I've seen and played on this system and it is in good working order, and loads games very well. Very quiet and no warm up issues. Cosmetic condition is good as well.
#152
Any more news on this?
#153
It's actually a gif of one of the sprites from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game
#154
Got mine yesterday, top notch stuff as always. Now I just need to get a white CD case for it and it'll be perfect!
#155
Ohhh, can't wait to get mine. Thanks again Sparky, the printing work is top notch, couldn't be happier with the labels I already bought from you.

Quote from: malicedoom on 01/25/2011, 01:00 PMI tell ya, it seems like when the product was first available, there wasn't as much interest THEN as there is NOW (yes, our marketing dept., for most of the original run anyway, really sucked - sad, but true).
I swear I could have run the marketing dept. better when I was like 12 years old back then. In addition to that I'm pretty sure I could have made MUCH better decisions on what games to translate and bring to the US. SO many great Japanese games were overlooked for one reason or another.

Also, who the hell was in charge of cover art for the game boxes and manuals! Idiots! They should have just slapped English titles on the Japanese art and called it good, I am 100% convinced that a lot of people saw the box art for TG games and instantly went and bought a Genesis.
#157
Yeah the color is more true than in the pic. I don't mind the black corners personally, easier to line up the label properly. I can't beleive how poorly some of the factory labels were actually applied as side note.
#159
I see a lot on the list that I would love to have, prices too high for me at this time though.  :(
#160
Hard to say, if well cared for I'd say that the lifespan should be pretty long. I've had quite a few of my HuCards for 20+ years and still work perfectly, and there are still a ton Atari 2600 games that work just fine out there.
#161
Yeah, even with the new receiver it's there.

I took the CD unit apart yesterday and the ground wire is securely soldered to the board and the bottom of the case. I wonder if maybe something inside the dock is causing it. I also noticed a little tab attached to the grounding plate in the base of the CD unit and pryed it up a bit in the thought that whatever it makes contact with would make a better connection when it put it back together. The noise seemed just a bit quieter, but still obviously there.
#162
Yeah, I don't expect it to go away at all, figure I've had the thing nearly 20 years now, and older tech tended to be noisier. I think that what I'm hoping for is just to make it quieter, as now it is REALLY loud when I have the volume turned up, so much so that when I know a cutscene is coming and a load will occur I scramble for the remote to turn it down
#163
Work on my collection when the price is right (bought WAY too much stuff recently, I think the wife's on to me!). I hope to hit some garage sales this year looking for more Turbo stuff, because you never know what you might find, and have day dreams of finding something like Beyond Shadowgate, Might and Magic, or dare I say Magical Chase in the wild.
#164
It's not an issue with sound quality, which some people say the TG16 is a bit scratchy (I like it better than other game consoles all the same  ) but this is more like some sort of mechanical sound being transmitted through the speakers when it shouldn't be.
#165
Yeah we were talking about that today. We were going to swap out each piece of the system one at a time and see which it was. Thanks for the tip, I'll check for any loose ground wires in the unit as well.
#166
So I asked this inside another thread quite a while back, and want to revive the question. My TG-CD makes a "whirring" and "buzzing" noise when loading games that is transferred through the speakers of my sound system. Over the years it's gotten louder, and I've always wondered what caused it, but also thought that maybe it was somewhat normal.

A friend of mine just got a system and TG-CD from Craigslist and he says his doesn't do that, and since mine is the only one he'd ever seen, found it odd that his didn't do the same, and said it sort of felt missing LOL.

I've thought in the past that maybe it's interference from the power supply, or something similar, but I'm not sure. It's not really noticeable (though you can faintly hear the drive "working" through my speakers) unless games are loading, and then it's pretty loud.

Any ideas of what might cause something like that?

Here's a picture of some of my newly labeled cases sitting on my desk at work.

Bump!

Still looking for manuals for Fighting Street, Falcon and now Hit The Ice.
#169
I've noticed mine loading slowly sometimes if I just start it up and start playing.

The first thing that sprang to my mind was a capcitor as well, with the warm up or charging period, though I'm not sure that would be the case with these units.
#170
Got mine on Friday, they look great! Now just need some inserts and I'm good!
#171
I would love to get some tray art and insert action for my 3 copies (gave the other 2 to friends that are starting their collections  =D>  ). The work on the case labels is top notch, would love to have something of similar quality for the inserts!
#172
Yeah, I was thinking similar, the only thing that kind of made that auction interesting was the Aero Blasters, which I could "complete" with a Sparky label, otherwise it seems way too high. I'll probably just buy cheap sports titles and do it that way.
#173
Actually considering this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/12-Hucard-Case-2-Games-Turbo-Grafx-16-Turbo-Duo-/320633879730?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item4aa744bcb2

I have the case labels from Sparky, so could complete Aero Blasters (which I don't currently have) and Vigilante (which a friend will buy for $10). Still seems high to me, but finding a source for HuCard cases is hard.

