So all I've gathered from this is that Joe is a blubbering vagina and is so out of touch with this forum that he gets butt hurt at the normal pcefx banter and as a result, can't properly mesh with us.

and then goes OH HUUUHUUU NO WONDER I DONT VISIT MORE OFTEN.

If you visited more and maybe were less oblivious, you'd have less butt hurt right now.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Joe Redifer

Should I feel bad about not being able to mesh with some of you guys? Nobody gets along with everyone. There's a few people here whom I consider good friends and I seem to mesh well with them and that's what's important to me. Sorry if I don't tickle your clit, but meshing with you isn't something I'm particularly concerned about. I just find it odd that the person telling me that I should hang around here more is also giving me the most flak. Now I'm off to play some PC-8801. Or maybe some Game Gear. Because the Game Gear is phuggin' awesome.

lol.   I give everyone flak, numbnuts.   You're just too oblivious to realize it and get all butthurt/defensive/dismissive.

It'd be cool if you'd tickle my clit though.  I'm into scissoring.

Is there something wrong with asking the community's opinion, as part of research on an upcoming episode?  I mean, we see how people react when someone on YT gets something wrong.  I am going to do a Turbografx "launch" episode sometime in the near future, and was planning on running the list of games by the community to see if they think they are acceptable as "launch window" games, but not if I'm going to catch hell for not mentioning the forums in the episode.

Well, everyone loves to criticize everything, but for something like the launch titles, you may remember we recently revisited the topic. I still don't know what games to include.

TG-16's first ~three months of releases seems like the best I can do (from personal memory), since I purchased TG-16 on XMAS...but, damn, I can't remember what was available in September or October of 1989. I have a handful of definites...but a lot of maybes....

All I can say is I'm not inclined to help someone else's monetized youtube channel by contributing information and research.

Regarding the turbo launch games, if you use this forum as a source from which you either produced your list or confirm your own list on the basis of its credibility and 'authority,' then rules of scholarly work require a citation, so your viewers can examine your source and judge its veracity, and as courtesy to acknowledge the work of others. Otherwise it is plagiarism.

Regarding point #1, that is of course your prerogative.  But understand that it is the YouTube content creator's prerogative as to whether or not they want to give a "shout out" to people who helped them.  Personally, if Joe or anyone else started a thread asking for information (just as Joe did), I would have no problem contributing to that thread if I had helpful information.  For me, that's just being part of the community.  Joe puts a shitload of work into those Game Sack videos (exponentially more work than is required by one of us to answer a question that he posts here) and he absolutely deserves whatever money he makes from those videos.

Regarding point #2, it is absolutely not plagiarism to not site a source of information.  If I *QUOTE* a source and pass that quote off as my own, then that is plagiarism.  Beyond that, I find your stance on the issue to be misguided, to put it gently.  YouTube videos of this nature are not scholarly works.  I can only speak for myself, but the information that I present in my videos comes from a variety of sources of various levels of reliability.  Wikipedia and GameFaqs being on the low end of that spectrum, issues of Retro Gamer being somewhere in the middle, and published books written by self-described gaming "scholars" like Bill Loguidice on the high-end.

Este: I agree.  I think that for that episode, I am just going to have to go with "launch window" games, because there is seemingly no way that we are ever going to nail down exactly what was available right at the start of the test launch, or the national roll-out.

I like to keep episodes under wraps, usually. Yeah I'll ask an occasional question to get some opinions but then I will vet them myself. For example if someone says "Such and such a game has a great voice", I will check for myself to see if I personally think it's good for the system. There are always some people like Gentle Gamer who don't like the fact that we make money on the videos and stuff like that and are often sour to me on multiple forums. (I will keep in mind your comment about Arkhan, though. We give 8-bit Eric so much shit even though we like him and I never realized that Arkhan just does the same thing to everyone). Anyway I wouldn't call posting your opinion about what games have good voices as "research". It's not like you are going to sit down and go through every HuCard game and listen (and neither am I). So asking what stands out in any given forum member's memory is a great place to start. Also it makes for a great topic which is why I don't brand the thread as "Game Sack neeeeds to know about teh voices!!!" The thread can continue without it being directly related to us. All of the games I ended up choosing I had played before. But I always credit people when they give/lend games or systems. Some people don't even want to be credited (like BlueBMW) but I started giving him credit anyway after the comments on this forum didn't like that.

Anyway, where am I going with this? I dunno.

Gentlegamer

It's more a matter of disclosure.

Starting a thread: hey I'm working on an episode of [monetized game channel] and I'm thinking of doing subject x, anyone have info on it? let's the community know what your motive is, and each can decide his response, whether he wants to help.

