@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Daaaaamn!  Square is back from the dead!!

Since it seems like Yuki (am I saying the name correctly?) will never give up the game as a CD-R. However, could anyone here possibly talk Yuki into making at least a video of the game in its completed form/entirety, and upload it to youtube?
#3
This is pretty cool.

I would gladly pitch in if someone was stsrting a kickstarter.com budget to make an arcade card game. I have an arcade card, and have been dying to see some one make a new ACD game to utilize a format that died shortly after it was born. I say go for it!!

Wow, i thought this project was never going to finish, and had given up hope. I remember talking to Squaresoft74 when the PSP version came out, and asking him since the PSP version had english acting, and text, was it now possible to rip the tracks from the PSP, and font, etc., to translate the actual PCE SCD original disc. I don't remember the actual technical terminology he used to explain why it wasn't possible, but it in deed was the latter according to Square. Now look, a dedicated team from all various resources, and different parts of the world, have made it happen.

Thank you all SO very much for this awesome translation!!!! It is incredible!   = )

Wow! Both demo's were great, but the Supergrafx one was unreal!

Wasn't there a "Thunderforce Octology" in development? Was curious about this one, but haven't heard much lately on it. Any news?

Owned it when it first came out. Yes-incredible game by Compile. I believe after that title, my brother and i bought anything made by them because of that game.

The NGPC was too short lived, unfortunately, for developers to really push the system in terms of graphics, and most of the titles just did not appeal to me, and the sound left something to be desired after years of being spoiled by what was the mighty NEO GEO mvs. I got spoiled having one hooked up to a kick ass sound system, and 19"( that was big for 1990 standards), and then going to that. Was a solid little poece of hardware, and the best clicky 8 way joystick on any system to this day, but i was just let down, and the sadness of knowing SNK was sinking fast at that time, made it clear there was no hope for the machine and developers to mature.

I have the PSP with CFW, but looking for something a little lighter and just as decent. The GP32 wiz Caanoo looks pretty decent. Was going to may e get the Dingoo A380, but have read too many negative things about support, and buggy emulators.

Anyone have the Caanoo?

Quote from: Tatsujin on 07/16/2012, 07:17 PMThe only prob. I had with the GBA was its noisy low-fi sound.
Why in the hell, did they use such a crappy sound chip, when everything else was so high-end?
That was the first thing i noticed as well. Bing! Great graphics on startup GBA splash screen, coupled with what sounded like a busted sega genesis Z-80.
#12
I too had wondered if it was a hoax, but at the same time was interested in seeing the thing released, as wellllll as wondering why release it when there are so many other portables that emulate their games as well as other systems on one console. Seems like a waste, but the tech junkie in me would like to own a piece of new SNK hardware. I bought the NEO GEO pocket, and that was a waste, but i still have it in my collection.
#13
Ok, i know we can emulate the neo geo systems on our psp's, DS's, and a slew of other asian market handhelds can emlulate as well, but...... It is the 3rd quarter of this year, and the X was supposed to be released 2nd quarter.

Whats the latest on this thing? The website has no new information.

http://nippotopia.wordpress.com/2010/01/07/extreme-rare-pc-engine-cd-rom-akiyamajin-hihou-indo-no-honoo-shishu-seyo-e-3-200/

This was the other one that i kept seeing once in a blue moon. I just did a google search and i found this site i have never seen before. Has any of you ever obtained a copy of this? I am shocked to see this site as recent as January 2010. I still need to pick up that berzerk homebrew, mysterious song as well. I have implode, and meteor blaster dx. Would be awesome to see some homebrew arcade card games take full advantage of that medium. If i were rich beyond imagination, i would hire chris covell full time, and let him choose his team of developers, and make killer new homebrew arcade card games for our awesome little white box. Did he ever give a release date for the cd version of Tonguemans Logic?
#15
Correct..... All i wanted was a copy. I wanted it because i wanted to play it and beat it, as well as tell the story of how i had one of the worlds rarest unreleased games, for the worlds most underappreciated gaming system. I wanted it to be something i could share with my close friends of the community as well. The owner is not stupid, and realizes her investment would depreciate under that umbrella, and i respect her diligence, regardless of how frustrating it is. There are several other ultra rare pc engine titles as well i would love to obtain an iso image of for my collection, but life has its priorities, and i am not richie rich throwing money at the ground for shits n giggles. I wish i were though, as you'd all be killing my bandwidth to get copies. Lol!

