Thanks for your purchase!

Since I am flying to the show this year, I don't think I am going to be bringing much if any MVS.  If I do it will be 2-3 carts.  I'll try to bring crossed swords for your consideration.

Keranu

Haha, thanks so much man, I really appreciate that! Looks like I'll be buying it then 8) .

In case you forgot, Keranu was the weirdo who flipped a god damned mint to decide what MVS game to get: Crossed Swords or Mutation Nation.

Yeah, he has some issues.

Anyways, I'm not going to be able to make it this year.  I know, you are crushed.

Keranu

Haha, I forgot about the coin toss! It's always best to make judgements with a coin toss.

Any chance some good steals for NEO GEO AES??

JoshTurboTrollX

A little news about me-  I will be a vendor this year!  I plan on selling dozens of Consoles and hundreds of games.  I can also lend a hand with Turbo Fest if I'm needed.

Also on Sunday(3/30) I got the ok to do a WORLD PREMIERE of Turbo Grafx Villains II movie on the BIG SCREEN!!!  I'm not sure what time it will be at- but I will hand out flyers on Saturday to remind everyone from my gamEscape booth.

I hope any of you guys going from these forums will take 5 minutes and kick back to watch this little TG project I worked on the last few weeks.  This will also be the first time this will be viewed by more than just myself!  I will upload it to gamevideos.com and youtube.com the following week-

MGC/TurboFest is just too far for it to be worthwhile for me, unfortunately, it's just too cost-prohibitive. I'd spend $400 on roundtrip air alone not to mention hotel, food, and spending money.

CrackTiger

Since I just happened to have a few days off from work I took a look at exactly where the "Midwest" gaming classic is located... and it's in the mid to far east of the continent.

Why isn't it called the Mideast Gaming Classic?

How is Wisconsin far east?  The east is the east coast, Ohio to Iowa is midwest, and west of Iowa/Minnesota/Missouri is the west.

SignOfZeta

Yeah, if anything Wisconsin is far too west to be midwest. Its pretty much on the fringe of being central.

It would be cool if they could move it around every year, maybe to the more populous areas of the midwest like someplace in northern Ohio or maybe Chicago. If I'm going to go that far for something I'd rather do MagFest.

I actually have a friend there this year but that's only because his wife's family lives in the area making this a combined trip.

Hobo Xiphas

Hi.

Ohio is not the Midwest, we don't want them.  Especially the southern part, the Great Lakes area is okay though.

Iowa, Minnesota, and Northern Missouri can play with the cool kids.  I'd even include the east river part of the Dakotas.  A good guideline is that if it is between the Wabash, Ohio, and Missouri Rivers is it pretty rad.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 03/29/2008, 12:11 AMYeah, if anything Wisconsin is far too west to be midwest. Its pretty much on the fringe of being central. Hahahaha.  Oconomowoc is almost straight north of Chicago.

I don't think they are ever going to move it from Wisconsin since a lot of the people who organize it are from Wisconsin.

Also, flying in from places far away to go to MGC is pretty silly.  You might as well go to CGE if you are going to do that, it is a lot bigger.

JoshTurboTrollX

Wisconsin is for fags.

Except for the packers.

Yeah, two hours straight north by car...which puts it pretty far away from Chicago. "Midwest" isn't about longitude. Obviously you understand this since you are excluding Ohio, for some reason, but not the Great Lakes region even though Ohio is bordered by Lake Erie.

Southern Ohio is pretty terrible, I have to admit (Cincinnati aside)

3 from the south side\suburbs, but yeah.  Aside from the tollways, the drive isn't bad so moving it Chicago would be silly (and more expensive!).  Maybe living in South Dakota has screwed up my perception of drive times or something.

Don't even get me started about that damned Gurnsey County.  I hate that place.  There has never been a time I have driven through there on I-70 without the goddamned place flooding like it was biblical times all over again.  Seriously, screw that place (and Cincinnati too, half demolished Riverfront was a million times better than Great American.)

