Is there a PCE emulator that will you let you strip away layers so you can get a clean screen cap of the backgrounds?

I decided to go ahead and make the Cityscapes post. Starting with the first thing I could find while searching. City Hunter Oedo 808

From AliExpress. Ordered back in early October. Only received it now.

I had to trim the edges of the PCB's for it to fit in my boot MV-1C board. It works fine now, though.

Shadow od Destiny is a really interesting game that no one ever talks about.

New Sega Master System pickups! This was a trade with an awesome Sega16 forum member in the UK who was able to find me Sonic 1, Spider-Man, and Strider all complete and in awesome shape!

I had been wanting all of these for awhile, and since the US and UK versions are exactly the same I saw no reason not to just get them from there instead of trying to find them here.  Happy to finally have them in my library, Sonic especially seems like it will be neat to play/compare :)
Nice, i've been thinking about trying to import some SMS games from the UK since the pound has dropped compared to the dollar.

Quote from: elmer on 09/15/2016, 02:09 AMIt's been a long time since I updated this thread, but I'm glad to say that I'm finally playtesting Xanadu 2 and finally getting to see and enjoy the differences between Xanadu 1 and Xanadu 2.

Of course, it's also and opportunity to help find and fix the (hopefully few) bugs in my translation coding, and in SamIAm's actual translation.

So far, the game is beautiful ... but it's pointing out a few areas that I put-off polishing, or even really looking at too deeply

Xanadu 1 is a massively-complex game, but it runs through a fairly straight-forward game engine.

In Xanadu 2, Falcom took the opportunity to refine and tweak a whole bunch of things.

That makes the game look and play a lot more "polished" than Xanadu 1 ... but it also means that there are a lot more "edge" cases and one-time-use code that needs to be fixed.

When playing yesterday, I found the first "big" screw-up in the translation.

I was playing, and moved to a different area and suddenly this text box popped-up that was full of garbage characters.

IMG

Well, after hours of tracking down, it turned out to be the "You've played for an hour, now take a break." message.

But that message is a part of the Game Code overlay ... and that overlay is full, so there's no room left to fix things.

What followed is the entire day spent reorganizing memory and testing the results in order to free up enough space to put in the proper message in the proper place.

While I was at it, it annoyed me that that message was displayed in white (actor speech color) text instead of cyan (game narration color) text, and so I tried to fix that at the same time.

Here's the result ...

IMG

Now ... I really need to get rid of that annoying half-space before the flashing cursor ... but perhaps I can put that off for another few days.

Tomorrow it's back to playing the game again!
Today I learned my mom has something in common with Japanese game developers. I never listened to her and took breaks, and I sure as hell am not putting this game down when I get my dirty paws on it.

Quote from: NightWolve on 08/22/2016, 11:09 PMNice! I've been waiting for the next sale to grab on it on Steam myself. Don't ever see myself getting a PS4 (but I'll have to borrow one some time).
Thanks! I was actually pretty shocked to see it on the shelf; normally small-run games (at least I assume it is) don't show up for sale in the middle of a tourist area. After talking to a few folks in chat, I went back the next day and it was sitting in the window so I snatched it up. Happy with my inaugural PS4 purchase!
Well, the $9.99 sale I was waiting for came around, but from GOG, not Steam, so I finally bought it!

Get ready for justice, shovel justice!! :)

For Windows PC, it's a 150 MB DirectX game that works fine so far with my USB game pad and Windows 7 64-bit system. It just needed to upgrade the DirectX and VC++ runtimes though.
I bought it on sale from GoG awhile back, it's such a good game. I always try purchase DRM free whenever possible.  They have some other 8bit retro style game called Oniken onsale for $1.50 at the moment.

I have one of these that I picked up at a Garage Sale for $5. I had to fix the wires leading to the speakers also. Mine is actually in pretty good shape with the stand and remote. Only a little scuff on the front. It is actually in my storage building. I already have a 27" CRT and so I don't really have room for it.

1CC'd Gate of Thunder. Felt pretty good, though the game on the whole is very easy - at least on Normal difficulty. Devil is pretty chaotic; I don't know if I have the patience for it.

This game is good. Not Thunder Force III "easy but excellent" good, but close. It sometimes is a little self-indulgent showing off its graphics at the expense of slow, uneventful sections where you stand still (sometimes without having to shoot anything!). Bosses look great but have pretty pitiful attack patterns (usually 1, sometimes 2 easy-to-dodge salvos). All in all though it's a very likable game.
I can get to the 3rd boss without dieing and then I use up most of my lives on him.  Any advice?

Quote from: EvilEvoIX on 12/09/2015, 12:58 AMSome common stuff I just picked up at a flea market outside of Atlantic City.  Always want a SNES Mini, I know it's inferior to the original units but why not it was super cheap and works fine.  FFIX is four discs so I'll take a while to get through that.

IMG
Supposedly an RGB modded Mini is superior to the all but the 1-Chip version of the regular model.

Quote from: Bloufo on 10/06/2015, 11:16 AMThe home button doesn't always work. That's on me, though. When I changed the battery (the replacement just won't fit all that comfortably seeing as that new battery is a little longer and thicker) I reckon I must have inadvertently caused some issue in there.

No biggie, though. In any case, the unit has touch-screen capabilities, so in most instances I'm able to exit to "home" via that touch-screen.

IMG
Is it worth it to get one of these vs. some new fangled JXD device?  I have always followed these things, the GP2X Wiz, the Canoo, Pandora, GCW Zero etc.. but never got any of them.  I'd like to one day when the perfect device comes out.  The 3DS and Vita might be an option now too.
I think that the Vita has recently been fully opened up for homebrew and not just by exploiting the PSP side. I don't have one myself so I haven't looked into it in detail.

Stadler was only briefly in his game segment and the ending. Maybe that's what we should have done here is just confine him to the end somehow because the ending worked pretty well.

Well I'm a little late to this thread but....

Everything in life is associated with risks, getting on the road to go to work increases your chance of getting hit by a car. It's a calculated decision, the odds of you getting killed on the road are slim enough that you(most of you anyways) continue to do it.  There really is no other option besides getting  vaccinated. Without vaccinations the risk of deadly/crippling disease would be so much higher than the potential for side effects of the shot itself.

My son started to show signs of tourrets syndrome at the age of 10. This was not caused by a vaccine. It sucks but sometimes things just happen, that is part of life.

Polio Pics for emphasis:
