2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

E3 2016, what are you hoping to see announced? What are your predictions?

Personally I don't have much interest in playing modern consoles like the PS4 or XBone (or even PS3 or Xbox 360) but for some reason each year I always enjoy and get caught up in all the hype and excitement of E3.

http://uk.ign.com/wikis/e3/E3_2016

I have two daughters who are 5 and 9 and they are Nintendo crazy. They have the New 3DS, 3DS, DS, Wii U and Wii consoles with tons of games, so through playing games with them I guess I'm kind of up to date with what's been going on with Nintendo. If I didn't have young kids I doubt I would of played these consoles/games. Other than Nintendo on the rare ocassion I play modern games it's on PC and iPad mostly.

EDIT:

Agreed.

As far as I'm aware for the past 5 years it's been bigger than it's ever been?? Most console gaming companies wait till E3 to unveil their latest game or next console and spend big bucks on lavish presentations.

Last years biggest announcements were Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy VII remake and The Last Guardian.

I'm excited about the XSEED announcement to bring out the new Shantae game in a physical bundle for PS4, Vita, and WiiU.  Will be fun to play.

Ps4/xbone do nothing for me, and VR is a sham...

Hopefully NX is something refreshing, but that's a ways off it seems.

I used to feel the same. Don't get me wrong I'm firmly in the wii u camp for outright game fun. But I'd been holding off on entering either Xbone or ps4 territory for various reasons. I plumped for PS4 as I got a deal couple weeks ago for 3 almost free games and I'm not disappointed. Uncharted 4 is magnificent. Enthralling and a joy to the eyes. First "mainstream " game I've enjoyed for quite some time. Nothing on xbone excites me atm though.

NX is being released in March 2017 apparently. I heard that Nintendo are claiming it's not a replacement for the Wii U but a completely different way of playing, whatever that means.

Oh I know the date, but them not showing it at E3 is just strange, but Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

Maybe Tom Kalinske will get up on stage and announce that a new Sega console is now on sale in stores everywhere. Well except Kay Bee. Because they suck.

Much like how Nintendo claimed "The DS is not a GBA replacement, it's one of the 3 pillars of Nintendo gaming" and then canned the GBA like a year later, the NX is absolutely the replacement for the Wii U.

Not really excited for E3 at all this year. Looking forward to KOF 14 stuff, although i played it last weekend. Curious about Star Ocean, but i know it wont be like Star Ocean 2, so not sure why i care.

Looking forward to seeing friends and getting drunk, and hearing marketing/executives/retailers praise how great titles are based on the trailers playing on the show floor.

I'll never forget standing next to a group of suits looking up at the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG's trailer - obviously looks nothing like the game, and shows no gameplay - and them saying "Wow, that looks like a great title! Put that on the list [insert assistant's name here]"

E3 = best on the internet, going to it is depressing hahah

Hoping to see more of zelda wii-u even though it's been pushed back until 2017 ](*,) Other then waiting to see what sony is up to at E3.Still E3 itself is rotting away since more and more developers, having there own press conferences instead of showing at E3.

I think VR is way over-hyped at this point already. How many of you have large rooms to run around in with really high ceilings so you don't smash your bulbs out by accident?

I mean, I never used VR yet so I don't really know... But from watching streamers on twitch and various video's of people using VR it seems you need a rather large empty room with high ceilings to get the best out of this type of technology. Once everyone has their "VR rooms" sure, I can see it being something to check out.

We've used it in offices within cubicals for years, so I am not sure space is nearly an issue as kinect was. If you living space is smaller than a cubical I doubt that VR is a affordable option. The PC required to run the software, and the VR equipment itself, are too expensive for me to get for the home even if there were a killer app that made me want to use it outside of testing and experimentation.

I was actually all ready to buy a PS4 this weekend. However, with he Neo coming out I will wait a few more months before buying one. Might as well get the fanciest one out there. (So far)

wiseau

I can't even bring myself to care at this point, any game that looks like it's worth a damn is either delayed to hell and back or never is as good as they promise.

780racer

Well I will throw my 2 cents in.

I am excited for Quake, super glad to see that game is coming out. The teaser is very "We made something in a weekend" but DOOM was the same way, it the single player is epic.

Also excited for skyrim.

regarding Nintendo. I will be purchasing WiiU, and hope zelda isn't shit. But at this point, after finally finding out what Star Fox Zero was. I have no fucking hope for Nintendo. They are just the same fucking games from 5+ years ago.

Few others could surprise as well. But that is all I have to say ATM.

To be fair star fox zero was done by platinum games and hadn't been a finite do produced game since the N64 I belive. And platinum games has been very hit or miss. I fee they are trying to pump out to many games at one time and do not have the ability to split their man power. That and the whole utilization of the Wii U's game pad felt like it was being forced on platinum to use from Nintendo. If they ha D just made it optional then the game would have been another classic star fox game instead of a compromise of fun over frustrating.

I am looking forward to the immense popularity and massive library of quality games that will support PlayStation Move VR and Xbox Kinect VR.

The Future* looks fantastic, especially with my HD 3D glasses.

The Future* is now, frankly.

I love the convenience of strapping on gear, literally leashing me to my computer, only to have the doorbell ring (pizza time!)

Or for my bladder to ring (potty time!)

Of course, one could argue that many folks have been leashed to their computers for decades...so the addition of VR Paraphernalia is not going to change behavior. These are the same people who excelled at World of Warcraft (feeding pets and children was optional, apparently).

Does Stridex still sell Acne Abatement (AA) creams and cleansers for folks with sensitive skin?

That said, I think VR will be a neat attraction ("experience") arriving at a Dave & Busters location near you soon! After your meal, you will receive a moist towelettes to wipe pizza grease from your fingers, and a moist Stridex Pad to wipe the forehead/nose grease off the VR headset.

I germaphobe and will only be letting my gf use my PS VR, since we already share all sorts of things anyway.

When I went to Galloping Ghost I realized how weak I have become in my old age, as I never used to feel gross touching joysticks in an arcade.

SoulflySolid

I must be getting old as e3 just isn't that exciting for me anymore. What used to be a fun sneak peek at upcoming games has become a massive marketing event. I guess it always was, but the older I get the more I notice it. Most everything is hyped so early in development so you can rush to preorder, then forget about it when it releases in a year.

Sorry for the rant, it just feels like a different thing now

wildfruit

Microsoft conference is pretty weak so far. Computer people should be banned from public speaking. It's awful, so stilted and forced.

wiseau

So i can't be arsed to watch this, how many games did they promise, but more than likely won't deliver this time?

wildfruit

Every other game seems to be zombies. I guess zombies are de rigueur.

esadajr

Not looking forward to it for like the fifth year in a row.

More shoot shoot shoot kill kill kill, remakes, VR shenanigans, the next Fifa/NBA/Madden roster updates.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Now if you excuse me, I'll get back to work and listen to Lords of Thunder Feka CD soundtrack.

I have been waiting for a new Zelda since I saw the "screenshots" 2 years ago. It looked so amazing: vast and detailed. I found a good deal on a Wii U about a year ago and scooped it up. Now it has already been sold because there is still no word on that fucking Zelda game. Instead, they remade yet another one that I already played through when I had a Wii.

The Wii U is an awesome system. But, the sales figures are rough, and Nintendo isn't giving it the love it deserves. I'm not sure which is the cause and which is the effect. Anyway, the price on the system as well as its games will tank once the NX comes out, and I'll buy another one, I guess.

I'd like to see a new 3-D Mario game like Mario 64, Galaxy, etc. I don't like the "New Super Mario Bros" games. I would also be satisfied with a real 2-D Mario game like SMB 1-3 and SMW.

The effect is sales figures, nintendo cared more about the 3DS than they do the wii u.

I went to Sony's live showing event at a theater here locally. It was just a bunch of VR crap, more zombie games and FPS garbage. They also talked about rebooting the Crash series, like anyone gives a crap. The only thing that excited me even slightly was that they showed the new KOF in the previews. other than that, I didn't care for most of it.

I'm very underwhelmed by the new Zelda, I had really, really high hopes. Everyone else seems completely blown away by it. Like Happy Console Gamer's reaction
Edit: On Nintendo Treehouse: Live they just said something really interesting and a key point I think they should stress more, which is that the Zelda game they're playing at E3 is an edited version to the game that will be released. They removed NPCs and towns so as not to give away any of the story. I was thinking it would get kind of boring just running around grassy plains.

The majority of builds shown on tradeshow floors are not "final gold builds" and are manicured to be presented to the public while hiding a lot of elements, so yeah I was not expecting it to represent the final game in its entirety (it still has over 6 months of development scheduled, not mentioning if they push it again)

The things that excited me were

1) Lack of gimmicks - the last console zelda looked great and had cool ideas in terms of level design and systems, but the gimick of controlling with a wii mote literally ruined the game for me and I never finished it.

2) Expedited menu system - the last few zeldas were stuck in the same old rut in terms of UI, and I appreciate that it's quicker to change items/equipment, and that you are not constantly bombarded with popup alerts with link gawking at the item he just looted (thought it does still have some popups and hand holding via this system, it's not 100% fixed)

3) Climbing, jumping, and other traversal systems. I hate in zelda how long they relied on the "context sensitive" jumping, but somehow implemented jumping puzzles and activities - fuck that. In Skyward swoard you could sprint, and there was a stamina meter, but I never understood why they hand't implemented some sort of system for climbing a la Uncharted - seems like an awesome avenue for level design and providing the player with more tools for exploration.

The only Zelda's I didn't enjoy the art style of were the DS, CDI (dur), and Twilight Princess. I think this current iteration's art style is one of my favorite - very similar to Skyward Sword but in a much cleaner resolution.

There's not a lot jumping out at me to be concerned about for this game, which is exciting in itself. I look forward to playing it, I enjoy these kinds of games a lot.