Aw man, I was really tempted to get the Fantasy Zone maze game based on the box alone... But I passed on it because I didn't want a completely blind buy.  Now I kinda regret it.

Got to meet- Nectarsis and Mobius.  Got to hang out a bit with Keranu and torgo.  Sold tons of gaming goodness next to a former writer from VG&CE from 1989-1997!  THAT WAS AWESOME!!  Heard some awesome stories!  Also it was good to chat for a bit with TJ and Die Hard Gamer!

Thanks for the memories!!  Will definately have a booth again NEXT YEAR!!!

Had a fun time this year and got to meet Nectarsis and Mobius, both great people, as well as the MGC usuals. Turbo Fest II pretty much went the same as last year and we got a lot of new comers coming and stopping by the booth to play some games, including the specially made Turbo Pong, thanks to Bonknuts!  I'll try to have a full write up with pictures on my site soon, as usual.

Stuff I bought:

game.com system complete in box and instructions, including Lights Out, HENRY (!), and Indy 500. - $25
Fighters Megamix (game.com) - $4
A ballsy SNES replica controller that sold with the original box design and even has the fricken Nintendo logo on it - $5
Hana Taka Daka (PC Engine) - $30 (thanks goes to Mad Gear for this one!)
Panic Bomber (PC Engine Super CD-ROM2) - $10/20? (thanks goes to JoshTurboTrollX-16!)
Air Zonk (Turbo Grafx 16) - $20 (thanks goes to JoshTurboTrollX-16!)
Final Soldier (PC Engine) - $10 (brand new)
Ka Ge Ki (Genesis) $5/10? (thanks goes to JoshTurboTrollX-16!)
The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey Mouse (Genesis) - $5/10? (thanks goes to JoshTurboTrollX-16!)
Dungeon Explorer (Sega CD) - $10 (thanks goes to JoshTurboTrollX-16!)

Oh and I also got a signed King of Kong flier by Walter Day! Walter is a really, really nice guy.

Here's what I got...

Atari 2600: Dark Chambers, M.A.D., Buck Rogers Planet of Zoom, Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes (all loose)
Milton-Bradley Microvision: Bowling (CIB)
Famicom: Macross, Dracula-kun (both loose)
NES: Earthbound homebrew cart
PCE: Burning Angel (w/case + manual)
N64: Sin & Punishment (CIB)
Four back issues of Game Room magazine
Arcade Ambience 1981 + 1983 CD's

Nice to run into Turbostar again :)

I was gonna buy a Twin Galaxies book from Walter Day and have him sign it but I kinda just didn't get around to it. And for the third year in a row, I considered buying the wireless SNES controllers from Messiah but decided not to. Maybe next year :P Also, I was disappointed that AtariAge was not at the show this year -- I wanted to pick up some more Atari homebrews. All in all though, it was another good show and I look forward to next year. I just hope they move it back to June again, I much prefer traveling when it's nice out!

Ceti Alpha

QuoteI just hope they move it back to June again, I much prefer traveling when it's nice out!
Yeah, I'm torn on that. If it's in March next year it will coincide perfectly with the end of my work contract, but if it's in June, as much as travelling in the nice weather would be a treat, it's probably unlikely I'd be able to get the time off of work if I have just started a new job. We'll see what happens. I just want to be able to go.  [-o<

Hehe. What were some of the topics of the presentations?
They were actually really cool, just too hard to hear.  There was one on how to buy pinball machines (I only saw this one in passing), Marty Goldberg talked about something or other (apparently he's reviving the Microprose name to sell accessories for modern PCs and consoles?  I don't really know, I showed up late and left early), Walter Day talked about classic gaming in general, The King of Kong, and Twin Galaxies, Ben Heckendorn talked about his mod projects, and Trickman Terry and Sushi-X talked about working for EGM.  It was a pretty impressive lineup.

The presentations by Walter Day and Trickman/Sushi-X were my favorites.  Walter Day is nuts.

Keranu

Walter Day is just plain awesome. And of course Marty Goldberg is my favorite speaker 8) . Yeah the hallway being used for the speaker room was lame, even more than last year's non-walled area.
