@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Also picked up a few PSP games. I think I might have the Lunar game for PSP but am not 100% sure. All three games are complete with booklet and finding comete PSPgames in a Game stop is a real pain even when the system still had games being released.

With their buy two get one free used games the Lunar came out free so it was worth the gamble that I might already have it.

This was a great find.

And it isn't gamestop new  it is actually still sealed. I think I picked this up and put it back down a few times but ultimately knew I had to have it.

That cosmic smash game looked so sweet from youtube videos I checked out m.gave it 30 minutes and it is going to be such a fun game to try and break high scores. I saw a namoi copy on ebay for around $80 free shipping. Might pick it up. Dont have a namoi but it is something I thought of collecting off and on

My saturn us library keeps growing. Once I get the us list nailed ill get a few japan games. The only uk game id want is deep fear. But man it is pricy. And that japan copy is usually a dollar.

Here is that metal slug I mentioned from ebay

IMG

I now have 2, X, 3, 4

4 is the only complete kit but it is also the only one not done by the original metal slug team from the neo geo mvs days to my knowledge.

Just need 1 & 5 for my mvs set.

Picked up an anthology collection for the Wii at $5 a few weeks back as well.

$320 free shipping. Expensive

Got it for $1. Wasn't expecting the box. I have the game and the box CE (new unopened)

Want to try and get some of the xbox face plates from some of the games and more limited release ones. I thibk they might look cool put in a shadow box of some sort and displayed on a wall.

Quote from: guest on 10/20/2014, 01:36 PMI was cleaning this weekend and dropped some stuff off at the thrift to donate so I stuck my head inside to if there was anything good.  I found a couple things worth my time.

IMG

Q-Ko-Chan Volume 1 Hardbound with slipcase
NBA Jam TE CIB [GEN]
Machine Hunter [PS1]
Quest 64 [N64]
Corvette [PS2]
Naki Sega Genesis Controller
Logitech Original Xbox Controller

A bunch of misc stuff here.  The NBA Jam cart took some major cleaning to get going but it is working now.  All the disc games are like scratch free too, it's pretty awesome.  The Naki controller is comfortable but the d-pad feels a bit meh, the up was a bit picky.  There were other Genesis titles there too but all were missing their manuals and I had them already so I passed on them, if they're available next week I might grab them at half price.

IMG

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Books
Dungeon Master Guide (Revised)
Player's Handbook (6th Printing)
I saw these near the manga and remembered a friend of mine saying older D&D books are worth some money so I figured I would gamble on them.  I already handed them off to my friend who knows a lot about this kind of stuff to see if I can get any cash out of it.

Most everything was 50% off so my total was $16.56  :P
I have thought of picking up pld D&D books just for the cover art and what not

That is a good estimate .......

Mind you with that amount you can get a CMVS, controller, and maybe 10 good games.  Alot of the MVS games can be had for 20-30 dollars ...

Hell I just bought Metal Slug 4 (compelte kit) off ebay for $45.  Guy had a huge stock of them and still has a few.  Of course I'll need to crack open that case and verify the chip set is not a bootleg.  If it is I'll demand my money back.......

If it is a legit copy then I'll just be missing Metal Slug 1 & 5 ......

as for complete kit games this will be my 3rd or 4th ...........I sometimes get tempted to go for only complete kit games but don't feel like dishing out the usual $120-$200 per game.........but man that would look sexy on a shelf....all my MVS games as full kits......although maybe a little bland...
I saw that listing for metal slug too. My wife has clamped the purse strings since Christmas is coming though :(

.... As for MVS kits being sexy on a shelf... :o ??? I find cardboard boxes rather boring.

Off-Topic / Halloween Movie List
10/02/2014, 11:54 AM
Okay so a friend and I are going to horror out every weekend of October.  His older son's (10 and 6) will also be watching the movies with us.  Granted we don't expect the youngest to watch much if any of the movies.  The older son I know will try and stick with it, because he wants to be seen as a equal and emulate his father already.

So here are the weekends:

EXAMPLE:

Oct 4, 5
Gremlins 1 & 2
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Jason
Pet cemetery

Oct 11, 12
Simpson's Halloween 3, 4, 6, 7
Deadspace 1-3
Nightmare Before Christmas
Corpse Bride

Oct 18, 19
Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
Evil Dead remake
Bubba Ho-tep
The Woods
Man with the Screaming Brain
My Name Is Bruce
Drag Me to Hell

Oct 25, 26
Night of the Dead (Remake)
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Night of the Living Dead 1 -3 (the rest sucked after the 3rd IMO)
Zombie

Let's make this fun!

Feel free to suggest good movies, TV series/special (like Simpson's Halloween Specials).  We are not into torture porn like Saw 2 and up.