I would however settle for a detailed story of how she landed the prototype, and have it posted as a major article on this website, and any others. I think we have all wondered that scenario, and would be thankful for some insight on that.
#16
The link for the screens and the owner, was already posted in here by another user hyperlinked "here ya go". It is a geocities(god geocities is ancent!). I translated the site with a program i had back then and contacted her. It was like a big sushi-smelling middle finger in the face when i was rejected. She was polite about the rejection though, so my remarks are purely of frustrated jest, not rage filled loathing. If it is still the same exact website(which appears to be. Iunno.... It's been 8-9 years since then, and i dont have my laptop with me now to compare images, but if you translate the site, her e-mail is/was on there.

I agree, if she doesnt have it backed up, it could become a coaster, and it would be lost forever, all because she wanted to keep it for herself. Maybe she will bequeath it to me in her will, with a letter of apology. My luck, i'd have arthritis by then, and cruel fate would laugh in my face like Henry Rollins.
#17
This was like back in 2003/04, when i was heavily into the pc engine scene. For the longest time i saved the e-mail traffic, but trashed it after a while because it reminded me of how pointless the pursuit was. I was even in talks with Squaresoft 74 to round up people to pitch in, and i believe i stated i would get the cash cow going by lumping down my1,000 dollars into a paypal account created to collect funds until we reached a goal of a reasonable offer, then make our pitch to that same owner. Problem was, no body really knew each other face to face even though we were close friends of the scene, and of course there is going to be the trust issue, and who is going to take ownership/responsibility for the account/funds. It was a flash in the pan idea, wrought with obsession(understandably so), with great intentions to share with the community(well maybe make some money off it since it was rare, if we did get it, it would have cost all of us a handsome slice of our salaries, so in fairness, we woukd be in the right to charge some monetary fee to share a copy). I will be honest, i was crushed when they did not release the game. I waited and waited for a long time while it was being developed. DieHard Games used to run their ads in EGM, and had screenshots of all the awesome imports, and that was one of them. I used to call them and bug them about the release date. When they told me it was shelved i was crushed. Now i just dont care. I gave up. I will find the website that has the screenies. I do have those images saved on my laptop somewhere to this day. I look at them once in a very long blue moon. Sigh. Sniff.
#18
I contacted the owner of a website that has screenshots of the game and mAde an offer of 1,000 american dollars. I believe the sex was a female from japan, and her english was pretty bad. I had to use a translating program, and i was turned down to obtain a burnt copy. There may have been some confusion in the communication due to the software i used, but it looked pretty clear i was striking out on getting a copy. I think she is a major tease!
#19
Having played and beaten the original in the arcade back in it's hey day, as well as the Genesis versions (all 3 craptastic titles), it was nice to see this cd version, because it has cinema's, and nice soundtrack. Don't remember the Hu-Card version. Not that great of a port, but i can think of other titles worse than this for the beloved PC Engine.

