I watched this episode on the Vita. It filled me with rage, as now I want to play TMNT and Shinobi on the thing.

Well I'm glad Joe Redifer represents the Turbografx well... because you hardly see PC Engine in any of those retro channels with big follower numbers. And also because of that "Angry PC Engine nerd" video that makes everyone to think that PC Engine fans are whiny little... uh never mind, keep up the good work Game Sack!

LOL they made a trailer? Interesting how he added a "DJ-like" echo to his voice.

Bernie

Awww man... Dragon Warrior didn't get a spot in Part 1.  :(  Interestingly, I found Phantasy Star III a lot of fun, however I must admit I've never messed with the original on SMS, and I didn't care too much for II.  I do have a Sega Collection on my 360, and it contains all four of them, so I may give em all a shot now.

roflmao

Bernie passed Phantasy Star II and III along to me in a raffle and I've tried a couple of times to get into both and neither one has been able to suck me in.  I keep thinking I'll give them another go one of these days.

The dungeon exploring in PS1 blew me away back in the day.  I picked up a Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA and have tried getting into the first one again, but that one hasn't stuck yet either....

EDIT:  I just wanted to add that I thought it was a great episode and love the atmosphere of the PS games.  Phantasy Star Online is probably singularly responsible for me holding onto my Dreamcast, though Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and Space Channel 5 help!

Mathius

I have tried my damnedest to get into Phantasy Star but, aside from the difficulty, the item naming is way overly complicated! Even the most accessible game in the series, PSIV, drives me nuts with the names of items and spells. It really sucks the enjoyment out for me, but I haven't given up on the series yet.

DragonmasterDan

Great episode.
I've played through every game you covered and mostly agree with your opinions.

Just on a side note Joe, is that a custom plastic case for your Phantasy Star IV?

Yes, it deserved better.

So does my copy of Castlevania: Bloodlines. I would really like to relieve it of its cardboard prison. My copy of PSIV is loose though. I am still looking for a case and manual.

Clamshell Bloodlines seems to go on the 'bay for about double what the cardboard one does, at least in the auctions I was watching. Guessing the cardboard version (which I have) is like the second printing or something? anybody know?

Yeah, the cardboard games came later. I suspect it was printed in 95 or the Majesco era.

Added in edit: It was a Majesco re-release

That is why I haven't dropped the cash on a clamshell case. I saw my copy in a local store for $5 last year and I couldn't pass it up. The cart looked like it had never been played.

Joe Redifer

Castlevania clamshell also comes with an instruction manual that has a color cover. Majesco manual is 100% black and white.

Joe, I haven't mentioned this (I meant to a few weeks ago), but my daughter and I love watcing Game Sack! She loves everything (the commentary, the humor, your personalities, etc.) and watches it for pure entertainment...sure, she gets to see (and learn) about some games that I don't have, but she's watching primarily because she enjoys it (she's not a video game nerd...yet). :pcgs:

Just watched it earlier. Luckily, I don't believe I ever played any of the mentioned games. Too bad Blaster Master 2 is such a piece. Real shame. It's graphics have a "Shadow of the Beast" thing going on.

Joe Redifer

Yeah I really kind of liked the art in Blaster Master 2 and was sooooo let down by the game. The original was a game that made me sad I didn't have an NES.

Quote from: DragonmanserDanThanks for covering Night Creatures, I hate that game too
Oh yeah... I'd still rather play it than Aero the Acro-Bat, though. And Blaster Master 2. I don't know how Sunsoft did it, but they were able to produce games that made me physically ill to play. And guess who had to play them for the episode since he's the only one amongst the Game Sack crew who has a Genesis with S-video? And then spend more time with them in editing? The first "Really Bad Games" episode was kind of fun because the games were so bad you could laugh at them. Not these. They're just bad. They cause pain.

You covered Sword of Sodan in an earlier episode, correct? I'd rather play Sword of Sodan (which is wretched, as you know) than Blaster Master 2.

Oh god I got that game for xmas one year because it looked awesome in the magazines. I was completely and utterly horrified after the first 5 minutes.

The worst part, is that I was at that age where you just suck it up and play it anyway because you're not getting another new game for 6 months, haha.

Ive recently been watching the show. I really like it, and its becoming one of my fav you tube game related shows to watch. I Do disagree with some aspects of the show. Like how every fighting game is hacked up to be a button masher ( probably because i play fighters at a competitive level) but thats just me being nit picky.  Other than that, i really enjoy it