Starting a thread: hey classic gaming community bros, it's me, your classic gaming bro! I was just randomly wondering what you think about subject x (or, I'm a big fan of thing in games, do you know more examples of thing in games?) gives a completely different motive and is misleading, in my opinion.

If you haven't already, you should do an episode on Genesis games in true stereo that requires headphones, make use of that list you made twenty years ago and all the bad games you had to wade through.

It's not that I don't understand where you're coming from, it's just that I don't see what the big deal is.  If it were just some nobody from the outside stopping by to pump us for information without telling us why, then yeah OK that's not cool.  Just like people flying by to dump off their Turbobs at eBay prices.  But Joe was a member of this community long before he had a YouTube channel, so some of us (myself included) think that it's pretty neat to see someone who is "one of us" start a show and make such a success out of it.

I've always thought that you were a cool guy, and I am certainly not saying that I have a problem with you now, but this sudden hard-on that you have for Joe is really just sounding like jealousy or bitterness.  You might want to take a step back and think about how you're acting (and why) before continuing with this.

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing another guilty pleasures episode. I found today's episode very entertaining. I didn't know GT4 supported 1080i on PS2, what a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the episode, but is voice quality really a good measure of developer skill or hardware stretching? Of course, it's nice to know what the highest possible quality playback is like for each system, and how the systems compare. Yet it seems like higher-than-usual quality would only be the result of allocating more space in the ROM for higher sample rates. It's like how the "SEGA" voice in Sonic 1 apparently took up 1/8 of the ROM space.

If some clips required coding up some special program to convert the original audio in a very specialized way, or if the hardware is streaming/processing the audio in some atypical fashion, then that's cool. But otherwise, voice quality doesn't seem very remarkable to me. There's virtually no design sense involved.

ClodBusted

For the N64, Factor 5 (Rogue Squadron) wrote some special sound engine that made the use of lengthy compressed voice clips possible while
 1. Let the N64 decompress them on-the-fly
2. Still saving enough storage space on the cartridge for game data.

I wouldn't be surprised if Factor 5 licensed their engine to other developers after the release of RS.

By the way, I was surprised when I found FIFA 98 Road to World Cup had both English and German commentary selectable on the German version of the game. Even having one single commentator was an achievement on that console due to space constraints on the N64 cartridge.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that it was available.

The N64's processor was nice and fast. People (and not just Factor 5) were using the GSM  06.10 (the European cell-phone compression standard) http://www.quut.com/gsm/ for speech on the N64 ... for 9:1 compression.

That kind of processing power wasn't as available on the Genesis (or at all on the SNES or PCE).

Yep. You don't often hear quality voices in cartridge games and I like to point out games that pushed them to sound better than 99% of other games on the system.

Dicer

Next one of these please mention Star Parodier

Level 7 pushes more crap on screen than the system has any right to be pushing...aside from that giant sprites and scrolling galore, minimal if any slowdown or flicker (a lil bit in the mentioned level 7)

Yay, NGPC!  I picked up one at a Best Buy with Sonic and a few other games somewhere around 2,000 then bought a second one packed with 6 games for like $49 some years later.  I'm not entirely sure which games it came with, but Faselei and Fatal Fury were in there iirc.  I always assumed there was a ton of left over old stock that somebody decided to try to make some money off of.  The second set didn't come with any manuals or boxes/cases, just the games.

My one complaint about the NGPC was the sprites on the system having only 4 colors (one of which being clear) was always something of a buzz kill; this was particularly true in the many fighting games on the platform.  Games that got away with not using sprites, like SvC Card Fighters and Ogre Battle, looked waaaay better.  The port of Ogre Battle compares alright even to the one on the Super Nintendo which was a pleasant surprise.  I always wondered if there were any games that would do things like layer two sprites on top of each other to get around the color limitations but I never owned any that did so.  Seeing Dark Arms in actions shows that it could have been done, I just wish more games had done so.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

I love the NGPC so much. Got into sometime last year  and it was mainly to grab the two Metal Slug games on it. Probably two of the most affordable Metal Slug games out there. I have this fantasy of collecting everything Metal Slug but I'm not sure it will happen
Maximum Output. Activate the pit.

VenomMacbeth

I've been on the fence about this one for quite some time...I could probably count all the games I want for the system on one hand, and this video didn't do toooo much to remedy that.  However, that Beast Buster game looks a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be when I've read about it.  The Metal Slug games look good, too.

I just wish the fighting games didn't have chibi characters.  That's a big turn-off for me for some reason.

And that Rockman game looks twice as crappy as I thought it'd be.  I can't believe the price it goes for on eBay.