Didn't know you can't be angry big bonk on the cd version. Are you sure? That just doesn't make sense.
#20
Man what a bummer about the eye surgery! I pray he is recovering well though! I really really cannot wait to play these new awesome titles. I love the homebrew scene for PC Engine, and probably always will. Don't take my venting as offense, i really do appreciate all the hard work y'all do, i just get excited to see creativity coming up on a dead, but beautiful system, and being an artist, it's hard to contain my euphoria at new fancy eye candy.
#21
I know people in these communities are working on the games from this homebrew developer, but we never see updates even on the blog anymore, and i love seeing the progress of these exciting new games. So can anyone update that site, or is there a link for all the progress that i have no clue to. I know i know.......you guys post updates here, but i think mindrec's site could use an update being that these titles are coming from them. I've got my money ready man! How are these new titles coming? Are we going to see a release on any one title soon? Ok i will shut the hell up now.

I also host this file on my PC Engine hub on Direct Connect. For membership to the hub, head on over to turbo2k .net for free account. :D

I too wondered what happened with FXer. Any news?

I now live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, but i lived in Sharon, Pennsylvania for 5 years, and in Pennsylvania all my life, and there was this really cool gu named Mark, that owned this chain of used/new, buy/sell/trade movie and game store called Splitstone Entertainment, and he started carrying old-butt turbo-grafx games. I always found some cool old-butt retro stuff there, and he always made me deals on stuff, like one time he gave me like 60 Sega C.D games because they never sold. LOL! It wasn't long after that the retro-craze kicked in, and he started selling them. you should check his site to see if he might have anything. I left in September of '05, and his selection was really small on tg-16 games then, but since then, college kids might have told their moms/dads to get rid of anyting they might have stored in their attic/closets since they left home, and brought out some special imports.

Give it a spin.  http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=86664017

I've got a hu-card demo of Time Crisis 3 for the supergrafx. It's a 128 MB game and i have been using it as an anchor for my fishing boat. didn't know anyone would be interested, so i heaved it overboard attached to a couple cable extensions for the dreamcast and some super glue. It's a little green and slimy, but i think it should still work. I'll dump the rom for ya's all.

Excellent work Bonknuts! Keep em coming! Thank you bud! =D> =D> =D>

I believe i speak for all in the scene, and even louder for the die-hards, that a heartfelt, gracious thank you is well deserved in your honor. I will support you by purchasing all titles produced by your hands in the early morning hours, and the late, late nights guzzling Sobe No Fear, and Coca-Cola Full Throttle, snacking on cold pizza, and Dorito crumbs, just so many others with your convicion to the nec scene, can enjoy more titles for our kick ass little PC Engine/Turboduo.

Keep the titles coming please, we WANT them! =D> =D> :D

God speed to all of you!!!!!!!!!!

There are pro's and cons to every format of downloading. Some people LOVE LOVE LOVE IRC, but i cannot stand it, even though i have tried and tried to like it. I LOVE torrents, as you can find stuff on there that you may not find on other peer 2 peer formats. I used to LOATHE Emule, because it was SO damn slow, and ate up so much memory(still does) but man, if you cannot find something on there, you just AIN'T looking hard enough. The stuff basicly comes to you begging!

I still LOVE Direct Connect, as it was the first format i used after Hotline Connect(still use that as well), and have been using it religiously ever since.

As far as using APE, i have never had troubles using it to convert APE files.

PC ENGINE RULES!!!!!!!!!

Part 3 WA easy compared to Part 2. I NEVEr ever beat part 2. Graphics are pretty dang kick ass in III. Loved it. Loved II, but the level of difficulty is way high. Perhaps i tooo will have to beat it with save states.

no man. I never even heard of it, but thanks for the heads up. Will have to check it out. I run a cool hub with over 500 images for the pc engine cd, and other NEC systems i have images for as well. Very devoted to the scene and it's images( at least the sharing part.....i have no time for all the details anymore because i am no longer single.), so pm me if yer interested.

Quote from: "Odonadon"I guess it all comes to personal opinion, and what type of gamer you are.  I found Shapeshifter to have good music and graphics, but horrible controls.  I gave up on it quickly and don't have a high opinion of it - poor controls in ANY video game is inexcusable.