Also looking at:

Fighting Street / Re: Gamestop = FAIL

Yeah I usually do my business with local shops here, and there is one that is called Reset Games that is actually staffed by nice people that know what they are talking about! It's a nice place to shop and trade in games (trade in value is much better too). Too bad they never have Turbo stuff, but tons of NES, Genesis, etc. as well as all the new stuff.

The final straw for me was when I went to buy a PS3 game once and the guy tried giving me a used copy at new prices, when there was a sealed one right behind the counter. I called him on it and he tried some lame excuse like "It's policy that we have to take the new games out of the cases, this IS a new game". Told him he better give me the sealed one or I'd go somewhere else.... Long story short, I went somewhere else.
#176
So I was organizing my Turbo stuff the other day, and can't seem to find the manual to Falcon (which I KNOW I had  ), and I am missing the manual to Fighting Street.

I'd like to buy replacements for these, and also a few (4 maybe?) sleeves and any random HuCard cases that people have (not Keith Courage, I want the clip). The cases don't need the front plastic, and can really be in just about any condition label wise, as I am going to use my awesome Sparky stickers to make cases for a few things.

I've stopped doing any business with GameStop at all, unless there is some crazy awesome pre-order bonus I can't pass up, but mostly that hasn't been the case in years.

Most of their employees are complete morons, and unless the game is mainstream and super popular, they've never heard of it.
#178
Haha, Sparky's stuff is way better looking than that junk.
#179
Donation sent!

Thanks for such an awesome gift to the community.
#180
Yeah, I have my Sparky labels still sitting on my desk here at work, and the Magical Chase sticker looks WAY better than that guy's.

This is totally awesome Blue!

"Will give your Turbo Grafx CD drive something to do......finally!"

Bite me LOL.

Though nice to see some recognition for Insanity :)
#183
Just got my large set today and it's great! The colors are very close to original, and the right size as well. Highly recommended!
#184
That VGA graded crap just makes me angry LOL. So stupid. I don't care what shape it's in, Bonk's Adventure is NOT worth $150, let alone the Exile 2 I think I saw floating around for about $500 or so...
#185
I think that when I got to the first underworld stage in Keith Courage I think I literally said something along the lines of "Holy fuck, shit just got serious!"

Never liked the overworld sections much, but the rest of the game is pretty cool IMO. First thing that blew me away was the colors compared to other systems available at the time (1989).
#186
I agree, after reading more of the feedback, I'm not sure I want to take a chance. I'm pretty picky about the condition of my games, so should probably avoid any disappointment.
#188
So does this work in such a way that you solder wires to the pins on the Hu slot, then to the chips, and then from the chips to a switch? No reason to desolder the pins on the Hu slot (saw a mod years ago that called for that)?
#189
Have you done the mod and used that converter yet? I'm interested to see how well one of those works, as I have seen them for pretty decent prices.
#190
I was thinking the same thing, nice round hole to make and should be able to easily get DIN 8 to SCART cables from what I can tell. Just need a converter then to get the signal to my TV.

I'm excited to try this mod based on the pictures that people have posted, and I know that things like that always look better in person.
#191
One of my all time favorite games on any system.
#192
No suggestions? Everybody has an opinion, just want to hear what people might think is the best way to go  :P
#193
Man, I'd really have to think about this, and probably play quite a few games again to really nail it down. I really like chiptunes and think that many of the chiptune songs have way more character and are cooler than most of the music in todays games.

Also, just in case nobody has seen this, awesome video:
Around 5:25 I think is especially cool.
#194
I posted this in another thread, but figured I'd give it it's own in case it's getting skimmed by, and in the interest of not toally hijacking a different thread

I really think that I want to RGB mod my TG-CD base.

I haven't cracked the case yet, but it seems like it would be pretty easy to tap the CD base side of the expansion bus, run it to an amp and get RGB out. However, the thing that I'm struggling with a bit, even after reading a ton of RGB posts here and around the net is what to do for a port. I'd like to make the mod look at professional as possible, and was thinking about several options:

1. Component jacks - I think that this would be nice to just be able to plug component cables directly into my CD base, but I'd need a board like the JROK (sp?) inline to convert the RGB signal, correct?

2.DIN8 - I could then use a DIN to SCART and then a SCART to HDMI or Component converter, correct?

3. Other - ???

Also, I'm pretty sure that since the CD base has RCA for sound and composite video already, those would still be useable, so I'd really only need to tap the RGB signal and get it to the connector of my choosing?

Any suggestions on how some of you might tackle this?
#195
Where did you buy the amp? It's a nice looking compact circuit.

Turbo Tap would be nice as well. Not necessary, but if the price for tap and pads is good I'm sure my friend will spring for it  :)

Working though maybe? Doesn't have to be in great shape. I can usually fix most problems with them except when the plug is totally broken. Or if anyone has repair kits or spare cables for a pad, that could work too.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Seeking TurboPad(s)

One of my friends is surprising another of our friends with a TG16 for Christmas (used to have one when we were kids and would be stoked to collect and play again). We can't find any TurboPads locally and wanted to see if anyone here had extras in decent shape they'd be willing to part with before we turn to ebay.

Turbo Stick or Pad works. Thanks!
