Changelog (Taken from Readme.txt)

2017/11/08 2.87

  - At the top of the "Input" menu, the current pad connection status is
displayed on one line, such as "Connect [x-Button Pad]". If you place the
mouse cursor over it, the menu for changing the connection pad appears.

  - "3-Button Pad (I+II)" added to the pad selection of the above menu. If
this is selected, pressing [IIIr] button will result in pressing +[II]
button at the same time. In addition, [IIIs] button becomes [RUN] button.
It can be used for jumping of +[II] in "Double Dragon II", and for
simultaneous bullet shooting of +[II] in "Super Darius" and "Darius
    Plus", and so on.

  - [Alt] key can be assigned to PCE controller setting. Therefore, when you
want to open the menu, please use [Esc] key, the button by "CPU->
Configure Pause Button" menu, or mouse click.
Also, when [Shift] key is pressed five times, the fixed key setting dialog
will not be displayed. As a result, [Shift] key can be assigned to PCE
    controller setting.

  - When setting PCE controller from the [Setting] button (lower left of the
initial green screen), PCE controllers #2-#5 are initialized (keys not
set). If your controller setting is not stable, please set it here.

  - The number of save states can be used to a maximum of 80.
    (increased from 50 to 80)

  - In the visual scene of the end of "Tenshi no Uta II", the problem of
stopping was solved (occurred in recent version. adjustment of CD access
timing). I was able to check the operation without problem until ending
    with this version.

  - When entering the first tower in "Tenshi no Uta II", the problem that
large noise exists on the head of some audio tracks (* this noises exists
with a real PC Engine) was solved. In Ootake, this obvious unnecessary
noise is cut and played cleanly.
    * This problem is probably caused by a CD-ROM production mistake at that
time (the sound of the end of the previous track is mixed at the
      beginning of the track).
In "Tenshi no Uta II", "Rayxanber II", "Eikan ha Kimini" and "Ginga
Fukei Densetsu Sapphire", this problem happens. Ootake solves it. If you
uncheck "Setting-> Improve-> Cut Inaccurate CD-DA Track Head Noise"
menu, this solving will be invalid (noise appear like real PC Engine).

  - When specifying ".cue file" as an argument from the command prompt, the
bug that could not be opened (occurred from v2.81) has been fixed.

  - Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected.

+ Thank you very much for your reporting and encouragement. In this version,
there are few changes and the source change is slight. For a while (at
least for the Japanese autumn horse racing season), I will take a break.
I am pleased if this v2.86 becomes a stable version. But, if urgent
trouble or things worked on the previous version did not work, I will fix
    it soon and update it.

Heads up a new version of the Ootake emulator has been released  :D

http://www.ouma.jp/ootake/

http://www.ouma.jp/ootake/

Ootake v2.78 changeling (from readme)

2016/04/29 2.78 released

  - Image quality setting of "Screen -> Mode" menu has been added(changed)
some quality selection. Along with this, "TV Mode (Ctrl + F11)" menu and
"Setting -> Screen -> Setting Direct3D" menu has been removed.
The following is a picture quality that can be selected.
Special Scanlined   The scanning line is put in the screen on lengthwise
and crosswise. Neither burr (jaggy) nor scumble stands
out when the screen is expanded. It is easy to see the
         string and the character.
TV Scanlined   The horizontal scanning lines are put on the screen.
And a few shadeing off is put. As a result, the
atmosphere of a real machine that outputs the video to
the television is reproduced. - Processing lightens
because   the enlargement processing is done with
hardware. It is likely not to be reproduced well
according to the kind of the video card.
     Horizontal
Scanlined   The horizontal scanning lines are put on the screen.
Horizontal      This is a sharp screen than "Horizontal Scanlined".
     Scanlined 2   Jagged exists.
Horizontal      This is a sharp screen than "Horizontal Scanlined 2".
     Scanlined 3   Jagged exists.
Horizontal      This is the mode for speed priority. It is a sharp
Scanlined F   screen, but the jagged exists. - Processing lightens
because   the enlargement processing is done with
         hardware.
Non-Scanlined   This is a screen display that doesn't put the scanning
         line.
     Non-Scanlined 2   This is a sharp screen than "Non-Scanlined".
Non-Scanlined TV   This is a smooth screen than "Non-Scanlined".
  - Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected.

Heads up a new version of the Ootake emulator has been released  :D

http://www.ouma.jp/ootake/
Ootake v2.77 changeling (from readme)

  2016/03/01 2.77 released

  - The "Option" button on the startup screen has been changed to the
"Setting" button. With "Setting" button, you can do basic(important)
    settings.

In these settings, I think the "Function Button (auto-fire, audio volume
control setting, etc.)" and the "Resume Mode (auto save state and each
    game settings) are very convenient.

  - If the "Function Button" is set to the same place as the PCE button(I,II,
RUN, SELECT), the operation of the PCE button takes precedence.

  - At the time of the state save and load, "elapsed time from the start of
    the game" will be displayed.

  - In "Dead of the Brain 1&2", the problem that the display of the message is
    disturbed, has been corrected.

  - In the curb brawl of "FirePro Jyoshi - Dome ChoujouKessen", the display at
the top of the screen line, has been corrected.

  - With Windows8/10, the Full-screen mode is set to default. Because, there
is a large display delay at the window mode of Windows8/10.

  - At the Full-screen mode, when performing the volume settings and save
state, it is smooth the display of the screen message.

  - At the Full-screen mode, improved "white screen display at the time of
    game start-up".

  - Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected.

'A collection of digitized scans from a large cache of documents related to the game publisher Infocom, Inc. of Cambridge, MA. Assembled by Steven Meretzky of Infocom.