OD

Agreed....controls were stiff and dumb as fuck,a nd the last 3 bosses were near impossible to beat............but the graphics and cinema's were awesome as hell.
#35
i LOVE LOVE LOVE this cute-em up!!!!!!!!!!! Both versions are great to have in your collection. For such an incredible hu-card game, i was very let down by the ending.

Hey guys, i have all these videos in one VOB file on my hub. I got them all from Aaron Nanto.......the dude that owns this incredible site.

My brother put them all on DVD for me, and then i ripped it, and rar'ed it.

it is kinds crazy.......the old ass clothes styles, and the stupid ass faces these kids make playing the games. TOTAL cheese. I don't think i ahve ever seen a cool ass home video. All of them must have the casting call for "total dorks apply only" sign in front of the audition room, with some amateur director that thinks he's the next Martin Scorsese, when he couldn't direct traffic if he had instructions.

Nostalgia sake is the only asset to keep you watching these goofy ass video's. Even if i had seen these back in the day i would have thought "Lamers".

I was so happy when Aaron made me these video's. I didn't even ask him to, and he sent me some free stickers, and a refrigerator magnet i believe.

I bought something other than merchandise from his website, and he sweetened the deal.

Aaron is a darn nice fella! :D

I totally, and THOROUGHLY LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

I remember EGM flipping out over gates Of Thunder,a nd YES it IS a good game, but what got me was that they said the music was heavy metal, and being a HUUUUUGE shooter freak,a nd LOVING metal alot, i was bummed out when the music wasn't slamming and pumping me up for the game. I still dig the game though, but Lords trumps it BIGTIME!!!! If Yngwie (i'm a dickhead egomaniac) Malmsteen went metal, then this would be his signature.

I prefer the Japanese Winds Of Thunder, as it has dialogue in the cinema's, and the shop keeper speak, albeit all are in Japanese, but it adds to the game. We got the voice back in the Sega C.D. botch job, but it isn't worth it really. They tampered with the music and other sound effects.

Lords cranks bigtime, and is WORTHY of a sequel!

Maybe Chris Covel(sp?) will take that challenge on?! (HINT, HINT, WINK, WINK!!!!!)

The GP32 is one HECK of a little Korean handheld. Noted mostly for it's INCREDIBLE emulation capabilities, it does have some commercial titles for it as well. There is a new version out, but some devoted followers do not like it as much as the original, but it DOES have very impressive specs. Check it out at their main website, or head over to Lik-Sang to read documentation on  them.
#39
EXCELLENT site dude! Keep up the great work!
#40
I am surprised this site is still going. I used to leech from them when i was a noob 4 years ago. I honestly don't blame them for taking donations, as the site requires maintenance, and time, and they are providing a service, but i run a hub of said images dedicated SOLELY to NEC systems, and never have dreamed of charging, because i love the machines so much, and want to share with others who also have found a new respect/love for the little white box.

Not disrespecting your decision edgeemu.com. We all pick and choose where we draw lines in life. Thank you for the free roms back in the day of my young noob NEC rom hunting. You rock! :D
#41
I am very interested. I was toying with the idea(strongly) of writing a book on NEC's past, and my personal experience/s with the system.
#42
I too was bored with Kaze Kiri. Not as great as the hype. Way too linear i thought, and could have used more characters to break up the monotony. The bosses were all different THANK GOD! Good graphics, do not a good game make, to quote and old EGM editor.
#43
The game DOES rock! I used to play the heck out it back in the early 90's, but it was kinda hard, and i kept getting stuck at this one part fo the game where it was getting annihilated. Great graphics, and music, and play control was pretty darn decent. Now that the emu magic engine has been out for years, maybe i can beat it with save states..........might be the only way since i have no time to vegetate with a tv and controller in my hands now that i have a family. Kids rock!!!!
#44
Quote from: "Keranu"Bonknuts totally busted those screenshots wrong, so we can say that those screenshots aren't from the official arcade and x6800 versions that were released. However we also can't say they are from the allegedly unreleased Super Grafx version. Since we know that those shots aren't from the arcade or x68k version and the rumors of Super Grafx Strider are so popular, it could definitely be believable that they were from an unfinished Strider Super Grafx port :) .

