Was just wondering the other day how feasible and difficult it would be to hack Cosmic Fantasy 2 to have updated graphics and more balanced encounter rates, magic and hit damage, etc..? I would think the stat stuff would be simple enough to tweak, but how bout the graphic stuff? I was thinking since CF2's tileset variety is so limited, you could probably rip CF4's graphics and find place for them easily in CF2. Could CF2 even be upgraded to Super System Card format for additional RAM and faster load times?

Saw this article on the front page of Yahoo. Amazingly, the author actually mentions the TG16 and PCE, even moreso that I don't think I've heard heard about these secret messages in Chase HQ and Chuka Taisen! Anyone try this?

At last, it's time for the Mysterious Song check disc raffle! There are 15 contestants (sorry Arkhan, I excluded you since you get to keep the Mysterious Insanity disc). A $5 - $9 donation receives one entry into the raffle, $10 - 14 receives two, $15 - 19 receives three, $20 - 24 receives four, and $25 and over receives a maximum of 5 entries. I will be using random.org's random number generator to determine the winners.

The first drawn winner will receive this fully-working replicated "check disc" for the final, complete form of Mysterious Song.

/awpclw.jpg

And the follow-up winner will receive this badass hand drawn bonus artwork by CrackTiger!

These prizes will be sent from two separate locations, so shipping time will vary.

I will be posting the randomized user list and winners in the following posts! Good luck!

Been playing the Japanese version of Dynastic Hero and made it to the Sphinx's quiz game. Of course since I no speaky de Japanese, I have no way of comprehending the questions. My tactic so far has been to write down the first few characters of each question on paper for as many new questions I can find and then determine the answer by process of elimination. I have 9 questions written down, many with the correct answer indicated, but it's still hard to match up the characters and submit the answer in time for the 10 second (ish) limit.

Anyone have any tips for this part? Screenshots for all the answers even? I may have to load the game up in a emulator and take screenshots myself and post them here for future reference.

How retarded is this - dvice.com/archives/2011/06/capcom-tries-to.php .

May not matter so much for this game specifically, but it's still lame and redundant. More property rights being taken from us by the industry.

I am trying to figure out what game Aaron used in the Turbo Express on the forum banner! It always came off to me as Blazing Lazers, but maybe it's something else. Lets blow the image up:

/turboexpress.jpg

Soldier Blade maybe? Also looks like it could pass as a platformer, I'm getting a Shockman vibe.

As many are aware, Mysterious Song has been on the verge of completion for a waaay overdue time now and the only thing holding us back at this point are the cut scenes. CrackTiger has completed the vast bulk of the cinematic art needed for MSR but there are still three screens needed to finish off the project for good. What we need is a sketcher that is talented enough to recreate a style consistent with CrackTiger's work so we can implement it and finally get this game out the door!

This position would require NO animation, only digitized sketches depicting outlines of two of the main characters and a portrait of random humans scattered about. Familiarity of the 9-bit color palette is not necessary, we could handle the coloring part ourselves if needed. If anyone is interested in fulfilling this much needed task, or knows anyone that can, please reply to this thread and we will contact you with further information.

Here are some samples of CrackTiger's excellent work as a reference.

Lets all see to it that MSR makes it to the fanbase hands this year!

The acient debate has resurfaced.

I vote Cosmic Fantasy 2. It had it's share of ugly and generic looking enemies, but for the most part they were a whole lot more creative than Dragon Slayer's cast of goons.

Fighting Street / Male Infant Circumcision
03/31/2009, 06:09 PM
After reading the abortion thread, I decided to start a thread dealing with another controversial American issue: male infant circumcision. Is anyone else on here as against it as I am? Being one of the very few (and fortunate) Americans to be uncut, it's a topic you'll get into soon enough when you're old enough to find out that something is different about you (or rather, everyone else). I've briefly got into my stance on this a couple times on here before, but I'm really interested in hearing everyone else's. I really think circumcising an infant is against that child's rights with the only exceptions being religious or absolute medical reasons -- and this is coming from someone who's religion practices this more than anyone else!