In 2006, documentary filmmaker Jason Scott began production on GET LAMP, a video documentary about the realm of text adventures and interactive fiction. Shooting and research time was roughly 4 years, during which Jason interacted with a large variety of members of the various communities and companies that made up the story of text adventures. Among these was Steve Meretzky, developer at Infocom, Inc, arguably the largest and most influential of the 1980s adventure game companies. '

Hi Folks

I competed Loom on Standard Mode and then noticed in the manual that if you play the game in Expert mode you get a Bonus animated scene near the end of the game.

However I have just completed the game in Expert Mode but did not note any differences in the  scenes at the end of the game compared to standard mode (well what I can remember anyhow)

Does anyone here know what this extra scene is?

Darius Sound Sheet:

After a few years of searching I have been lucky enough to stumble across copies of both the Darius and Genpei Toumaden sound-sheets.  These were given away with PC Engine Fan.

I have pulled together some information on the Darius release along with a link to the audio track. When I get time I will re-rip the audio tracks and pull together a page for Genpei Toumaden.

Hi Folks

Bit of help with YS IV please.

I have reached the point where you end up in the village of Serene speaking to the old woman who will make you explosives so you can clear the rocks in the path, however she needs "Kibie Powder" and the Romuns have it.

So I head back to  the castle north of Arieda and there is a guard that will not let me pass (presuming this is where i need to be?) If I use transform magic the guard just says uggggg a demon.

Hi Folks

I have picked up a copy of Tengai Makyou Fun Kabuki Den (Far East of Eden) that comes in a tin box outer.

The CD in the tin box is the same as the retail copy with ID: HCD3046

The only references that I have managed to track down relating to this release is that it maybe a limited edition, a collector edition or a show giveaway.

Does anyone have details of what this release is?

For those of you who use GameCollector, you would had received and email recently that introduces you to a new and exciting venture called 'Cobalt '.  As I suspected this is a replacement to Game Collector based on a subscription model rather than pay for the application you use (with limited updates included)

I have used this great program for several years and have paid for several updates.  However I hate this new pay per month subscription nonsense. I know it is only US $24.95 per year however it is the fact that there is no alternative, now this is the problem! (Other than not to upgrade!)

And if you don't upgrade you cannot get what I classify as a basic fundamental update to "Support - better handling of non-English characters"

Such a shame, I hope that they change their minds and go back to pay for the product you want to use model.

Hi

I am not sure if this has already been covered in the past?  However I have been going through my PC Engine collection and came across this release schedule for the original PC Engine.

I have not noticed this previously but as you can see there are differences in titles and volume numbers:

/yc2p.jpg

Release Schedule:

01 The Kung-Fu
02 Bikkuriman World
03 Shanghai
04 Victory Run
05 Necromancer (Jaseikin)
06 Youkai Dochuki
07 Kato and Ken Chan
08 ???
09 ???
10 R-Type I

Hudson Volumes as released:

01 The Kung-Fu
02 Bikkuriman World
03 Victory Run
04 Shanghai
05 Necromancer (Jaseikin)
06 Kato and Ken Chan
07 R-Type I
08 Yuu Yuu Jinsei
09 R-Type II
10 Sengoku Mahjong

As I do not read or speak Japanese can someone help identify the following games:

08 ????

The character sprite looks similar that of Makyo Densetsu.  However nothing else matches!

/xdsq.jpg

09 ???

Maybe Pachiokun Juban Shobu?  Although the screen is similar the licensing information is wrong

Just playing around with it at the moment and the following settings seem to give much better results that my old one:

Auto Exposure Type: Document
Image Type: 24Bit Colour
Resolution: 400 dpi

Unsharp Mask: Medium
Descreening: Fine Prints (175 lpi)

Test scan of Hellfire S front cover:

Old scanner (Canon LIDE 100): Test Scan 1.7MB!

New Scanner: Test Scan 2.7MB!

Looking forward to bringing you folks some more cover scans and I have just realised that I have not scanned a PC Engine Fan magazine for you guys in a while.

Hi Folks

I have spent some of my spare time over the past few days compiling a spreadsheet that lists the arcade games that received a PC Engine conversion.

Spreadsheet on GoogleDocs

The spreadsheet contains 2 distinct lists.  One is based on the Japanese releases/game names and the other is based on the World English releases/game names.  Where there was no corresponding localized release I Have included the root title on both lists for example 'Kiki Kaikai'.  Also if there was a localized US version and a Global version I have used the Global Version.

The spreadsheet contains the following columns:

A) PCE Title
B) Format

C) Arcade Title (Mame List 1) JPN
D) MameDir   (This is the game zip name for those of you who run Mame!)

E) Arcade Title (Mame List 2) EN
F) MameDir (This is the game zip name for those of you who run Mame!)

As a bonus for those of you who use Mame I have created a custom list file!  Just pop this into the  'Folders' directory contained in your 'Mame' folder and you will see a new 'PCE_Engine' top level folder containing 2 custom lists.

Note: I have only tested this with 'Mameui64' version 0.149u1

PC_Engine.ini (Right Click and Save as)

No doubt I have missed some titles and have got some wrong! However I would not be surprised as this is my first attempt at this based on the games I own.  So feel free to comment :-)

I was reading up on the Micro Chipper bootleg of Kyuukyoku Tiger over at:

http://www.videogameden.com/pirate.htm?pce04

The article makes the following note relating to the box artwork:

"The cardboard box is also very unusual, with the same colour illustration printed on each side. However, the drawing has nothing to do with the original PC Engine title and is maybe borrowed from the arcade flyer"

Today the mystery has been solved!