By the way, handy grafx, what's with your harsh words on the PCE's 8-bit processor? True it's not official 16-bit, but it doesn't need to be because of how powerful it is :D .

True that the PCE is a powerful 8-bit! Who cares about the bits when the games rock!

Monster Lair was one of, if NOT the first, games i ever played to death wheni first got my taste of the NEC world, and i played the hell out if. Being a musician myself, i apreciate many styles of talent, but metal will ALWAYS be my forte'. I could not deny the slappin' funk of the poppin bass, the ripping guitar solo's, the steel drums, and whatever else they could throw in for cool atmosphere in that game.

The game, and music have stuck with me to this day as my first memorable NEC experience. Heh....there are bigger thrashers out there than me. I have chilled out on alot of really hard stuff.

MONSTER LAIR BABY!

Buy/Sell/Trade / My Wanted PC Engine list
07/12/2006, 12:07 AM
It INDEED was i who have been searching for this game ever since the early 90's wheni wanted it So bad even way back then, when it was advertised in GAMEFAN Magazine. The release date was at one time printed, but it was short lived, become "TBA"(To Be Announced), which was frustrating, as i had called There retail store at least  3 times a week to bullshit, as well as check on the status of the games arrival in the land of the rising sun.

My price started out meager, with $200.00 for just a cdr copy, but i was a naive man, being a newb to the emu, and trading scene for the kick ass PCE, but i thought it was failry decent. I then got laughed at by many a gamer in the scene for said naivity, and upped the price to a larger sum, then eventually pitching the $1,000.00 offer for a cdr copy, with other trusted members of the NEC community tossing in their offerings as well to up the price, to go after Yuki. it never came about, since i didn't ahve the money at the time i was serious , and then i eventually went through a break up with my ex-fiance, and then going after the woman i stood up for the ex, and pursuing it to what it is now today, an engagement to be married in December of this year, and PC Cocoron's hunt, by me, has ceased for now, but still haunts me in the corners of my mind, and heart, as well as my soul.......i INDEED, would pay 1,000 dollars for a cdr copy if someone obtained it now, but as far as me obtaining it, it won't happen, my personal search has been halted for now, and i have used many search engines to find a seller in other countries, but was fruitless. For anyone wanting to get multiple searches in one fascinating multiple search engine program, look no further than Copernic Agent Basic, or the Pro version.......it DEFINITELY helps finding multiple hits and brings the results back to you.

PC Cocoron, and ANY other demo/prototype game for the PCE has my interest til the day i die, as i love that little white box!!!!!!!!!!

As far as the famicom version being like the PCE version, yes, and of course, no. the PCE version is an updated version all around of the Famicom one, but the famicom version is indeedy a fun game, and you should by all means play it with the translation patch. I think it is quirkily fun!!!!!

Yuki has been the ONLY one with the awesome pictures of this game in action, and are the ONLY pictures i ahve ever seen of this game from the title screen, to the end screen, and NOT EVEN GAMEFAN HAD these pics, or ANY other gaming mag from across the seas, or in the USA, so i KNOW Yuki is authentic. It si just a shame she rubs it in our faces. As far as i know, this person is a she. My one crazy contact(PCE) from the hub, tried to get it from her for me/us, i fear he might have scared her off with is oddity of communication skills(Scarily odd duck that boy, but i DO like him!), and she might not be interested now. he DID mention that she needed a few titles from me that i had, and MIGHT trade up, but she is HORRIBLE at english, and not even a translating program could save her.

maybe some one can get the fire going again.

I am open to helping a little bit at this time, but not sure how much since i am preparing for my wedding in December.

Talk to ya'll soon!
