Yeah, there ain't much of an inspection in Alberta either unless I'm mistaken... (But I don't know the details -- I had been driving on a Cali plate for the 1 1/2 years I've been up here 8-[, but my wife didn't seem to need much to re-register her vehicle -- No emissions, no safety, nada!)  AFAIK, the only time it needs inspections are when you're trying to register vehicles that was registered out of province, or trying to re-register vehicles that were damaged & tagged with a salvage title.

Japan on the other hand... Holy fuck man, those bi-annual inspections cost around ~$1500 after everything (no joke).  It used to be even worse for cars 10+ years, as they had to go through the inspections every year, but they did away with that recently.  It's not uncommon for older car's values be strictly based on the time remaining until the next inspection.

It's nice in a way because not many cars are lemons out there because of the stringent testing, but it certainly hurts the pocketbook when the time comes.

Quote from: ceti alpha on 05/20/2008, 06:38 PMYup. All provinces in Canada require a yearly inspection.
Ceti me friend the only inspection here in Ontario is the the 2 year emission testing and thats it... seriously... Never had a yearly inspection on the car  (mind you i do keep up with my repairs with all the driving i do) does this inspection work like the emissions testing, where you get a notice in the mail and have to have it done when you renew you plate sticker? Watch me get a notice now since i mentioned it. :P!!!

EDIT: Love the little stang turboken :D
Really? Shit. lol. That's crazy. I thought it was just the crazy Quebecois who were not into inspections here in Canada. Maybe it's just the crazy Scotians that are into inspections here. lol Actually, in Quebec, it might only be once every two years where your car gets inspected.

Rust is a big problem here though, with the salt air and all the salt on the roads in the winter. Cars wear down much quicker here if you don't rust check and keep on top of things.

But that's interesting that Ontario doesn't have yearly inspections. Here in Scotia we don't have emission testing for cars. Though smog is not a problem at all here.

I Drive a 98 Escort ZX2 (Coupe) 5 speed.  I bought it for $1,800 last year and haven't touched it since (repairs)

/mn12bird/My%20Cars/IMG_7254800share.jpg

The car is kinda small and uncomfortable for me as I'm like 6'2" and 260 pounds!  I needed a car and it was cheap so I bought it.

Otherwise I like Thunderbirds and I have owned 4 of them.  Thats where my username comes from.  The first car I ever bought and the first forum I ever joined was a T-Bird one and I've been using this name ever since!  They are really comfortable for me. MN12 is the chassis code for the 1989-1997 IRS Thunderbird/Cougar and also the basis for the 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII.

BTW in the province of Ontario, Canada where I live you have to have the car "E-Tested" for emissions every 2 years and you have to have the car safety inspected every time you change ownership.  I still can't believe some States don't require the safety (checks over suspension, breaks, e-brake, horn, lights and the general shape of the body ie no holes in the floor) when you go over to Michigan or something you really do see death traps on the road as someone called them.

It's an 06' GSXR 1000.  I prefer a 600 for the track, it makes rear tire traction less of an issue on corner exits.  But the local road track has a long straight, so the 1k cc is good because it get me up to about 170mph-ish, were a 600cc would still be below 145-ish.

Thanks.  My friend in the dirt is a licenced CMRA racer, I just go to race practices and join in.  Licencing costs too much and takes up too much time.  The bike is great on gas BTW, over 40mpg if riden gently

termis

Nice! CMRA, huh?  I guess you're in/around Texas or so?

I used to race little 50s, then moved upto 125s, and it was a helluva a lotta fun, but even that's a money pit.  Move upto the middleweight/superbike 4-stroke bikes and you're talking a LOT of money.

For 600s & 1000s, I also just do trackdays/canyon carving and that's it.  No pressures of racing, just having good fun.

COUNT SMRIFNACK

Near College Station.

Trackdays are the best.  I ride in the licenced group with racers and it's a blast, but very humbling at times.  We have no canyons but some pretty nice backroads.  Nice enough that I used to ride on DOT race slicks we went out weekend riding on them, to cut down on the amount of spinning up on exits. We slowed it down a bit this year though, more cops patroling the roads we ride now

IIRC think the Pontiac/Suzuki badges for the are Canadian market only.  They all have a slightly different looking front end design.

I like the front-design of the original (Kalos) the best, but it's a basic a-to-b car, it's not a big difference either way...  :?

I drive a 2001 Silver Toyota Celica GT, stick.  It has no options whatsoever, since I figured at the time... what do I need a spoiler or a moon-roof for?  In retrospect, I would've kinda liked to have had a rear-window wiper.

Well, it ended up dying 6 months later, and at 16, I didn't have any money for fixing the thing.  I promptly junked it and got back about ~$150 or so for it.

Mmmm..... like the wheels.  BBS of sorts?  And +1 for Azenis tires... when the junky kumhos wear out on my car, that's whats going on next.  Its a hard choice between my 3 series and one of those Miatas... they're a blast to drive.
[Sun 23:29] <Tatsujin> we have hard off, book off, house off, sports off, baby off, clothes off, jerk off, piss off etc

Yeah, BBS. Those are actually OEM wheels on the black/tan 92s. They are more or less the same as what came on the 16v GTIs, 3 series BMW, certain RX7s, etc. Like the BBS RS, but a single forged piece. They are less than 10lbs each, so I'm keeping them for as long as I can still buy good tires in 14".

RE: the Celica All Trac/GTFour, whatever its called. This is a nice car, and almost impossible to find in the US. To be honest though...its not that close to the WRC car...at all. Its not much closer to the WRC than a base level automatic Celica, unless you've gutted the interior, installed a full cage and race seats, doubled the hoursepower, and spent $80,000 on coil overs, tires, and transmission. Its a nice car, but there are reasons the WRC car cost at least five times as much money to build.

RE: MegaSquirt: a lot of people have tried very hard over the years to  make car parts sound sexual. "Buy this muffler and you'll get laid!" kind of stuff. My ECU takes the cake though. It has the most pornographic sounding name of any car part ever. The exact name is the DIYPNPMS, or Do It Yourself Plug and Play Megasquirt...and they didn't even realize this when they named it!
