Check that older Genesis - see if it has n FCC ID of FJ846EUSASEGA which indicates a non-TMSS console (with the better sound chip).

Quote from: Mathius on 10/08/2013, 09:03 PMAre the Wind Waker HD LEs still available, or were they very limited?
I'm pretty sure they are sold out at this point.  There was a limited restock on Gamestop.com a couple weeks before release, but they sold out too.  I tried to PM a couple members who had sounded like they were interested, but this was the same time PCEFX went down so I had to try other channels somewhat unsuccessfully.

I have been waiting VERY patiently for a good condition copy of MM for genny.
How is the book in there?  That's the problem, every one I find is either missing the book or its horribly tattered.
It's actually in pretty nice shape.  Not mint, and you can tell it was used, but the binding is still holding everything together fine.  I got lucky grabbing this from Beemer, I had wanted a copy with the manual for awhile as well too, especially since it's so thick.  And there are color illustrations in it too!

Quote from: JapanTokei on 10/09/2013, 01:20 PMthat is one nice find for the ram cart, boxed and complete like that!  I have a loose one myself and even those are hard to come by.  they're a must for games like Shining Force 2 (my fav).  anyway congrats on the awesome nab.... how much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?

Then something I got on ebay:
IMG
2013-10-07 Pickups - Sega CD Backup Ram Cart by xcrement5x, on Flickr
A fully boxed Sega CD Backup RAM Cart in the nicest condition I have ever seen.  Also comes with the original Funcoland receipt from 1995.  This is pretty much one of the last Sega CD related items I've been missing, and I waited a long time before finally picking this one up since I've been a stickler about condition.  I've had a loose cart since the late 90s though that I bought at Media Play.
Ehehe, I'd been holding out for quite awhile for one in nice shape so it cost me.  Loose ram carts seem to go around $35, and I paid $60 shipped for that minty one I found.  Quite a lot for me to drop on an older game item, but they're really pretty uncommon compared to most stuff, and I'd been watching ebay for maybe 6 months looking for one in that condition.  I'm a big Sega/Mega CD fan so this was one of those items I'd put off that I wanted for my collection.  Interestingly, the box for the ram cart seems to be taller than even the plastic longboxes, so I need to modify my shelves for it!

I don't get why the FCC ID is a big deal, an even easier way to tell non-TMSS consoles apart from ones that have it is to look for the patent numbers, which are on a silver or white strip on that sticker. From my experience every single Genesis that didn't have the patent numbers did not have TMSS.

I'm currently in the market for a Genesis Model 1 if you want to work something out.
Yeah no problem, I have 4 model 1's right now so hit me up with a pm and I'll put together a package for you.  I have many doubles in games as well if your looking for commons.

When I get home today I'll check to see if my new model 1 is non tmss

Well most characters like Ryo and Robert, just triangle jump kick and hard kick sweep. You can't straight up fight the computer, you have to use the cheapness patterns (even on 1 out of 8 challenge, lol). Kinda fucking ruins any casual enjoying of the game 1 player-wise, which is a damn shame.

This is why I just use the Unibios cheats to get an upper hand. Like infinite spirit meter for moves. This is one of the few games I make the exception of using cheats.

I get you on being cheap.  Uri I can't beat unless I crouch at a certain position and she always jumps into me which I counter with an upper cut, that is the only way I can beat her.  I am beyond cheap playing this game.

I see someone was shopping at Target!  They're the only ones who got the old school boxes, I've got the "updated" versions when I bought them at King Soopers (Kroger) near me.  The flavors are new too! Personally I like the new Yummy Mummy (Orange Creme) over Frute Brute (Cherry), but it's definitely no Fruity Pebbles, my personal weakness.

It seems like Target is the only store that sells the Monster Cereals every year around Halloween in my area. I just tried Yummy Mummy this morning for the first time and it is good. I'm looking forward to trying Frute Brute as well. Fruity Pebbles has always been my favorite. I got a limited edition box of Fruity Pebbles with marshmallows a few years back and always wondered why they didn't sell them on a regular basis. I suppose I could always just remove the marshmallows from Lucky Charms and add them to my Fruity Pebbles (which would essentially leave me with Alpha Bits cereal).

Awesome! The music in Soul Reaver was done by the lead singer of Information Society. Some of it can be found on their (his) album "Don't. Be Afraid".  Good stuff.

And Streets of Rage is probably my favorite console beat 'em up of all time.  My 5yr old son and I just beat it together (on easy) a few weeks ago. :)

EDIT: Gah! Sorry for the mis-quote. Friggin cell phone...

Mathius

Yuzo's music in the first two Streets of Rage games hits me hard. It drills into the pit of my stomach and remains there long after I finish playing. I have been playing SoR3 for the first time ever today. I have to say I do not like the music. At all. Maybe I'll warm up to it after repeated plays.

Yeah, I was reading through SoR reviews & saw the third being panned.  Originally I had no interest in the first two either, as beat-em-ups aren't really my thing...but the music is ultimately what swayed me.  They're definitely growing on me now. :D
