A gentleman in the Neo Geo community worked to convert Ironclad from CD to MVS when bootlegs of his work popped up for sale he fought it by making more copies and offering it cheaper than the bootleggers , unfortunately at cost to himself I believe .

 Not saying its a solution that works here (especially on CD formats) but maybe putting up a dedicated FAQ on the Facts of the situation and how individuals can make their own copies to play at home would stop the money from flowing into the wrong pockets.

Either way I mention this past case as an example that no solution will be easy or over night.

when I was a Kid mine shipped with the heavier larger stamp one, it has always felt more solid.
I too always just assumed it was them making it cheaper over the years. With all the different PCE pads thou I can never tell which of those is a better quality or I prefer.

i can't imagine myself in the 90s ever thinking this hobby would become this crazy with bootlegs being remade using the very guides that were created to protect us or items like this Castlevainia box that is just a custom bootleg item sold as a Limited collectible. its nuts that Bootlegs can now be called Limited Editions. I've always loved my Famicom Bootlegs but part of that is the price tag of 1-3 bucks and its campiness. And btw I'm one of the original suckers that sadly bought the old sapphire fake years ago.

Slabbed Games and comics are a resellers niche that will eventually burst like the other collector bubbles of the past. Im starting to see comics that are slabbed drop in price or be sold "accepting best offers" due to the fact that these "collectors" were only there for the money and now need to cash in on their junk bonds, as long as we all don't show them interest or even offer them low prices when we see them at Cons or other markets we can form a united wave that will eventually wear them down. its not gonna be over night thou.
 Unfortunately this hobby is now a full blown market and we see the over inflated prices even at swap-meets. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of brick and mortar shops that don't over charge, but get picked clean by resellers.

Holy crap, this topic hasn't died yet? I thought it would have been gone by about 2 years ago.

There were plenty of good games released for the wii.Mostly first parties game with some good ones by third parties.Beside collecting for it can be dirt cheap,unlike retro consoles as of late.Some even will soft-mod the wii for emulation putting the NES,Genesis,SNES and even the TG16 on it.Beside netflik and the shop channel are up still.

I totally agree, i love all the cheap as dirt shooter collections and the soft Mod lets me play tons of Beats of Rage home-brews. The emulators are also good to let the little ones in your house try retro gaming without getting hands on the real consoles. Mame emulation is a bonus too

"Amazing" is not the word I would use. All of these tactics were really standard for game/anime promotion at the time. If play the game "Game Developer Story" you have most of these same things as options for promotion.

You right it was pretty standard, i always get excited and jealous to see the fanfare and events they held in Japan for gaming back in the day like the Hudson soft Famicom Tourneys and mobile gaming trailers. I just feel like i missed out being in the US back then.

My uncle was a bigshot at NEC (one of thousands probably) and when he would come back from japan i would occasionally get a Valis game or Populous w/ converter. it only stoked the flames.

So I axed my network manager about skipping the ads. He said we get paid less if someone chooses to skip after 5 seconds or whatever it is.  My network guy is reputable.

Oh, you definitely will enjoy the US dub of Cosmic Fantasy 2. It is really nice done.

I know folks complain about the encounter rate in old games, but you already played the Japanese version so you know what you are getting in to.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty stoked to try it out.  I know a lot of people aren't fond of the way Working Designs sometimes took liberties with their translations, but I always felt like they really did a good job for the resources they had and for the time period.

I did open it up, by the way, but I have to ask:  Is the CD label supposed to look like it was printed at 20dpi and have the characters from Cosmic Fantasy 1 on it?  I'm half-worried I bought a reproduction or something...

EDIT:  An hour in and already people are talking about hemheroids, setting up local chapters of AA, and referencing Gilligan's Island...  Yep, it's a Working Designs translation alright!

Also, it's pretty cool that you can use the same save file between both the English and Japanese versions of the game.  Neat!

PC-FX is one that people should test drive extensively via emulation before jumping in.  Its slim library definitely ain't for everyone, so far too often people end up disappointed and reselling soon after buying.

That's probably what happened with this seller, so I guess it worked out nicely for me.

What is that Saturn game?  Judging by the artwork it is probably an SNK game?  Also, what is that Treasure Box?  Last Battle?

the saturn game is "Crows" its a manga and ova anime from japan the book series is still running now its called "Worst" its the game is done in a SD style art and plays like river city ransom or final fight its really funn and RARE as hell people want 160 to 200 for it.
I got it for 120 i think.

the Treasure box is Hokuto no ken also known as Fist if the Northstar and yes there was a genisis port of one hokuto game that was grossly changed and called Last Battle in USA. I waited 2yrs for that box and game ...both are amazing

Record of Agrest war is great i had the mouse pad out for a couple days on a self then my wife saw it and made fun o me so its all back in the box except the game.

Trons right cave is looking to do some US releases but i think deathsmiles is a test like Mushi 1.5 was which ever sells better they will either go region free from now on or import to US....Im for region free

I adore the oldschool 8-bit and 16-bit shooters, but I also love a good deal of bullet hell shooters.   Mostly the Cave game ones and Ikaruka.  I don't understand why people call games like DoDonpach Daioujo or Ikaruga as having a gimmic?  I see it as different gameplay.  It makes it more challenging and engaging than just dodging/shooting.  Games like Giga Wing and Mars Matrix on the other hand are way to easy with the way the shields are used.  I understand people  being sick of bullet hell games since that seems to be the rave these days, but if that's the case than pick up Trizeal. Great game! 

As for the news of EspGaluda II it's nice to be able to play some more "true" shooters on the 360.  Thanks for the news Digi.k

  The different scoring systems/play mechanics that some games have tried... I am ALL FOR experimentation and variety, I just wish that they always included an "old skool" mode for curmudgeons like ourselves. I agree that it is too easy to throw out "gimmick" as a cheap insult

I haven't played Trizeal, but I should get it for Dreamcast. I fear that it will be uber-expensive. Please tell me I am mistaken.

Nothing ever gonna beat Ol skool thats why we love it but these games are not " gimmicky " the each have a style of play and Ikaruga is a stand alone style original is not gimmick. Was the Holy Ys Book 1 an 2 Gimmicky when we all ran headfirst in to our first enemy to kill them instead of swinging a sword? cameras on consoles is a gimmick not a specific or  altered style of gameplay. I love my old school SHUMPS to death but i love the rush i get off dodging a bullet frenzy with out bombs its fun to push ur self like playing Gears o war 2 horde mode on nightmare difficulty by yo self (in the dark).



Also ive learned all the dreamcast shooters are easier to find or Download of PS2 so much for dreamcast being the "shooter" console( I for one was shocked but happy to save dough)

 Ill give yah the bowdown in the wirless addon which never drops in price (overpriced) and that gamestop employees buy up the trade in ones for there friends in a blink o the eye (was told this at 3 gamestops)

Jus so u  know Nectarsis i have a ps2 modded and love it . I was a sonyfanboy . Jus wish sony had kept all those promises about the Hard drive we never got and the PS2 being my new home computer . I was hurt after the Promises never panned out (these were said mid ps2 life not pre release propaganda )