Off-Topic / Xenophobia and Racism in Japan
03/04/2009, 11:04 PM
This is a topic I've been interested in for years, but don't know a whole lot about it. I recently came across this thread while doing research and found the first page to be extremely intriguing. I know there are some members here (Tatsujin! :D ) who has moved to Japan and I would be interested in hearing their thoughts on this. Is this really significant in Japan or are people over-exagerrating? From what I gather, Japanese people think very differently on these subjects than we do in the west and are only xenophobic/racist in an unknowing, polite kind of way.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Turbo Grafx 16 LT?
11/23/2008, 03:02 AM
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEC-TURBO-GRAFX-16-LT-SYSTEM-U-S-GAMES-NOT-PC-ENGINE_W0QQitemZ220315444830QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games?hash=item220315444830&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1240|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

The seller claims (in Engrish, of course) that this is a rare Turbo Grafx 16 version of the PC Engine LT, despite the PC Engine logo still being shown in one obscured photo. What could it be exactly? I don't see any kind of region switches on it. Is he plugging in a TG16/PCE console into the LT and displaying the picture on it in the photo where it's turned on?

Here's just a little demo me and tomaitheo/Bonknuts made for Turbo Fest 2008 at the Midwest Gaming Classic. It's just a hack of another pong demo on PCE with new graphics made by moi. We had more plans for it, but had to get the basic design done in time for the convention. Enjoy!

Turbo Pong

Keep in mind that this is an ISO and not a ROM, so you'll need to virtually mount it or burn it. Sorry for that inconvience, we had to use ISO at the time since it would be running off CD at the convention. I'll see if tom can compile a ROM version later.

Just seeing if there is anyone interested in purchasing a JAMMA PCB for the Kaneko arcade fighting game Shogun Warriors. I've had this game laying in my room for awhile since I bought it for emulation purposes, but I don't ever play it or plan on playing it much. If anyone wants to buy or trade for it, I'll gladly make the transaction. If not, will probably try eBaying it. Kaneko fans might be interested in this.

Hello.

Any other cigar aficionados here? I know Murder Date is one since we like to send PMs about stogies we've smoked.

I smoke about one cigar per month and it's always nice to light up a nice, premium cigar outside and enjoy the scenary. I'd still consider myself an amateur aficianado, but I think I'm on my way to becomming a full one soon. I love Romeo y Julietas, but I'm always exploring different brands and types.

Last cigar I smoked was a Punch after dinner cigar, which was a very nice smoke. Had a great taste and the taste was pretty consistent throughout the whole session. Burned nicely, but I didn't get as long of an ash as I had hoped. Was only like $4.75 and well worth it.

Cigar smokers only please.

General Gaming / CRAPCOM
07/11/2008, 02:19 AM
I've finally gotten around to putting up the first chapter of a series I am writing called "CRAPCOM" :P . I know a crapload of people aren't going to agree, but I'm trying to be as moderate as possible (as I hope anyone who debates with me is as well), while trying to throwing in some humor here and there. I plan on writing a ton more, so this is only a snipet. Even if you're a die hard Capcom fan, you might still enjoy reading it for all the historical research I did just for this chapter alone - which I had a lot of fun doing because I really got to learn about a ton of old, revolutionary arcade shooters.

General Gaming / Star Soldier R
05/19/2008, 10:57 PM
Star Soldier R is out today! Did anyone besides me download it? I played it for about a half hour, it's pretty fun! Gameplay is same old stuff, but the online rankings really brings life to it. I had the 25th high score in 2 minute mode regionwide, but was knocked down to 26th soon after posting it. I like how Japan's lowest scores are higher than America's highest, but then again it's been available out there longer than here.

Oh and I managed to get 10 taps per second in the tap mode thing. I kinda cheated though because I swiped my finger left and right over the button.
#37
This time it's for video game logos - http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/galleries/worst-console-logos-ever/?page=1 .

