[PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Image Fight 2...not THAT hard.]

I just got this in the mail today having contmeplated dropping the cash on it for years. I played a CD-R of it and immediately thought it was ridiculously too hard. Well, since then I've gotten heavily into Cave/manic arcade shooters and when I sat down to play it over lunch today I thought that, while insanely hard, it's totally "do-able" with some practice [as is everything, I realize].

I mean, don't get me wrong. I haven't made it past level freakin' ONE yet. But I've only played it for one sitting. Its kind of like Tatsujin in so much as it requires memorization and a heaping abundance of patience. [god bless old school Irem] But the games gfx and production values are awesome! I kind of dip in and out of my PCE fanboy'ism and move between my retro consoles and my arcade games. But my PC Engine fever is in full-effect right now and I am loving it.

Point of the post is if you are frightened by Image Fight 2, don't be. It's just one of those games you have to stick with if you want to be any good at it. Like Ibara and so many other shooters out there.

I love both. I think Spirit has better gfx in some areas and not as good in others. I think the eggs look better in Spirit than Saber for some reason. I put them at about equal honestly. They are both must-haves.

The entire soundtrack in Bloody Wolf is great. Very arcade-ish.

I have the Bloody Wolf arcade board as well, and I totally prefer the music on the TG16 version. Same tunes, but the TG version is just better. Its an amazing port.

I hear you pixeljunkie.  I ended up getting that through trades.  I kept trying to FORCE myself to really like it. I just could not do it.  I liked some of the games, but the whole thing did not appeal to me.  I think I had that jag setup out on the big tv 3 times the entire time I had it.  That's when I decided that it had to go.  I kept finding myself playing Atari Lynx and TG-16 more than that. 

Now that I got a PC Engine Duo-r coming I'm sure all I will play is PC Engine stuff for a long time!    I'm pretty sure that I won't have to 'force myself to like' the pc engine games and cd based games. 

What Arcade cabs do you have?  I'm going to be building one soon.  I'm thinking of a cocktail version.  Not really sure yet. 

Yeah, and honestly...I really didn't plan on winning that auction. But it happened. whaddayagonnado? Its a nice collection. Close to what I had in college [sans boxes for everything plus some rarer title like Towers 2] and I had been wanting to re-acquire it after selling it years ago. But, my heart is in PCE stuff. I have a region modded Duo-R that I plan on having buried with me. hehe

I have 2 japanese candy cabinets. Konami Windy and a Neo Candy 29. And a dedicated Galaga. You going the MAME route? I almost did that too. I still have a closet full of supplies.

I bought one a few months ago, fun system. It gets expensive buying on ebay though, there is this member sweetstuff4u that buys every f'ing jag game that is rare and jacks up the prices for everyone else. He seems to be laying low right now, but he'll be back. Goatari has good deals, but his shipping can be expensive. I recently bought a catbox, damn that thing was expensive.

yeah, thats the dude I was bidding against....frustrated cuz I THINK I paid too much....but Jag stuff seems to have gotten more expensive since I last paid attention [6 or 7 years ago]

Oh well...I'm getting EVERYTHING in one fail swoop....so, thats kinda' cool...I guess.

I think you'd have better luck on Ebay. Its not going to be an even trade for Sylphia though. I think you'll get in the neighborhood of $80 [give or take] for Steam Hearts, Sylphia will cost you quite a bit more than that. But it is worth it, compared to Steam Hearts.