Also feel free to suggest good video games to play during the month of October ............

If you happen to know of any good halloween treats to eat that go well with movie/gaming that would be fun.

Like using food dye to turn nacho cheese redish and having bloody nachs (just making it up)

Or caramel popcorn! .....

Quote from: SamIAm on 10/01/2014, 06:23 AMI actually played the Japanese version of Magic Knight Rayearth about a month ago. I'm stating the obvious, I'm sure, but not only was that stuff not in there; there was nothing remotely approaching that tone at all in the whole game. That's what really bothers me about those jokes.

I have to admit, when the village guards in Popful Mail talked like the cops in Dragnet, it made me laugh. But as a whole, Popful Mail has that sort of goofy tone in the original, too, and I think Working Designs captured that goofiness very well. There are some jokes that you would think weren't in the original that actually were, too.

Also, I've been working on Anearth Fantasy Stories a lot recently, and I totally get how mundane some of the routine NPC townspeople lines can get in an RPG. In a typical town-dungeon game, basically everyone in a town gives a one-sentence complaint about what the monster in the next dungeon is doing to screw everything up. There's a lot of temptation to rephrase things, and it's a small step from there to embellishing and just writing whatever.
So, the key to an engaging localization would be better NPC banter, but without resorting to potty humor.

I know it would be difficult*, but I always thought that NPC chatter would be an excellent opportunity to fill in the backstory of a character or further enmesh the player in the culture/world of the game.

NPC's should provide interesting details to further flesh out the world—some of which might have to be created by the translator (if source material is scant)...it could be lots of fun (adding depth to story), and it doesn't have to be directly related to the main plot points.

* Purists would cry foul, since creative liberties would be taken to develop backstories culture/history more fully.

Something Something Darkside.......

Well I found myself at another flea market and its been awhile since I posted any thing new here so here we go! 😆

I walked into this one sellers shop. He had alot of interesting things. Wanted to be called "Smoking Joe" and was very proud of his wears. Had a poster sized framed picture of him and Jay Leno where he claimed to have sold him a large collection of Poursh car collectables. I have doubts but then again who knows. I did find it odd his prize picture was printed at such an exagerated level it was grany and pixelated to a point that it was distracting.

Some of the things he had that draw my eye like a Killer Clowns  from Outtetspace latex maskes. And really good ones. A he man Canadian only toy that I never had seen or knew about of some sort of Malboga looking purple dragon ish thing. Chrome Bender from Futurama.

IMGIMGIMGIMGIMG

IMG  Natzi Spider-Man!

IMG

IMG  Bit my shiny metal 90% Chrome Ass.

IMG

IMG  only $5,000.00!

IMG  $400 for the complete clean one $170 for the other. Star Wars Clone troop carrier.

IMG ebay is cheaper ....way way cheaper.

But for me most of all was a Gremlins Striped figure. He had a loose vintage possable one. Ruby eyed and cool. Wanted $300 😣  guy must ne mad as there is a loose one on ebay for $40 buy it now. Even pointed it out but he was firm. Ill probably biy the $40 one later in the week.

Except that wasn't the only Strip figure he had. No he also had one in a yellow shirt that read "I'm a Toys R Us Kid."  That one I really liked. Claimed it was "Rare" and recalled shorty due to parents not likeing it being sold as a source of devil worshiping.

IMG

Get this.  This gem goes for $600 in his eyes. Ihave been uunable to find anything to substantiate this figures pedigree but then again there isn't much to go one most Gremlins figures that I can find that isn't the more recent NECCA stuff.

This mind you was the first seller. Interesting collection but insain pricing. He had other things. Some LARGE gas powered radio controled plains. Sorry no pics and a large Micky Mouse that he got from some sort of clothing store for Disney. Pretty cool heavy metal and resin three foot full body figure.

But for me I was off to see what else was there.

Ran into a regular toy dealer. He has more things of note. A Gentle Giant Jumbo Kenner Alien,  Action GI Joe Helicopter figure, the jumbo Kajian Knife Head figure and the 8-bit retro Prediture figure from NECCA.

But I was drawn more to the odd ball babby Skelitor figure. So much so that he is holding on to it for me to but next month.

IMGIMG

I ended up buying a few Sega Saturn games and a repro of the early bird display for the vintage Starwars Kenner figures and two game cube games. and got off "cheap" at only $45 dollars spent.

I'll be sure to post my pick ups tomorrow as I didn't take pictures and my wife is asleep.

Anyone else have a weekend out in flea markets or thrift stores post. Share.

And if anyone knows more about that Toys R Us t shirt Gremlin let me know. Maybe he just stck a t shirt off a teddy bear and called it rare. But you have to admit its fun to look at lol