How is Turbo Express on there? That's just a way average logo, nothing great or wrong with it. Even more strange is how they list the TG16 logo in their greatest logo list when you'd think these people would hate it. I can't believe Neo Geo's was on there, that logo is just the coolest.
#38
I just made it to him for the second time and I have no idea how you would effectively kill this guy. It seems there is no room at all to manuever once he sends those green bomb seeking things, which come at you as soon as you appear. The only tactic I've found is to charge at him while you're invisible attacking with your thrusters while charging a bomb.
#39
I was wondering if the continue code in Power Drift (hold I + II and press RUN at the game over screen) is mentioned in the instruction manual in the game? Just asking because that way I know if this "code" will make me a cheater or not  .

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Baku Den
01/21/2008, 11:49 PM
This is an extremely obscure PCE game with virtually no information at all, so I thought I'd make a thread for it. If you don't speak Japanese, it's definitely best to skip this game as it's a four hour long static cartoon with some wacky humor, but it's mostly just Japanese dialog the whole time and gets really boring. Read more about my thoughts on it here.

Anyways, much like the Addam's Family thread, the other reason I am posting this thread is to help out any masochists that decide to sit through this game get through the end level "bosses", which really just uses the process of elimination. The orders go as follows:

Level 1
First select the saber tooth tiger character, then the fish, then the beatle, and then the ostrich.

Level 2
First select the second option from the left, then the fourth, then the third, and the the first.

Level 3
First select the second option from the left, then the first, then the third, and then the fourth.

For those interested in trying it, you can pick it up for the typical cheap PCE game price, but it's not really worth it other than just seeing what it is. :P
#41
The main reason I made this thread is to help out people who are playing this game and don't want to figure out the order of entrances you have to take when you're in the underground labyrinth.

The first spot with multiple entrances is a basement like place with a brickwall and three tunnels that take you to different parts of the mansion. Don't take any tunnels and move onto the next screen to the right!

The next spot will feature five chains hanging down from the ceiling for you to pull on. Pull on the third one.

And lastly the next area that requires you to choose a path will consist of four or five doors. Take the third door.

Anyways, this game is decent!

Here's an interview with that John Lee dealing with Turbo CD games on the Virtual Console - http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/specialArt.cfm?artid=14527 .

You all saw this coming  .

High Scores

#1 kenomac: 505,250
#2 Keranu: 282,600

/jjjeff007bp7.png

I should note that I did use the green spring a few times in level three because I couldn't find the key! I'm not sure if using green springs should be allowed or not, but since there probably aren't going to be any other serious players, I don't think it will matter :P .

Got the score on my first try and using an emulator, I was pretty impressed with myself.
#46
This thread is screaming for your name, 2X4 ;) .

Default Mode

#1 COUNT SMRIFNACK: 1,042,200
#1 PCEngineHell: 386,200
#2 Keranu: 90,800

Hard Mode

#1 Nat: 100,000 (completed with two credits and needs video proof)

/splatterhouse001gk3.png

Yeah I kinda blew it this turn (I was using an emulator :P ), but I'll probably try getting a higher score later. I was using the default difficulty, so please indicate if you use the trick to set it to hard mode.

A reminder to everyone competing in this game, I think the only way to see your score is on the actual ingame screen so you have to quickly snap a picture, screenshot, or write it down immediately after you die!

Important Note: Helgeson made a good suggestion in this thread that players posting scores on hard mode will need video proof from beginning to end so it's not faked as a default mode score. Scores without video proof will be noted.

I have a few scores from Turbo games I've saved on my computer some months back after beating them, so I'll be posting them.

This is my score after beating the game through the Japanese version and I specify the Japanese version incase the American version made any difficulty changes like other games (Sinistron):

Dead Moon (U.S.A.)

4,861,400 - Obfuscate
3,830,100 - RoyVegas
3,433,300 - geise
3,319,900 - DesmondThe3rd
1,977,500 - Necromancer
1,928,100 - DQ187
1,745,500 - chany60126
1,632,700 - lukester

Dead Moon (Japan)

829,400 - Keranu

Probably easy to beat.
