No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I feel the same way, I hate dubs.  What I'm saying is that what Termis said is probably 100% spot on and all these kids who are "fans" of voice actors can't understand the language.
#2
Hopefully it's called Castlevania: 75% Off Retail Price Within the First Month because that looks like ultimate fucking franchise killing shit.
#3
No shit, there's whole culture of nerds out there who swear that anime voice acting is so great, blah blah, but really the only reason they think Japanese voice actors are so awesome is because they can't understand what the fuck they're saying.  I don't get these dumb shits that follow female voice actors around like they can actually tell them apart.
#4
LOL at you ever impregnating a woman.
#5
Part 3 is shit, they give you a great complex fighting system and then half the enemies in the fucking game are frogs or too short for you to do any combos on.
#6
That's a damn good map, nice job.  That maze was frustrating as hell, I used save states over and over to avoid fights after the first half-hour or so running around it.
#7
The homebrew emulators are basically worthless, but the VC turbo games are emulated virtually perfectly.
#8
I've heard that people make wireless SNES controllers with Wavebirds, so maybe that would work.  A SNES and TG controller are roughly the same size, maybe you could cram all the wavebird stuff inside one of those awesome RX 6 button pads.
#9
Don't forget my advice, electro!

Wow I didn't get any of that out of My Neighbor Totoro.  When did they die?

Watch Great Teacher Onizuka if you want a happy, uplifting anime.  This is totally serious, I'm not trying to be funny by recommending something dark and depressing.  GTO is one of the best anime series I've ever watched, in fact even people who normally don't like anime agree it rules.

WOW YOU SPENT A WHOLE NIGHT PLAYING THE GAME AND NOW YOU'RE QUALIFIED TO SAY EVERY OTHER REVIEW THAT GIVES IT A LOW SCORE IS DOG SHIT!  AWESOME DUDE!

Yeah I really liked this game, but the non-linear thing really hurt it for me since I don't read any JApanese and basically I was just running around with no idea of what I was supposed to do.  It seemed awesome though, I loved the mix of digital comic in there also, and the graphics were actually really nice.

I guess if you can stomach the art Ane-San could possibly grow on you, but the incredibly limited amount of moves is what really pissed me off about the game.  Maybe the whole room collecting stuff slightly makes up for the lack of moves, I didn't really mess around with that much.
#14
I think you were about 3 stars too generous in your Ane-San review, that game is one of the worst PCE titles in existence.  The Atari 2600 port of Double Dragon had more moves and variety, and that's not even touching on the horrendously ugly graphics.  I can't believe an artist that bad actually got some professional work.
#15
I REMOVED THE GAME BUT NOT BECAUSE YOU GUYS SAID TOO1!!!  ONLY BECAUSE MICHAEL SAID SO!!!!  lol.
#16
^^ You got schooled man, give it up.  Anybody can tell that DBZ on PCE is not a port of any arcade game.  By your logic I could say that TMNT on Gameboy was a port of the arcade game.

Keranu you might like it because everyone else hates it, but it's too bland to have any JJ & Jeff value as a bad game, it's just a really bad game,  I think most people who play it will have mine and Bonknuts's reaction.  The main problem is that the main character moves ultra slow, then couple that with sparse enemies, boring level layouts, and some of the worst bosses ever (with patterns that would be simple for a first gen NES game).  I can handle a slow main character if the game throws lots of stuff at you like Castlevania or Legendary Axe (and the level layouts are creative and interesting), but when the levels are devoid of any challenge and extremely boring, it makes for a really lame experience.

Nat if you pick it up, wait until you can find a good deal.  I got mine from Gamengai.com for a really good price, $70 (I also picked up an ultra cheap Harmful Park for PSX for only $75, couldn't believe my luck on that one).  He has some amazing prices, I try to check his site once or twice a month.

Fausette Amour-  Fucking terrible.  Slow as shit, retarded bosses, boring cut scenes, and all the challenge of a Sesame Street game.  Fuck Naxat.  I need to stop wasting money on this kind of crap.  The graphics are decent, that's the only positive thing I have to say about this heap of shit.

Might & Magic III- Good, but not as good as I remember it.  I swear to god the game only recognizes 50% of your controller inputs, and the other 50% of the time it either ignores you completely or doubles whatever you push.  The menu cursors also move excruciatingly slow so it takes for fucking EVER to manage your inventory.  Moving around isn't so bad, but the half-second delay between your button press and actually moving (that's when the game decides it's going to acknowledge that you pushed a button) gets irritating after a while, especially when compared to something like Eye of the Beholder on Sega CD which moves ultra fast and has better graphics.  The adventure itself is still great and underneath the technical problems it's a kickass RPG, but honestly all the annoyances compound until it's just not much fun to play.  Plus it takes up your entire fucking internal memory to play, so you better have a Tennoke Bank.

I like the PCFX version better now, back then I guess I thought the PSX version looked better.  What can I say, I'm inconsistent at best.

Yeah totally my nigga, I need another one bad.  I'll definitely include that Asuka 120% as part of the deal so I can get rid of it.

At one point I had planned on doing a comparison page on the two versions, but I didn't have any way of getting PCFX screen shots back then.  I do remember one annoying difference is that the PS version does something weird with the map, like you have to hit a button to show it, where on the PCFX version it's always shown in the bottom corner (I don't remember exactly, but it was something like that).  The graphics were also worse on the Playstation because they just texture mapped some blocky polygons for the floor and walls instead of each frame having a nice hand drawn look.

The art is great, it's one of my favorite things about the game.  I love the western influence and the serious tone, it fits the dungeon crawler genre perfectly.  I need to play through it again but all I have is the PSX version which isn't as good, I sold my PC-FX a while back which was kind of a mistake, I really miss a few of the games like Boundary Gate.

I love this game.  It's fairly straight forward, although you'll have to do a lot of wandering around the first town before you can get all the way through it to the really cool stuff.  I wrote a review for it years ago that has some pointers I think, it's here-

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/review/R43115.html

Stick with it until you beat the first town, after that it's extremely linear and easy to figure out.
#24
Yeah anything in particular you're looking for?  How much do these usually sell for?
#25
The only system worse than the Jaguar is the Virtual Boy, and that's only because the VB makes you sick- the actual VB library is way better than the Jaguar library.  Hell, the CDI had a better library.
#26
It's a real screen shot, there are a quite a few funny parts making fun of message board nerds since the boss is an internet nerd lizard who collects toys and types on message boards all day.  That game had excellent writing.
#27
I apologize, I forgot all you guys had PHDs in physics and astronomy, my bad.  I always forget that people posting on message boards know everything about everything.
#28
It bothers me because GUYJIN was the one who said "every sci-fi you've ever loved is wrong", not the fucking author of the article.
#29
Why don't you guys try arguing with HIM instead of posting here if you think he's such a fucking moron?
#30
Wild Arms 4 really strayed quite a bit from the Western Theme of the first 3, there's barely enough "western" stuff there to call it a western game by a long shot.  I absolutely loved the game, but it really doesn't have anything western in it.  I know part 5 and Alter Code F (since it's a remake of the first one) have the western theme again like the first 3, part 4 was just an oddball in the series (even though it's my favorite one).
#31
I think his point is that war ships won't have windows, which they wouldn't.  Great site.
#32
Western RPGs are awesome, as much as I love Final Fantasy I think I prefer western style RPGs.  We got Might & Magic III and Order of the Griffon though, those two rock super hard (not counting Dungeon Master since they fucked it up so badly).  I wish someone would have ported Eye of the Beholder II or any number of computer RPGs to the Duo instead of stuff like Shadow of the Beast & Loom (even though I like both of those).
#33
I don't get how anyone who plays video games can NOT be clear on what a console RPG is, it's pretty obvious that there are straight console RPGs (like Cosmic Fantasy, Dragon Slayer, etc), action-RPGs (Ys, Neutopia II, Blood Gear, Exile), and action games with some light rpg elements (like Cadash).
#34
The first Harvest Moon was a great game, all the others sucks shit.  Love the SNES version though.

I agree with Keranu that Quackshot is fucking AWESOME, it was a tough choice for me between Castle of Illusion and Quackshot.  I went with with Castle just because I played it first when I was a kid, Quackshot I didn't beat until a few years ago.
#36
You guys should all just do Netflix, I haven't wasted money on a DVD or Blu-ray in ages (blu-rays I've never bought, period).  I don't know why people continue to buy movies when there's netflix (except for seasons or box sets, I can totally understand why people would still buy them).  Blu-rays are fucking expensive, I don't think I would ever buy one brand new, the only one I own is The Simpsons Movie and I got that one for super cheap off some guy.
#37
Because all-girl fighters suck shit.
#38
^^ We get it dude, you're a huge pirate, you don't have to remind everyone every 2 seconds.
#39
Jesus, Arcana Heart?  No wonder you guys are so pessimistic, you have awful taste in fighting games.
#40
Yeah but I've watched older movies like Bullit and Unforgiven and they looked way, way better than a DVD, especially Bullit.  Just watched Basic Instinct too and it looked really good, so old movies can look just as awesome as the newer ones on blu-ray.

The SNES got the Magical Quests and Mickey Mania (also inferior to the Genesis version like every Disney game on the SNES), but no Castle of Illusion.
#42
You guys realize SFIV isn't coming out until sometime this summer right?  So they're probably going to, I don't know, improve the gameplay and tighten things up a bit between now and then.  That's just a wacky theory I have though, I could be wrong!
#43
This is good news, now studios can focus on one format and get all the classics out on Blu-ray like Alien/Aliens and the Indiana Jones trilogy.  I have a hard time watching regular DVDs now since I've been spoiled by blu-ray, even the best DVD transfers look like shit compared to blu-ray.
#44
^^ Your sig is hilarious, who said that?  Reminds me of this ultra dumb-shit on the Shining Force Central boards whose sig says "LEGALIZE FREEDOM!" (also his username).  What the fuck does that even mean?  I love when people are trying to be profound or serious or something in their sigs and it just comes off as retarded.

That's pretty lame, don't these people do any research beyond their own memories?  I mean fuck, a quick wikipedia search would have told them the Playstation wasn't the first CD system.
#48
Have you played the arcade version of Ninja Warriors?  Fucking awful game.  The SNES version is great though.

Ripping of SNL, pretty sad.  What's next, a low budget "Dick in a box" skit?
