on such a big screen.

I loved the NGPC and it does have a small, pretty decent game library. The fighters are awesome and it does have a few RPGs/SRPGs that are worth your time. If you don't mind Japanese then the Wonderswan is awesome...all kinds of vertical/horizontal awesomenss.

Quote from: TR0N on 02/05/2014, 02:03 AMThat's often why it's best to import for the saturn just like with TG16.When i was buying for the saturn, many years ago i had the common sense to keep what i bought for it.Good thing to given how games such as pds cost a fortune now.
This is the best advice for the Saturn. Domestic (UK and US) games are expensive and really, you can get the same enjoyment out of most them with you can use translation guide etc to get just as much out of them with just a little more hassle. I'm glad I had a Saturn when they current and picked most of the games up when they were reduced in bargain bins. I remember picking up PDS for £30 on release and I still have that copy...I wouldn't like to go out and buy it now.

It looks great but in the UK we're only getting the standard edition and that comes out on 21st Feb. Looking forward to it though and good work.

Those guys don't happen to be the same guys on the cover of this do they?

I always forget how bad adverts were back in the day, but I think the games they showed did show off the Turbo pretty well...just those two guys dancing to the CD add on killed me

The riffing part was ok, I guess, but like you know I'm not a big fan.

This is high my list of PC-FX wants along with Der Langrisser (I know you can pretty much get it on all systems of that era but I don't care :-") and Last Imperial Prince. Is it a sequel to the Startling Odyssey series or just made by the same developers?

If you can't find a part number the above is probably going to be your only option, unless somebody else knows the part number or an equivalent.

At the moment I am currently playing...Twinbee. It's amazing how much the Famicom version put me off this game series, but I'm actually enjoying this one.

Quote from: PunkCryborg on 02/05/2014, 01:14 PMYoukaidouchuuki was really hard too for how short of a game it is. Took me maybe 13 hours (3-4 hours a night for a couple nights) of playing over and over to beat a 25 minute game
This...and also Cyber Cross, but maybe I mean painful. I didn't like that game at all.

Cool. Enter me...if I'm eligible

If you want to sell I might take it off your hands and try and fix it...try being the most important word in that sentence

I remember reading an article in C&VG here in the UK with a picture of the white PC Engine and a montage of screen shots from R-Type, Bonk and a few others. I remember seeing the white machine and thinking it looked much nicer than my brother's Megadrive.

Storage was expensive back in the earlier days and by the time the megabit per £/$/ ¥ came down the CD-ROM attachment was out and the space vs. cost on a CD-ROM was way more efficient than ROMs.

I really enjoyed the Tengai Makyo series and is about as old-school/Dragon Quest feeling RPG I've played on the PC Engine. Lots of guides etc about as well. I loved Manji Maru but my favourite was probably Kabuki Den because it was so wacky and crazy.

Edit: Forgot to say, the Cosmic Fantasy series is very much in the DQ vein as well. I think it's a nice series (even if the first one is very hard and grind-y in places) and you'll probably enjoy it if you enjoyed DQ.

Most of my CD games are RPGs...I'm a sucker for RPGs - The Tengai Makyo series, Gulliver Boy, Dragon Slayer 1 + 2, Emerald Dragon and a quite a few more. Really though, I'm missing Ys from my collection at the moment. Don't have a single Ys game...yet.

For Hucards I've got around 20 including Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier, PC Denjin, Detana Twinbee, Neutopia...and again a few more obscure RPGs (Momotarou, Necross, Sindibad).

Next on the list are more Hucard shmups and Splatterhouse and CD-Rom shmups probably starting with Lords/Winds of Thunder and Ys 1 & 2 (because I'm seriously missing out here).

I also picked up Farland Story on PC-FX for around £3 posted so I'll give that a go in an emu and see if it'll convince me to pick up a PC-FX later on.

NEC Console Resource / Hi all

Hi there everyone, just wanted to introduce myself as I'm new to the forums. I'm from the UK and have been a PC Engine fan since I saw one in magazines like CVG and Mean Machines when I was younger. It wasn't until I was 20 that I actually bought a PCE Duo which I later went on to sell. It was the only console I ever regretted selling, so last year I bought another one...and a Core Grafx 2 and a standard White PC :D I had to make up for the years that I didn't have one.

Anyway, that's just a little about me and my PCE fetish.
